Witness My Fury: I had that impression as well, but was a little too polite to say it.
The characterization of former members as arrogant, prideful, and so forth is an oft used trope by many cults. I do wonder if this could be an effort by certain cults (like Scientology) to spread disinformation. I'm sure Steven Hassan has stepped on many toes. This is, of course, speculation on my part, which is not backed up by any proof.

I don’t believe Steven Hassan is infallible or the only right answer…I was done with that kind of thinking when I awakened. Sometimes there are no silver bullet answers, especially in reaching out to second and third generation cult members. However, I have found his description of what a cult is, the methods cults use, how indoctrination and undue influence work useful. And the more I hear about other cults, such as Scientology, the more I see uncanny resembles to the one I belong too. Although disparate in teachings, these groups have the same method of operation. Sometimes, the best way to awaken a cult member, is by relating how other high control groups behave.
Much of Steven Hassan’s work is not new, but based on the research of Dr. Robert J. Lifton and others. There is little reason to be so personality-centric, because the focus should be on the causes and effects and solutions to the problems that are faced by many hear. The bottom line is that many are either cut off from their loved ones or operate under that threat. What advice do you have for these folks?
About my ‘problem’ of accepting criticism: I’ve yet to receive real criticism from you, especially since you know nothing about me, so I think the jury is likely out on that.

Enzo: am I attacking you or simply disagreeing with you? If I am indeed attacking you, are you by the same token attacking Steven Hassan?
You have not addressed any of the questions in my last post. Everyone here has been effected by the Jehovah’s Witness/Watchtower group in some way, shape, or form. You are posting in the “Beliefs, Doctrines, and Practices” section, yet your posts are unrelated. It seems your sole focus for joining has been to pimp a website...and rather than saying, “I found X, Y, Z helpful in coping”, the main promotional thrust has been to discredit others.

Enzo,
What is your background? Are you even familiar with Jehovah’s Witnesses? Do you know of the thousands of deaths that have occurred because of adherents being deceived or coerced into not taking blood transfusions? Do you know this includes children? Do you understand that former members face shunning from all their friends and families? Do you understand the pain, the heartache, the broken relationships, the resulting suicides? These are but a few of the many serious issues that this forum contends with.
Your main issue doesn’t seem JW related, but only to give ad hominem arguments against the efforts of one cult researcher and his books. The posts seem biased and the spelling detracts from the claim of being well-researched. Of course, it is in the vested interest of high control groups to refute any popular research and researchers that expose their authoritarian models.
As many cults, especially the Watchtower, have a huge legal department, both paid and an army of volunteers, it is no surprise that they can slip and slide through the court system and continue to commit human rights violations.

What Happened to the Religion I Left in 1995?
by JoshJeffries injosh here, new to the board.
glad to know this site is here.. i would not be writing this if it were not 2014. i was a ministerial servant and regular pioneer who left the jehovahs witnesses back in 1995/96, around that time.
i left suddenly, didnt fade away, just left when something clicked one day in my head during the morning shower and made me realize this religion wasnt true.

That's true. Are we talking Jehovah's Witnesses the Religion or Jehovah's Witnesses as individuals?
I would have a difference answer for each.

I'm with OneEyedJoe on this one. I couldn't say it any better. A picture is worth a thousand words.
