What is missing in Watchtower using Jeremiah 29:10 as an isolated prooftext is the context. Jeremiah was writing to the Exiles who had been taken to Babylon 11 years before the destruction of Jerusalem. He was telling them to settle down, because they would not return until the 70 years (which had already begun) elapsed.

This might be a good week to start a conversation about Jeremiah 29:10
by George One Time inat this week clam meeting, jeremiah 29:10 is discussed:.
jer 29:10—how does this verse demonstrate the accuracy of bible prophecy?
the mistranslation of this verse is the basis of the idea that the jews spend 70 years in exile in babylon.

Watchtower is an apocalyptic cult. So yes, they are extremist. The Pew polls show that their adherents are the poorest and least educated. They also have the lowest retention rate. Likely more have died because of denial of blood transfusions than perished because of Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Heaven's Gate--many times over.
Watchtower enforces their teachings aggressively, killing without committing outright violence.
And still a ban is not a solution. Taxing the organization into dissolution is.

What everyone has said here is 110 percent true.
And beside that (until if and when they wake up) JW women are fickle and not good life partners. If it's complicated now, it's only going to get more complicated as time goes on.
You deserve a person who recripicates your interest unconditionally. I am sure there are plenty of women out there who are not in a cult and can make you happier.

Why more highly educated people are less into conspiracy theories
by Mickey mouse ini've seen discussions here about how jehovah's witnesses seem to be prone to believing conspiracy theories... https://digest.bps.org.uk/2017/04/05/why-more-highly-educated-people-are-less-into-conspiracy-theories/.
this last paragraph seems particularly relevant:.
importantly, van prooijen said his findings help make sense of why education can contribute to “a less paranoid society” even when conspiracy theories are not explicitly challenged.

so much for babylon the great falling in 1919
by nowwhat? insuposedly babylon the great lost her power and influence over the people and government rulers back in 1919. flash forward to today the russian orthodox church is behind the banning of witnesses in russia.
yet another failed prophecy!
have these guys gotten anything right?!

Why are the individuals who make up the Governing Body so deluded
by UnshackleTheChains insurely these men must see what's going on.
if they can afford fancy pinky rings, they must have smart phones.
if they have smart phones, they must be inquisitive as to how they are perceived.

I believe the members of the Governing Body are the products of a system, a vicious cycle of indoctrination. The cult leaders before them were as well...going all the way back to Russell and Rutherford.
They started out as Joe Publisher and throughout the decades rose through the ranks. For decades, they've known nothing else but fulltime cult life. They now live in a bubble and are surrounded by sycophants. Their needs are all cared for and they live in comfort.
Eight million people sing their praises...that must be intoxicating. Also, the idea that they will be whisked to heaven to rule with Jesus...that must be intoxicating too.
On the other hand, coming to terms with the truth would be the exact opposite, too terrible to contemplate. They've invested their whole life into this and they need this to be true.
If one of them did wake up, what would they do on the outside world? They would be tossed out, could not make a living, not live in comfort, not have their increasing medical expenses paid.
The system would simply replace them with someone else who was indoctrinated.

I finally get why people like to shun.
by poopie init finally hit me today.
why do religions enjoy shunning.
because many people feel like being close to god makes them special however just being special is not enough for many religious people that shun they must feel extra special how?

Apologists saying that the JWs shouldn't be banned, what the hell!??
by Crazyguy init's been brought to my attention that there are xjw that say they support the witnesses and don't think russia should ban them.
i would just like to remind all of you that jws are guilty of murder, causing higher rates of suicide, covering up child molestation, and keeping members in prisoned because if they leave they loose family, financial support, possible employment etc.. sure their not strapping bombs to their chests but they easily get members to kill themselves with their blood policies.
they are an extremist group!
