People who pioneer on government assistance
by ilikecheese ini had a chat with my boyfriend about this, and he said that he knows quite a few pioneers who are capable of working but prefer to pioneer with government assistance.
his thought was, "well, it's kind of bad, but at least they're doing something useful/good with their time.
" i know from reading this board that it's a pretty widespread thing.

Cancer Research Worthless?
by metatron inhttp://www.hangthebankers.com/evidence-suggests-that-up-to-90-of-landmark-cancer-research-may-be-false/.
a surprizing and shocking report, if true.
tends to confirm some of my biases about how medical research is grossly distorted.. .

Big Pharma makes SOOO much money off of all of the cancer patients out there. It wouldn't really surprise me if they tried to suppress any healthier, cheaper, or less devastating treatments. Our world is run by corrupt people who are all about the buck. I've seen family members go through cancer, and the amount of money shelled out for drugs during the process is absolutely insane.
One other thing that I find interesting is that tons of studies have shown that the birth control pill increases your risk of breast cancer. I've read stories about many doctors who want this to be more known, but you don't hear much about them in general. The go to answer for any issue in "lady land" is "go on the pill." Headaches during your cycle? Pill. Really bad cramping? Pill. Irregular? Pill. Heavier flow? Pill. Even if you're still in high school and not even thinking about sex at the moment, that's the answer. You ask if there's anything more natural, and the answer is always no.
Thanks for that link, talesin! It was interesting.

"People who pioneer on government assistance = Satan subsidizing Jehovah's work which is to discredit and destroy Satan!
Yep. Makes perfect sense to me!
Farkel"
Ha, yeah, that's one thing that I brought up. "Aren't you supposed to despise governments? Then why don't people have a problem living off of government money?" "Well, we pay taxes, so we help support the government..." Apparently "Satan" is returning the favor.

What were your thoughts on it when you were a JW? What about now? Do you think it's an abuse of the system at all? Or do you agree with my boyfriend, that at least they're doing something good?
Just curious.

40% of Americans Believe in Strict Creationism
by leavingwt infour in 10 americans believe in strict creationism.
four in 10 americans, slightly fewer today than in years past, believe god created humans in their present form about 10,000 years ago.
thirty-eight percent believe god guided a process by which humans developed over millions of years from less advanced life forms, while 16%, up slightly from years past, believe humans developed over millions of years, without god's involvement.. a small minority of americans hold the "secular evolution" view that humans evolved with no influence from god -- but the number has risen from 9% in 1982 to 16% today.

I've generally gone to churches that are "evangelical" types, but I'd say that most of the people who go to those churches either accept the possibility that God could have used evolution as a tool for creation or definitely believe that it was his means of creation. Most of the people who don't are typically older. Either way, they don't get too upset if someone dares to disagree. They may give you that, "Oh, that poor idiot" look, but the feeling is probably mutual.
My JW boyfriend says that he thinks it's a possibility evolution was the tool, but God actually expressly created Adam. So he doesn't follow that staunch creationism thought, either. There's hope for him yet! Just don't alert the elders...

Why Do You Come To This Site?
by minimus ini believe that this site, jwn, serves many purposes.
.
some are here almost, out of need.. others are here because they want to know the latest in watchtower world.. still others come here for the entertainment.. why do you frequent this place?

I come here because you guys are all so funny, but I'm not really one to post much because I don't feel I can sufficiently match the hilarity.
I was thinking about maybe going to a meeting without my boyfriend knowing and posting my thoughts. I'm scared they might sniff me out as an interloper, though, because I plan to wear trousers.
Maybe if I go, I'll post about it.
I also like reading whichever things are being discussed at the weekly meetings so that I can "casually" bring up topics related to it when I'm talking with my boyfriend. He'll say, "We were JUST talking about that!" And I'll say, "Wow... what a coincidence..."

July 2013 Watchtower "Should You Trust Religion?"
by ilikecheese ini read this article while i was looking at the other magazine you guys were talking about.
they were being really stupid and generalizing about the other religions they were talking about again.
my favorite bit was where someone was saying that they went to a church that passed the offering plate around three times and that they were expected to put money in it each time.

I read this article while I was looking at the other magazine you guys were talking about. They were being really stupid and generalizing about the other religions they were talking about again. My favorite bit was where someone was saying that they went to a church that passed the offering plate around three times and that they were expected to put money in it each time. Earlier, someone said that the church pastor wouldn't study the Bible with them and just told her to send money when she stopped going.
Maybe I just haven't been around the block with churches, but does that happen ANYWHERE? Some churches I've gone to only pass the offering around on Sunday mornings, and most people don't put anything in there. If it is every service, it's only at the beginning, and no one gives a poo if you put money in. Plus, unless it's some broader organization, the money goes to the upkeep of the building, to pay the salaries of the few church employees, and to fund their food pantries/community outreaches/mission work/charities/etc. I've mostly gone to smaller churches, unaffiliated with any larger group, and they're fairly modest when it comes to their layout.
So do they just basically make stuff like that up? I mean, I guess banning JWs from going to other churches would make it pretty difficult for the average person from finding out they're full of crap. Or am I just not going to the fancy pants churches with gold Bibles, silver pews, and pastors modeling the latest fashions from Milan?

I just read it, and maybe it's because I'm not a JW, but my reaction was essentially, "What the actual f&*$?"
How can any of that make any sense or be logical to anyone? I mean, I know logic is severely lacking in their teachings, but this is kind of a new low. Do JWs actually read this stuff? Or just memorize so they can seem like they care?
