People who complain constantly irritate me WAY more. My absolute favorites are the ones who say, "I'm so sick of people complaining about everything. I mean, your life could be as bad as mine." Okay, so isn't that complaining, too? :P

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?
by rory-ks ini only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.
it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.
or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

I have NEVER seen Jehovah's Witnesses out in my entire life. Seriously. Ever. If it weren't for my boyfriend, I wouldn't have the foggiest idea what they believe. Meanwhile, I see Mormon missionaries at least once a month, if not more often, and I've had more Baptists knock on my door than anything else. Clearly those Jehohos are doing a great job!

I'm a Niners fan who works with a ton of Seahawks fans... most of whom are frontrunners. I think I might get some assault charges at work tomorrow. :P

So George Takei posted a JW pic on his Facebook
by ilikecheese inhttp://www.facebook.com/georgehtakei.
it's just a silly door-knocking related picture, but it's generated a bit of arguing about how he shouldn't make fun of them.
plus there are some apologist/"apostate" facebook wars... the best kind of wars, right?!

Faithful Witness, if you just scroll down on that link up there, there's a picture just a tiny ways down of a bunch of doors. It says "Jehovah's Witness training center."

George is a huge gay rights guy, obviously, and if enough people saw that, it could generate a bit of attention!
I would post it, but my boyfriend is on Facebook a lot, and I don't want him to see me bad-mouthing them. Trying to win him away from them by not saying lots of awful things... no matter how much I'd like to!

Important scripture about the Faithful and Discreet Slave
by Crazyguy inits been mentioned here before that the governing body almost never mentions the verses in luke about the faithful and discreet slave.
one reason is because the scriptures are more in detail but could this also be the real reason they don't mention these scriptures.. .

Oh, I know it's the same thing, basically. I was just showing what the various translations said because of the comment before mine.

Rich Man and Lazarus
by Ding ini have never understood the watchtower's explanation of the rich man and lazarus story jesus told in luke 16. of course, they don't believe jesus is talking about what happens in an "afterlife" after people die.. but from the watchtower's point of view:.
1. who are the five brothers?.
2. why can't lazarus go witness to them?

What is with the WT obsession with King David??
by BU2B init seems like at least once a month he is brought up as a good example in the study wt.
it seems like he is given more praise than jesus.
have you noticed this?

I'm not a JW, but I think they like to stress God's "imperfect leaders," so that all of their constant mistakes are more acceptable. "Hey, at least Anthony Morris isn't having an affair with one of the other GB's wives and then killing the other GB member! He's just fixated on pants that showcase a man's butt."
I think they just really want to drive home the fact that God "uses" people who make lots of mistakes. It's a thinly veiled attempt to validate themselves.

Julia, here's a link to the various translations of it... http://biblehub.com/luke/12-41.htm
I went to JW.org, and it says, " Then Peter said: “Lord, are you telling this illustration just to us or also to everyone?” "

"Jehovah ALWAYS had/used an organization". How would you reply?
by EdenOne inin a recent meeting with elders, an argument was used to the effect that jehovah has always [= throughout history] used, or operated through, an organization; therefore, the wts must be that organization today, since god must be using one.
naturally, i know what arguments i've used to counter that argument.
but i'm interested in hearing yours.

When my boyfriend says something like that, I just ask him who his organization was for the nearly 2000 years between the deaths of the apostles and the start of JWdom.
I also think a good point is when Paul said, in one of his letters, that certain people were following Cephas, Apollo or him, when they should all just be following Christ. The whole point is following Jesus, not any men who tell you how to find him.
