At least we know your parents weren't writing YOUR talks for you!

on your way out, did you have the 'talk' with an elder?
(or elders?
) the kind of, 'excuse me, brother only-elder-who-i-really-trust, i've been having serious doubts about such-and-such and i would really appreciate it if you could help me see if i'm missing something, i sincerely want to know...'.
I talked to the elders, Moxy.
I had handed in my DA letter, the entire body met first, and then 3 stayed to meet with me. After some discussion, where I tiptoed around my "issues", they asked me to "withdraw" my request for a period of a month, during which time (since I still professed to believe much of what the Society taught) I should -- SO PREDICTABLY! -- prepare for and attend meetings, pray, and engage in personal Bible study. They didn't seem to have "heard" that it was personal Bible study that made me distressed about things in the first place (disfellowshipping a la Somebody's story above, for instance). They didn't suggest field service, since I had already told them that because of the "generation" change (and personal Bible study!) I no longer felt that the Society was THE "Spiritual Ark" and thus no longer felt the need or desire to invite people to get inside.
They gave me a current magazine to study about "Doubts." As a well-trained, theocratic JayDub, I actually agreed to withdraw my letter.
(Talk about conditioning!!!!)
Anyway, the short of it is that I studied the requested article, which suggested: Prayer, personal study, meeting attendance and field service (SURPRISE!) as means to combat Scriptural doubts. Of course, that was NOT my problem, it was the matters-where-the-Bible-is-silent and the WTBTS pronounced that I was having problems with. So I attended Sunday's WT study and met with two of the elders thereafter to inform them of something, but also to ask questions that were raised for me DURING the WT study just concluded.
The manner in which they answered, and their reaction to my reaction to the article they had asked me to study, clearly demonstrated to me that they were not really interested in anything I had to say and that they would be protecting the WTBTS' interests no matter what. Upon reflection, I phoned the P.O. that evening and requested that my DA letter stand as written. That after reviewing the information on apostasy that he had recommended (for clarification) my reaction was that the first century congregation would have LET ME GO! My gut feeling was that what the elders were attempting to do was to set me up as "unrepentant" so that they could DF me after the month was up (unless, of course, I towed the line), which would look better for the Society than Sister Always-Prepared deciding to disassociate.
Next Thursday, I walked. A BIG weight off my shoulders! And freedom to love the people I love (if they'll only let me!) and to [i]joyfully[i] worship a God of love!

logical,
You seem to have missed that the sister was already "planning to leave with a great exit". This scenario, of course, would have to be for one who already had "counted the cost."

Man, oh, Man! I wish I had thought about doing that for MY last talk!
I walked out after DA'ing myself with a grin on my face and a song in my heart that left the friends "scratching their heads" as one DF'd person in attendance just mentioned the other day, but I would MUCH rather have made a statement like that!
But wouldn't both sisters need to be in cahoots for this to really work? Or else the householder could just spring the questions on the unsuspecting sister?

OK, Stephanus,
Reaction, please?

a very good friend of mine whos also a professor of english literature and humanities at a large, well-known university is also a libertarian!
he is quite a remarkable person, who has written extensively on many and varied subjects including a book on the titanic disaster, ayn rand, jehovahs witnesses, and isabel paterson, a contemporary of ayn rand.
he knows more about jws than even most informed apostates, although he has never been a jw.
I signed on, glanced around, and said to myself, Let's see what Farkel has posted!
And I was not disappointed!
These are true gems and make me want to visit the library to read Paterson immediately! But as the library is closed, I think I'll just have to re-read what's here!
Thanks for sharing,

can you spot the wt double speak in the two faq's?.
or anyone else like to comment?
(not open to fred, coz we've heard it all before!).
I think I am going to type up the answer to the shunning question, enlarge it onto an 8x10 sheet of paper, encase it in a plastic sleeve, and carry it around in my purse so that every time I meet up with a member of my former congregation I can whip it out and pin it to my chest before I politely approach them and say, "Hello, _____. Nice to see you. Fabulous weather we're having, isn't it?"
(I DA'd myself -- so nobody need fear that I was "expelled for serious unchristian conduct"!)
It is to laugh!

Stephanus,
Remind me again WHY you are looking into Jehovah's Witnesses and now about to attend a KH? Is there an intro thread somewhere that I should read?
Or is your intention to lay waste to the friends with small doses of doubt producing questions?
Otherwise, my advice is "DON'T GO!"
and if you must for some unfathomable reason? Take NoDoz(tm) before you do!

the circuit servant's coming soon, and when he asks i'll have to say.

i think a lot of space is wasted in arguments that get personal.
we are a varied bunch and i think that variety is good.
i dont want to discourage anyone from posting but personal attacks ( justified or not) dont achieve anything.
baja,
I did not say "don't post any smart-ass remarks", I merely suggested counting to 10 first. If one counts, and then still thinks the smart-ass retort is the correct thing, then by all means, feel FREE. I very much value my newfound freedom of expression, I wouldn't dream of censoring anyone elses'!
Had Enough?
Thanks for your support. I often find myself agreeing with your posts and never more so than now, when you're agreeing with mine!
