Thought Reform and the Psychology of the 'Safeguard Your Heart!' 2012 Convention
by breakfast of champions into make attendance at my second district convention "mentally out" both a little more bearable and meaningful, i decided to take some notes of key points as if i were an outsider studying the thought reform methods of jehovah's witnesses.
at first, i was only going to share these notes with my therapist, but inspired by the "parsing the watchtower double-speak" thread, i figured i would share my amateur analysis with everyone.
here are some of the highlights:.

What Place the 10 Commandments in Modern Society?
by AK - Jeff inthis is not my essay - but it mirrors my opinions on the matter.
the entire essay found here: http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/10c.html.
the key portion i wanted to share for those willing to think it about how the insistence of fundamental christians demanding the posting of this jewish decalog widely within our government institutions and schools, is both foolish and oppositionary to the very principles they claim to uphold.. first commandment: "thou shalt have no other gods before me.

The 6th commandment is actually: Thou shall not murder. The difference is that murder is an unlawful act whereas there may be a lawful reason to kill a person. There are even laws in the Mosiac Law that further this and we seem them mirrored in our modern laws.
The 7th commandment is directly related to the real reason marriage was even created: property rights. Prior to currency, wealth was measured in land and livestock. Women were prohibited from owning property. Therefore, it was important for men to produce a legitimate male heir to pass his wealth on to. Sleeping around and producing multiple male heirs with multiple women presents a huge problem.
The 10th commandment: See "The 7th commandment".
Commandments 1-4 are all BS as they, like all religions, are just a tool to control the masses.

The great crowd has no mediator. Jesus is only the mediator for the 144K

I just finished watching it. Wow! Unbelievable.
I was in for 30+ years and have only been out for about 7 years. I have never heard such a thing, before. Correct me if I am wrong, but is this the same understanding you got from listening to this:
1) Jesus is only a mediator between Jehovah and the 144,000
2) Any person not of the annointed only receives benefits from God's kingdom via the 144,000 and only after the 144,000 are complete in heaven
Maybe the New World Translation should read: "And God loved the 144,000 so much he gave his only begotten son..."

Watchtower, Wolverine, and the LIE that every 13-year-old saw RIGHT AWAY...
by Unlearn ini'll always remember this issue of the awake warning jw parents about comic books and why they were so dangerous.. the cover had a kid on the front sitting indian-style reading a comic book, wide-eyed and smiling.
came out in the early 1980's.. i'll always remember it because it screwed up one of my favorite past-times: i was around 13 years old and a hardcore collector.. after this article, it was a continual tug-o-war with my dad over comics....and it lasted until i was 18 and moved out.. .
here's what was telling about that article:.

This is the topic of my Caleb/Sparlock experience. I was 13 and a hardcore collector of comic books. I had just recently added Giant Size X-Men #1 to my collection when my father decided to throw it all into the garbage bin in front of me.
To add insult to injury, he felt he was being kind by buying me a $80.00 skateboard to replace my $5,000.00 comic book collection.

I think the video will strengthen the resolve of some of the younger born-ins to leave when they can. I was born-in and I had several of my own experiences which mirror poor Caleb's. The worst was when I was 13. At that age I new it was all BS. It took me about 17 more years to finally pull the pin, but I did it.

How an original STAR TREK episode nearly cost me my first JW marriage in its first year...true story I find funny/sad
by oompa inso i'm 21, just married, and raised in my fathers image and thank god he liked sci-fi...a genre i was able to escape to new worlds in.
he even took me to a trekkie covention when i was albout 12 at the greensboro coliseum and it was packed.
we had watched every episode over and over...i thought.

Oompa: You don't have to refer to it as "TOS". There is only one true Trek. Often simulated, but never duplicated.
I remember ditching field service to go to a Trek Convention. The meeting for field service was at my nextdoor neighbor's house. I walked out in full costume and makeup as the group was leaving for the territory.

Did you used to be an assembly food rapist?
by yourmomma ini confess proudly that i was one of the biggest assembly food rapists when it switched to the donation arrangement.
in fact, i would roll up to the counter with a fake list and pretend i was getting food for a huge family, lol.
"uh, yes, hello sister, what a fine morning program that was, may i please have 6 roast beef sandwhiches, 6 chocolate puddings, 6 apple danishes, 6 sodas....etc" and i would eat throughout the entire fking program, as it was so boring there was nothing else to do.

"...one of those 30 weight oil pasta salads."
I remember the 1990 District Convention. The first day of the program my dad went to get lunch for my whole family. When he came back all he had was 5 of those nasty pasta salads. He said everything else was gone because not enough food was ordered.
After that my mom just packed us lunches.

The BRAND is what sells JW's and the alternate lifestyle
by Terry injehovah's witnesses don't have a message.
they have an alternate lifestyle.. for persons put off by teachings of eternal torment they offer eternal sleep or a paradise earth.. for christians disaffected by tepid sermons and rituals they offer a vital lifesaving field service ministry.. in a world saturated in sex and exhibitionism, loud rude music and apathy they offer modesty of dress, cleanliness and worldwide family.. they are seen by the world much the same way as the amish only more modern.. people find their teaching quaint or laughable but think they are sincere and eager for postive change.. .
this is a brand more than a religion.. when the average person looks at jw's they see loyalty.

The brand is "The Truth tm ". How many times have we read published experiences of non-born ins state,"Thats when I knew this was the truth"?
However, the lifestyle is often presented as evidence of JWs being the only true religion.
