Governing body member engaged... Again!
by OneDayillBeFree injust found out that the australian governong body member known as geoffrey jackson got engaged to a sister about two weeks ago.
it really shocked me at first but then i remembered how other members of the gb have remarried in the past like daniel sidlik.
what made me say "woah" was hearing that the holy bride to be is really young!

More on Brother Horton's and other coffee stops.
by BreathoftheIndianNose inobviously here in canada, the go to coffee stop is tim horton's, for the most part that is.
but what about in other countries, where did/do you all go for coffee breaks when needing a way to somewhat enjoy your service time?.

In the 60s we looked for an out of the way place....to hide.
In the 21st century the locals look for something centrally located to see and be seen.

A thread for those who have no support system or a place to go due to shunning.
by ohiocowboy inreading the recent thread about the young lady who just ended her life got me thinking that maybe there could be a thread that is easily accessible to anyone who may need help due to homelessness from losing their families and friends to shunning.
too often i hear stories about people who have lost everything, and have no where to go, and at the same time having no type of support system.
unfortunately there are some who are so lost that they feel that there are no options besides taking their own life.. i think that a website that matches people in need to others who can help in some way would be a great idea.

Jamie,
Great link. HUD has a lot of programs. I attended a HUD seminar a long time ago. The manuals and programs are many...the sized of a NYC phonebook. However some private investors actually become rich GIVING AWAY discounted lodging. The programs change constantly, but when I looked into it...
A suitable apartment, hotel etc is located, and is bought with Government money with the promise that for the next 15 years it will remain low income housing. Repair and update money is provided at almost 0% by the government. The future "tenants" are provided "vouchers" for discounted apartments or homes. Many landlords (profit or non profit groups or religions) "HELP" friends, members etc to qualify for this aid and get ...say a $600 a month apartment for $200 using the voucher. The government makes up the difference, in this case $400 per month.
The landlord gets full bore rent, and a property purchased and maintained for almost zero $$ in the game. However it requires A LOT of bookeeping and knowledge. The building had to remain in the program for 15 years when I looked into it ..that means no changing of one's mind.

Has anyone heard of "Secret Disfellowshipping" by Jehovah's Witnesses? Menlo Park Ca. Congregation. Update.
by Balaamsass inno doubt everyone has been following the juan viejo postings regarding the watchtower kingdom hall "grab" on jwn for the last couple of years.
called the mrs and me to say "wow- you have to google this" we did...came here to jwn ...became members..and the rest is history.. in the last nine months i have been calling and emailing contacts in the silicon valley for verification on the societies theft and forced sale of the menlo park kingdom hall (near the new facebook heaquarters) because the story seemed...a little far fetched.
every reliable contact i made has confirmed what juan reported.

Does the current Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses go out in field service in Brooklyn ?
by Balaamsass inin the past, 20 years ago governing body members did go in field service and participate in field service with rank & file members.
however it appears that perhaps the "slowdown" in service activity might be traced to headquarters.
the "read the bible sign" is going the way of the dinosaurs..with the move to "the compound" upstate perhaps "advertise, advertise, advertise" has been replaced with "hide, hide, hide"...the king and his kingdom.

Calebs Airplane made an interesting post on another thread from Anthony Morris the 3rd:
"
"After 2 ambiguous talks from 2 bethel speakers, Anthony Morris III finally takes the stage and everyone is so thrilled to see him up close or on the big screen behind the stage. After a brief introduction, he starts rambling incoherently about faith, field service and slowing down. I could barely understand him. Was he drunk? Who knows? Anyways, about 10 minutes into his talk (when he almost had everyone asleep), he asked this very strange question:
“Let’s have a show of hands. How many of you enjoy having to get up early every Saturday morning to go to field service?”
Strangely, less than 1/3 of those in attendance actually raised their hands... of course, all the ass kissers in the first 20 rows raised their hands. Tony’s bizarre response to this weak show of hands was:
“Well that’s a lot more than I had anticipated. I certainly don’t enjoy getting up early to go to field service. What with all the not-at-homes and sometimes offensive people you run into in the territory, it really takes a lot of faith to endure. But it’s something we all have to do.”
That’s right, the one person in the entire coliseum who is supposed to enjoy the Saturday morning JW ritual, publicly admitted that he really doesn’t enjoy it. I was there... I heard it loud and clear."

GREAT THREAD. GREAT IDEA OHIO COWBOY!!!
Perhaps there is even a way to do this for FREE. A JW in San Diego has figured a way to have US Housing and Urban Development PAY him to open low income housing for retired circuit Overseers....and make a profit.
It would be awsome to open a facility to provide low income housing (near a college preferably) for anyone leaving the Borg. Think of all the good it would do, and lives it would save.
Great idea from a good heart Ohio Cowboy!!

List of Branch Offices and Country Offices of Jehovah's Witnesses
by cedars ini'm trying to put together a comprehensive master list of watch tower society branch offices that corresponds roughly with the figure published in the worldwide report.. i feel it would be useful to monitor the number and location of existing branch offices, because i believe the distribution of branch offices worldwide is a good indicator of the society's financial wellbeing.
we now seem to be entering a period of branch office closures, with last year seeing an unprecendented 16% reduction in branch office numbers over the year before.
it will be interesting to see how things develop moving forward, but i'm hoping that by keeping a list of the offices we will be better placed to keep track of the "retreat" if branch office numbers continue to dwindle.. here we go.... .

Return to Sender....address unknown......
Return to sender, return to sender
I gave a letter to the post man, he put it his sack.
Bright and early next morning, he brought my letter back.
She wrote upon it:
Return to sender, address unknown.
No such number, no such zone.
We had a quarrel, a lovers' spat,
I'd write "I'm sorry" but my letter keeps coming back.
So when I dropped it in the mailbox, I sent it "Special D"
Bright and early next morning, it came right back to me.
She wrote upon it:
Return to sender, address unknown.
No such person, no such zone.
This time I'm gonna take it myself
And put it right in her hand
And if it comes back the very next day
Then I'll understand.
The writing on it:
Return to sender, address unknown.
No such person, no such zone.
Return to sender, return to sender. -
