Just wanted to add: I know I risk putting myself out there like this, especially among the evangelical nonbelievers. I will probably be called "crazy", but I am reasonably sane despite my Watchtower upbringing. I really wish there was more tolerance on JWN for both believers and nonbelievers.

I do have a personal Gideon-like experience from when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, I can't talk about it because I promised I wouldn't. I have broken my word on occasion and I felt bad every time. It could be he won't hold me to it, but I really don't want to go back on my word anymore unless I get the "all clear". But this is why I only went agnostic and not atheist when I was disfellowshipped, then gravitated back to Christianity after reading Crisis of Conscience. Thus, I still believed there is a Higher Power of some nature, and then came to realize that Christianity is a good frame of reference for me.
I really don't have all the answers…or even many of them, therefore, I am going to speculate a bit: I don't think we can expect miraculous or immediate answers to our problems in the material world. At least, not in this age. Prayer is foremost a method to develop our relationship with the Divine. Mostly, we will gain wisdom in the long run in answer. I believe God is interested in seeing us learn from our problems and is interested in seeing the solutions we come up with to them. He is interested in us developing empathy toward others and, as we come to our fellowman's aid, become the answer to their prayers. Though we may be caterpillars or cocoons at present, from an eternal viewpoint, we will emerge like butterflies. It might be really heretical to say this, but we might have "signed" up for this. We might have a goal we are here to fulfill. A miraculous escape would interfere with this.

i stopped being an active member of the congregation in november 2010, but it had been brewing for several years, with the customary gradual drifting away - all the necessary mental gymnastics as my spiritual views changed and doubts set in; quitting the theocratic ministry school; ceasing to answer; sitting quietly off to the side.
i think the straw that broke the camels back was when family worship inevitably became family worship.

Indeed, many will say "it's over my head" and "the Slaves says it and that's good enough for me". But there are some who do know how it is calculated, but do not know the real facts, because of information control. This was THE pivotal issue for me. This thread in particular helped me. So for those who are now where I was, I do want to keep this front and center.

Keeping in mind the importance of these books, an addendum to my above post. And I might be somewhat presumptuous in saying this, so my apologies:
Perhaps, those who have taken a public lead among former or awakened Witnesses, or at least, those with a practical mind in these matters, could somehow assist Sister Franz in making these books available.
I believe this would be an important public work.

I just ordered the remaining copies of In Search of Christian Freedom. I resorted to buying a used copy of Crisis of Conscience--that is not optimal as I would rather support Sister Franz.
Of course, I've already read these in PDF form. But I want to have them handy so as to allow others to borrow them among those I can trust…or have small old fashion Book Studies.
As more and more people are awakening, I feel it is absolutely imperative that affordable copies be made available in print. I believe these books can give those who are awakening clarity and direction like nothing else.

Therefore, Jesus was depicted in a way that reflected the image of the Cult Leader. The Society might not have even been c onscious of that, but it was probably a mostly Subconscious dynamic.
