Evolution of a congregation 1978- 2018
by joey jojo inour whole congregation was excited as we stood in front of our brand new kh and smiled for the photographer from the local newspaper.. for years we had been travelling 30 mins each way to attend the meetings and now, after a big effort of donations and hard work we finally had our own kh in our own town.
in the picture, there were 45 smiling faces of all ages, from the newborn to the old brother that had turned 100 and everyone in between.
the year was 1978.. the congregation grew and shrank over the years, probably hitting its peak during the 80's and 90's, there was even a renovation in the early 90's that the local brothers donated towards, for the benefit of the local town to hear the good news about the imminent arrival of the end.

Just asked JW wife to quit
by rathernotsay inso i wont get into why i asked my jw wife to leave... theres another thread for that lol... but more out of pure curiosity i asked her just now... "in order to save this marriage would you leave the jws?
", it was a snap call no, like not even a second to pause and think about it, which kinda took me back a bit, followed by a angry "why would you ask me that now?
" (shes going out witnessing with my kids and her friends).

Whatever you do, don't play the part of the "opposer".
JWs are indoctrinated to expect "persecution" or opposition from non-JW family...and there is a very low-bar for what constitutes this in the JW mindset. When, in their perception, they receive "family opposition", it reaffirms the belief system. It can also cause the "backfire" effect and make her more entrenched.
One of the three grounds for separation is "spiritual endangerment". I've seen the "spiritual endangerment" card played, in some cases, encouraged by the elders.
I'm sure when she went out in field service, she told her car group about this, and they were there to support her through this 'trial'.

Research help needed: knowledge of Knights Templar and Masonic history vital
by Fay Dehr ini am in conversation with a uk historian regarding some knights templar locations, where jws have built buildings.
*** this is serious research - not a joke *** .
i am not - and do not wish to be - a conspiracy theorist, but something has come to light in the uk and i lack the knowledge of knights templar + masons.

The Knights Templar were basically all wiped out in the 1300's.

The myth of the Finished Mystery book is useful for Watchtower. But they count on members not actually reading it.

Ministry experiences
by Freedom rocks inhi does anyone have any bad ministry experiences to share or really funny ones?.
some of mine were:.
- having water sprayed on us with a hose.
-

One time, a householder was washing their car and put the hose on the bumper. Well, the hose fell to the pavement handle first, and sprayed us. No biggie. It was actually refreshing.
Every door was pure anxiety for me. Just talking to stranger about religion was a bad enough experience. Being yelled at and so forth was just icing on the cake.

JW Nut Telling His Story Online
by pale.emperor inwhile searching for some jw related stuff online, i stumbled across this page created by a pimi.
his name is steve mcdowell and a watered down version of his story was published in the watchtower https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/wp20150701/bad-to-worse-life-story/.
however, this version, he says, is the full version.

Watchtower a few years ago came out with the term "personal ministry". Obviously, for legal reasons.
As the court showed, it is anything but.

JWs and Guns.
by blownaway ini was told shooting guns and collecting them was not something a jw should do.
when i lived way up north us it was more of a deer hunting group and so some guns were ok, when i moved to florida it was different.
most people in the hall were not hunters.

I grew up in a semirural area. My father was from the mountains and when his family visited or he went to visit them, he hunted as their culture is. My maternal grandfather had rifle, mainly for predatory animals or to ease the suffering of domestic animals. They were both elders.
Personally, I don't like killing animals and have no need to. I can simply go to the store and afford the food I need. And I'm not in a warzone, so I don't need to worry about self defense.
