officer who shot him aug. 11 outside a 7-eleven in south salt lake wasnt white.. race bias ???.

as some may remember, when i started my fade, my husband freaked out and thought i was going to leave him.

he wanted to see someone about our marriage.

Isn't it a wonder how JW will compartmentalize and keep secret any development that reflects negatively upon the organization out of one side of their mouth while trumpeting the errors and issues of other religious organizations?

i think everyone here can agree that walking down the street, even in the middle of the street, is not cause for having a clip emptied in your ass......... i can understand how the black community would be outraged by the injustice of seeing another black man dead in the street at the hands of the police under mysterious circumstances....... i hope that i'm not succumbing to the attempts to assinate the already well impuned character of the dead man...... however.

i can't help but think that this could all have been avoided by exercising the proper discretion with fore-knowledge of the disadvantages people of color have when they are dealing with law enforcement in the united states.

it is not as if this disadvantage has only since recently came to light.

i think everyone here can agree that walking down the street, even in the middle of the street, is not cause for having a clip emptied in your ass......... i can understand how the black community would be outraged by the injustice of seeing another black man dead in the street at the hands of the police under mysterious circumstances....... i hope that i'm not succumbing to the attempts to assinate the already well impuned character of the dead man...... however.

I find that pretty hard to believe as well.

What got my attention was when the big guy turned back toward the shop keeper and moved toward him using his size as physical intimidation. That's practiced behavior. It's very threatening. Had I been the shop keeper I have a pretty good idea how the threat would have been resolved then and there, at the precise moment of that act of threatening behavior.

That is what got my attention as well. And, I will say without reservation that had I been the shopkeeper, he'd be in pretty much the same state he is in right now.

I get so tired of hearing the use of the "big black and threatening" excuse used in situations where it is clearly unfounded and unwarranted. And then, I see that video and am forced to conclude that had I been that shopkeeper, as a 6' 280# black man myself, I would've stopped the clock on his ass at that moment as well.

It is not as if this disadvantage has only since recently came to light. It is a uniquely condition people of color, particularly black men, have had to live in with in this country for a long time.

As a black kid growing up in the south, with strong and positive male figures in my life, I was taught and practiced making every effort not to come under the subject or scrutiny of law enforcement officials black or white. No Stealing, no drugs, and certainly not walking down the middle of the street with a handful of "cigarillos" I just stole attracting the attention of\and mouthing off at cops. Doing so would have garnered me a grade "A" ass whipping when I got home.

Perhaps I am just out of touch and looking through this situation through the lense of a middle aged man living a middle class law trouble free lifestyle.

What say you all?

August vacations cancelled

had a vacation planned for august, but got the rug pulled out from under my feet.

hubby said he wanted to go in september, but gave me no reason.

i finally told him i knew he had to pioneer in august.

A llittle bit more about how I went about it.......without divulging too much info........

I imagine one of the reasons why this was so effective for me was because I am the sole breadwinner in the house.....and, as she so eloquently puts it after eschewing education all her JW life and with little real professional job history she can put on a resume, she doesn't want a pissant job where she is spending all her money getting back and forth to work and taking time away from jehovah........YMMV.

But, I digress.

I told him if Jehovah and the bible tell you to pioneer in August then that's what you have to do. His reply, never said one word but had a big smile on his face.

OMG.......you totally capitulated...gave him everything he wanted to hear......those are the golden words every JW with an unbelieving spouse wants to hear. There will be Artic temperatures in hell and we'll be going our separate ways before my wife ever hear me say something like that.

That being said, for me I ignored all of her scheduled JW activities and just started scheduling vacation activities. Her first protests were about me just doing this to get in the way of her JW activities.......how she has to put kingdom interests first.....veiled innuendo about me possibly cheating or seeing someone else.......blah....blah....blah......pack your bags...we're going on a guilt trip!!!!! She even pulled out the "get thee behind me Satan scripture or something to that effect before hurriedly backtracking and explaining that she wan't exactly calling me Satan but trying to e xplain to me that she had what she thought was more important things to do. Fine....have it your way.......I wasn't going to be baited into an arguement.

On the days our trips were to begin, if she wasn't ready to go, I left without her. The first trip I sporadically contacted her. The second trip I was in total incognito.

Upon my return she was expecting a minite by minute review of how the trips went, what I did on them and where I went.....not because she wanted to hear about any good times I had or the sites I'd seen, but questioning in a way that indicated that she was looking for something I may have did wrong or that I wouldn't have done had she been there........

You know, questioning in that prosecutorial way JWs do when all they want to do is counter and argument, win a debate, or attempt to claim the high ground in any discussion.

......to which my response was, if you were really interested in the trip you would've went with me. I am not going to sit here and account for all the time just so you can look for something in it to pick apart.

I haven't had a problem with her thinking I'm inclined or will even submit to scheduling vacation and holiday activities around her jw schedule since.

Tell him "tough" and go away on your own. He should be putting you first, not the sodding GB.

It took me doing this a couple of times before my wife finally got the point that I would no long live in the shadow of her beloved GB and the organization. She missed a couple of great trips to the west coast.

By the time I got around to scheduling Hawaii......she got the point REAL quick!!!!!

Will soon be taking over the financial affairs of an elderly relative myself soon.

Can't say much more than that as I would have to divulge too much information, however, a cursory look through her accounts revealed monthly payments to the WT as well which will come to a screeching halt.

Free money I've seen going to her crackhead daughter will be cut off as well.
