Shepherd,
It was 1968. That was a pretty big deal at the time depending on what part of the county you were from. I know of brothers in the 70's who performed mixed race weddings and got threats from the brothers in the hall.
i arrived at bethel in december of 1968 on a cold night.
i had the taxi drop me off at the old columbia heights building.
the door was locked so i knocked and was reluctantly allowed in by another bethelite.

Today I learned the GB was pretty openly racist back in the day.
hey all, i am a little new here so forgive me if i am posting in the wrong section.
i am doing a little project and am trying to find "doomsday covers" that portray people being destroyed at armageddon.
i am mainly interested in covers that have watchtower on them.

I am doing a little project and am trying to find "doomsday covers" that portray people being destroyed at Armageddon. I am mainly interested in covers that have WatchTower on them. I don't have any of my old bound volumes, I think the only books left in my house are Insight on the Scriptures, my old pioneer book and my old bethel book.
Thanks!
since half of them ended up at my house on friday and saturday nights i was given a very shining report card.
he then told me that he would knock on my door bright and early in the morning to take me to breakfast with him and his wife.
a couple of them told they enjoy the articles i write in the art magazines and they were really happy to meet me.
whoa.

interesting article about a character on the show "community" that is apparently a jw.
also there are a ton of apologists in the comments section.
This is hillarious:
what is your take on players in all sports who feel the need to connect their athleticism with god's will.
tebow of the denver broncos is the latest in a long line of players who either thank jesus or point a finger to heaven when they score a touchdown or slam some guys head into a concussion.. oddly you don't see bowlers doing the same praise jesus dance for knocking over some pins, i guess its not that exciting to jesus .
Isnt there an upcoming watchtower article that discourages football. Also i believe at the elders schools and CO visits that they are pushing elders to not watch football. Soon appointed men will be removed for watching football.
UFC is still ok though right? :)
i used to be just like many of you---i was scared to read/hear/see anything that didn't put the jw's in a positive light.
i was raised as a witness and believed everything they taught wholeheartedly and 110%.
don't let other poster's or even the jw's discourage you from investigating the 'truth' about the watchtower society.
Thanks for the heartfelt words QE.
as 2011 will be drawing to a close in less than four weeks from now, we thought it would be a good opportunity to have one final push for responses at the global online survey.. the survey, unless you were unaware, can be found at www.jwsurvey.org.
some of you might be interested in a brief review of how the survey is doing as things stand.
here are the results as of the end of november:.
Just took it.
i just found out that one of my coworkers is a witness.. it got me thinking about my past jobs.
in four out of the last five jobs i've held i have worked with witnesses.
it got me pretty paranoid at times because i was a classic "double-lifer".
Quite a few. One of em is inactive too and he reads this forum. He was the one who loaned me CoC.
well, my husband's worst fear has happened.
he told his kids, ages 15 and 10 that he was coming to visit them over the holidays.
his ex-wife limits his telephone contact to one call per week, so when he called them last week to arrange the specific days he would see them, his son told him that he got baptized back in september and would no longer be willing to see his father.. this came as a complete shock.
My mother used to get upset when people at doors would say "I hear your religion drives families apart." She denies it. She thinks it makes for strong families.
Untill you disagree and are shunned forever. This makes me so sad.
