Great visit with my cousin/best friend yesterday....
by AK - Jeff inhe made an appointment with me to discuss pre-need funeral arrangements - he is a funeral director now.
i agreed and he came to my home for the first time since we left borgland three years back.
in fact he had never seen our home, since we moved in the meantime.. we discussed the business at hand and then spent several hours talking about my leaving the organization, his attitudes toward me and that, the un scandal, and a few other matters of that sort.

Years ago, Brothers would take years to build a hall. I know, I worked on ours for over two years every weekend! Nobody was in any hurry either, as it sure beat going out in service! And we still got to count our time. I think the Society finally figured that out and so went for the 'quick builds' to get the boys back to selling literature on the weekends!
Of course it made the local newspapers, so yes a little PR was accomplished too. But a lot of people were hurt in the construction too as it was done way too fast for safety to be an issue. But 'all is vanity' and what's the purpose of it all, certainly no hurry because the end was coming quickly!

Penton's book is poorly referenced: Apocalypse Unsubstantiated!
by slimboyfat inof course it goes without saying that penton's apocalypse delayed is the best history of jehovah's witnesses we have (though timothy white's would be the best apart from its age), but i am continually frustrated by his lack of references for key claims.
here is an example where he is talking about reports of drinking in bethel:drinking, then, almost became part of the cult of machismo into which the new workers were quickly inducted.

Business Territory???
by unique1 inok, i work in a growing dowtown area of nc.
last week i took somethings to get them printed around the corner and noticed a wt and awake on the sidewalk.
i figured someone dropped it or it fell out of a book bag or something and thought nothing of it.

When we saw the magazines in hospital lobbys, laundramats, etc. we never threw them away. We had some big 'press apply' stickers, bright pink, made that said, EXAMPLE OF CULT LITERATURE. They stood out like a sore thumb!
