  in the last 4 months my eyes have been opened to ttatt, my biggest issue is that the elders have been grooming me to appoint me as an elder.

  Forgive my ignorance. What would be the problem with stating simply, "I'm not interested in being an elder." If they press the issue, follow up with, "Please respect my decision."

  Forgive my ignorance as well because that is exactly what I'm thinking.

  I don't know what it is that people still think that they have to turn themselves in knots and continue to jump through fiery hoops whenever an JW elder wants to ask them a question.

  NO!!.....is still a perfectly good answer when someone is asking you to do something you don't think is wise or good for you.

  ....and if they continue to press.....

  just ask them what part of NO!!! did they not understand.

  I remember being at a relative's house with some JW's in attendance. Around the corner was a place where they practiced Islam....can't think of what they call them now.

  I guess the services was over and the muslims were walking home. Me with a group of JW relatives were standing outside. One of them, young and still aglow and wet behind the ears from a recent baptismal dunking proclaimed loudly, "Look at all of those worldly people worshipping the devil!".

  I shot this person, her family, and me wife the most disgusted look I could muster.

  I'm sure, by now, that the little twit has learned to more carefully verbalize their thoughts.

  College Degree Required

  Finishing my MS degree this summer.

  I saw this trend coming 20 years ago and tried to talk to my JW wife about it to get her serious about working towards an employable future. She would have none of it and sided with the JW elders who sat in my living room and berated me for not putting kingdom interests first by spending the time I was spending in school pursuing an AA degree in the door to door service.

  If it weren't for that decision I made all those years ago, we'd both be pounding the pavement in minimun wage jobs and struggling to live paycheck to paycheck now instead of her not having to work at all for the past 15 years and us living in a house that could fit inside it both houses of the elders who were telling me that I was wasting my time.

  Double Standard re: Baptism

  i was speaking to my mother earlier this week, and she was mentioning about someone in her hall that was in the hospital.

  this person was never mentally "present" even prior to getting baptized.

  my mom said out of the blue "why would they allow someone who is mentally incoherent to make such a serious commitment as baptism?".

  Yes....that does make since.

  I remember before baptism being asked if I had any affiliation with the church of my youth. I t hought the question odd, but then the elders I was studying with started talking about me writing a letter denouncing membership. I never did write a letter. Through the whold of that process I was wondering what the big fuss was about.

  The WT has a sly way of isolating you from everyone that will possibly clue you iin that they are a cult. They are very adept at isolating you from even your own conscious in favor of following every word they say as if it was from god himself.

  I've already heard my wife speculating that he is hiding something because Popes usually die in office. She went on to mention how the catholic c hurch has been rocked by sexual scandals.

  we made eye contact, but i hope i didn't glare at her or anything... since i was already having a bout with depression today, it didn't help to see her.

  JW businessman's email about the UN and false religion

  i was shown a hard copy of an email from a purported jw businessman who claimed he had contact with some un officials as part of his 'business'.

  in conversation, he claimed that he blurted out and asked them when they were going to clamp down on religion as foretold in jw prophecy.

  according to the account, the un official acted startled, and asked 'how do you know?'.

  The one guy was trying really hard to relate to me, while the other one was getting frustrated that i wouldnt see things his way.
