Beards....Do What Your Told! The WT Owns You, You Disobedient, Spiritually Immature, Publisher!
by allyouneedislove inwas talking to an elder about beards.
he said that at bethel, only black and hispanic brothers can have mustaches (any actual facts supporting this decision?).
he mentioned that we don't want to stumble anyone so that they won't hear our message.

@poppers: Too bad the US government doesn't view the Marines as precious lives. The government acts like they respect military, but in reality anyone in the military is viewed as just another tank or gun owned by the government. Don't believe me? Google experiments by the government where military were used as guinea pigs, without even informed consent. Just another collective if you ask me, where the individual means nothing.

Was talking to an Elder about beards. He said that at Bethel, only black and hispanic brothers can have mustaches (any actual facts supporting this decision?). He mentioned that “we don't want to stumble anyone so that they won't hear our message”. He then said that “if you look around the congregation, none of the brothers have beards, so if someone keeps theirs, it is a sign of spiritual maturity”. Wish he would read: (John 7:24) 24 Stop judging from the outward appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” The thing about Bethel reminds me of something I learned about boot camp. I was told that in Marine boot camp (60's and 70's), soldiers were told to do bizarre things, like sleep with their rifle and recite strange lines. They do it because they are told to do it. It is part of breaking down the individual and introducing the collective. The things they are asked to do don't have to make sense. They are government issue now.

The homeowner usually has a payout from the insurance company in hand. The materials are purchased with that money. However, guess what...the rest of the money goes to the WT! The labor is free! Woohoo! LOL!

I have recently posted a question regarding the name Jehovah in the Bible.
What I don't get about the quote in the RSV is:
Of course Jehovah doesn't represent any form of the Hebrew used for YHWH. Jehovah is a transliteration. If one wanted to change YHWH to Hebrew, they would say Yahweh in the Bible. If they want to render the name into English, much like they have done for names like Jeremiah, Joshua, then Jehovah would be acceptable.
Right?

Name Jehovah
by allyouneedislove ini have a question regarding the name "jehovah".. is yahweh an english translation of the name?
if not, and some say that we don't know exactly how it should be translated, what about the argument the wt makes regarding "we do not know how jesus' name was originally said either".
other bible translations translate names like "jeremiah" from their original language.

@ Lore:
Thanks for helping me out with a straightforward answer. You all must understand that I have read but still do not understand the use & transliteration of YHWH.
Lore: You said
"You asked two questions: Is Yahweh an english translation of the name?
Answer: No. But it is a transliteration of the name. Meaning it's an attempt at using English letters to form the same sound that was made by ancient Hebrews."
How is Yahweh the best transliteration of YHWH when it does not even contain a "J"? I mean, we use Jeremiah, Jacob, etc. So, wouldn't the transliteration be something along the lilnes of 'Jah', it is was being transliterated to English?
Thanks

Is this argument sound?
*** rs p. 196 par. 3 Jehovah ***
Most names change to some extent when transferred from one language to another. Jesus was born a Jew, and his name in Hebrew was perhaps pronounced Ye·shu'a?, but the inspired writers of the Christian Scriptures did not hesitate to use the Greek form of the name, I·e·sous'. In most other languages the pronunciation is slightly different, but we freely use the form that is common in our tongue. The same is true of other Bible names. Is the difference between transliterating (Jeremiah in Hebrew) to "Jeremiah" vs. transliterating YHWH to "Jehovah" possibly that, since the Jews did not pronounce the name YHWH for so long. that there is no way to know how it is pronounced? If so, how are we able to know how to pronounce Jeremiah (how do we know what vowels to use)? PLEASE HELP!!!
