I went home to visit my sister today...
by fallen_princess ini haven't posted on here much recently but i thought out of everything that has happened since my husband and i together left the jw's, this was tame enough and not as drama-laden enough to share.... i have been married and out of the house for only about a year and a half, and since then, i have not been attending meetings after learning the truth about the "truth".
of course, i have caught flack for it but my family is on this new passive-aggressive kick; trying to guilt me about leaving without actually outwardly saying anything.. today, my sister (the new young regular pioneer) invited me (the apostate) over to my mother's house to hang out and maybe watch a movie.
i was responsible for picking the movie.

Once I became completely inactive and it did not appear I was ever coming back my father began to speak to me like I was just another inactive Witness rather than his son. Witnesses violate Jehovah's own arrangement as they do not respect an individual's freewill. No matter how badly my father wants me to return to the cult it is my choice to make. They can't see that.

Is it true..
by iamwhoiam in...that there is a literature invoice the congregation has to pay every month in order to recieve literature?

It is not true.
However, I was the literature servant in my congregation for more years then I would like to remember. I can tell you that:
Certain high dollar items have a manufacturer's suggested donation price. Our Congregation Coordinator (over whatever they are called) had stickers printed to put on these items to remind the person who ordered them about the donation process and to considered what such an item would cost if purchased at a retail store. So, guilt was often used to motivate a certain amount for donation.
In addition, the Service Overseer or Secretary would review the monthly order form. High dollar items may be reduced from the order amount. In addition, you might order 10 of one particular item and only receive 2 in your shipment with a footnote that says the ran out.

I hate the word "cheated" when used in reference to a romantic relationship. You can cheat in sports. You can cheat at cards. Cheating implies you broke rules to gain an advantage.
I think the proper word is "faithful" as we are taking in terms of infedelity. If there was no sex involved there was no infedelity. This is a case of disloyalty. There is a difference between being faithful and be loyal.
You are faithful to your spouse by having a relations only with her. You are faithful to your spouse by avoiding flirting. Loyalty goes beyond faithfulness.
So, your wife was disloyal and, based on her own account, I bet she'd have been unfaithful that same night if he flame had pushed it. In fact, based on the way you painted the picture, I am sure that was her intent. So, here's the magic question:
Do you trust her still?
You can forgive her all day long, every day, but if you have misgivings that she will repeat everytime she walks out the door, I have some bad news for you; it's over. Get an attorney and part ways. Move on and be happy.

God either wants to eliminate bad things and cannot, or can but does not want to, or neither wishes to nor can, or both wants to and can. If he wants to and cannot, then he is weak - and this does not apply to god. If he can but does not want to, then he is spiteful - which is equally foreign to god's nature. If he neither wants to nor can, he is both weak and spiteful, and so not a god. If he wants to and can, which is the only thing fitting for a god, where then do bad things come from? Or why does he not eliminate them? - Riddle of Epicurus

The Control is simply amazing
by outsmartthesystem inat the kind advice of so many of you (and hassan) on this board....i ceased attempting to discuss doctrine/failures with my wife many months ago.
but unfortunately that does not prevent her from grilling me from time to time.
during one of our infamous "discussions" she said she was going to "investigate" this supposed "proof" that is out there regarding 587bc.

Seeking truth that is veiled by lies is like steadily pulling on a loose thread of a garmet. The more you pull the thread the more of the veil is removed. Why stop with "Jehovah's Witnesses have it all wrong"?
"Where would she go?" Who says we have to go anywhere?

Mirinda v. Arizona is the landmark court case which lead to the now famous Miranda Admonishment/Rights were are familiar with. Back in 1966 Ernesto Miranda was arrested for the kidnapping and rape of a 18-year-old woman. He signed a confession after 2 hours of interrogation by the police, but was never told he had a right to remain silent or have an attorney.
Miranda Warning
You have the right to remain silent. Any statement you make may be used as evidence against you at your trial. You have a right to have a lawyer present prior to and during questioning. If you are unable to employ a lawyer you have the right to have one appointed to you. You have the right to terminate the interview at any time. Do you understand these rights as I have read them to you? Do you wish to answer my questions at this time?
Imagine is there was an admonishment printed in every copy of ever Watchtower publication similiar to this. Imagine if it went something like this:
Watchtower Admonishment
Prospective Bible student:
It is the express purpose of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society and the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses that, by your voluntary study of this publication with Jehovah's Witnesses, you will become a baptised, dedicated publisher, which will mark you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Such dedication implies you voluntarily comply with all doctrines and guidelines set forth by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society and freely admit that those doctrines are true.
Upon your dedication and baptism, any voluntary acts that could be considered to be disharmonious with Watchtower doctrines or guidelines, or any statements that could be considered in opposition to these doctrines or guidelines, or any attempt to cease acknowledging that Jehovah's Witnesses are the only true religion will result in you being disfellowshipped or disassociated by the Watchtowe Bible & Tract Society and the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Disfellowshipping or Disassociation means that all members of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses will be instructed to cease all communication with you as well as any unnecessary dealings. This includes, but is not limited to, famliy members living outside your home, relatives, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. If the aforementioned voluntarily communicate with you, they are subject to disfellowshipping.
Do you understand this admonishment as read?
Do you wish to continue with this study?
I wonder how many people would have joined if such an admonishment were given ahead of time?

Ask her: "If undeniable evidence existed that the 70 years did not begin in 607bce would you change your belief or just continue believe whatever the Watchtowe Bible & Tract Society tells you?"

A few years back I was shocked to find out my sister, who is still in, held a "Toy Day" party for her daughter. Not only her, but a friend of hers in the congregation who has a son the same age. On Toy Day family and friends come to your Toy Day party and give you wrapped gifts.
The big shocker to me was that my parents attended and brought gifts. My parents are old school, hardcore JWs who can find fault with just about everything, especially if it is fun or pleasurable.

Jesus loves American Football
by designs inwhat is your take on players in all sports who feel the need to connect their athleticism with god's will.
tebow of the denver broncos is the latest in a long line of players who either thank jesus or point a finger to heaven when they score a touchdown or slam some guys head into a concussion.. oddly you don't see bowlers doing the same praise jesus dance for knocking over some pins, i guess its not that exciting to jesus .
