What is with the WT obsession with King David??

It seems like at least once a month he is brought up as a good example in the Study WT. It seems like he is given more praise than Jesus.

Have you noticed this? Any Ideas as to why this is?

The funny thing is that all modern scholarship shows David was nothing like the Biblical image we are given.

Mind you, that will not deter the WT, they still write as though Noah and the Flood were real FFS !!

The religion wants to feel that they ALSO should be able to do or say anything they want and STILL be viewed as righteous, untouchable and, most of all, unaccountable.

King David (and his son, King Solomon) represented the peak of the United Monarchy, a legendary time in Bible history from the 10th Century BC when an independent and free Jewish State was said to have existed (there's some question of how historically-accurate the Bible is; some archaeologists doubt such a Kingdom existed, although others think it did, but it wasn't as vast or influential as the Bible claims).

Regardless, the thought of such a powerful military State which exerted influence in the region had allure to every Jew, and after it was destroyed (by military conquest) the memory of it inspired the prophets to write of a mortal messiah who was to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple, collect the 12 tribes together (who'd been scattered via disapora for 500 years) to live in a rebuilt Kingdom, leading the Gentile Nations under God in idyllic and peaceful times. Jesus was caught up in the idea; so much so, he wanted to be the King of the rebuilt Nation, and claimed to be the Jewish messiah!

The idea of rebuilding "glory days" of a Nation lost-since lost is a powerful motivator of men (think of the Hobbit movie, with the dwarfs trying to retake their homeland from Smaug to regain their past cultural glory and status). The JWs are simply tapping into that same dynamic of "paradise lost".

Unless something more recent has turned up, the New York Times reported that archaelogists have yet to find any evidence of King David's existence. They have garbage left from other eras. The Israeli scientists believe that King David was invented to give a later King legitimacy.

I never believed in David and Goliath until I saw a Palestinian use a sling during the uprisiing. My mind thought of a Tom Sawyer type weapon.
