adam lived 930 years methusaleh 969, noah 600 or so, but the psalms say a man's age will be 70 or 80. the explanation for shorter live span today is more imperfection, but why would man live so long for the first 2500 years and then drop to 70 or 80 in david's time and then stabilize at that age for the next 3500 years?

Actually, many Bible scholars now conclude that the 900 yrs meant the lunar calendar or 900 moons (which were used to count time before the Roman calendar) which would equal 68.75 years (using the lunar year of 13 months) which would still be an abnormally aged person in antiquity.

Since Moses was not a single real person but a composite of people the books accorded to him were written many centuries later, so it's easily deduced that those characters who inhabit the world of the Sinai are equally mythical. Almost like what we'd call folk heros today.

As for peoples ages today, we are living much longer than our ancestors. In fact according to written history, for the last 16,000 years most humans never made it past age 30 (and that was old).

remember the english girl babysitter who was supposed to have murdered that little baby?

the court case was on live tv everyday (like ojsimpson).

i watched both and was convinced of ojs guilt but was also convinced of lwoodwoods innocence.

Guilty --- looked like a normal person but she was definitely guilty. Even Ted Bundy's parents and friends refused to believe this wonderful young man could be a serial killer, but he was. OJ was guilty too. Even those jurors know that now. The nanny got off because England is America's friend.

Tink, Ravyn and Special K, I am so sorry you've had these tragedies in your family.

I agree that the WTS bears responsibility for placing men in the position of counselor when they have no training. The WTS has ignored the mental needs of the other sheep since it's inseption (sp?).

I am wondering about this family though. One article mentioned that he had become more actively religious recently. So I see this guy pushing to meet higher standards of dubdom maybe reaching out for MS or the big E. Anything to keep his wife happy. They've been fighting, he said she was cheating on him. We don't know about that yet. Killing the son was a punishment to the wife, but he [the father]selfishly ignored the kids interests completely. And the gun? I know many JWS with hand guns and many more with rifles. Heck he'd probably threatened her before with it. In fact I don't think she realized the danger her son was in because as many here have said, his threats had been made before.

So what if she was having an affair? It seems to me that is often the reason for this type of control freak murder suicide. It's like "Ok you don't want me, you don't get my piano playing genius kid either." The congregation will make all kinds of supositions. People will begin to avoid her, because, well something bad about a woman whose husband kills himself and his child. And if she did have a boyfriend --- they'll ~~crucify~~ nail her.

And as far as depression if you're a Jdub --- well my experience was that when I was going for psychotherapy and the doc put me on meds the Elders were concerned over my spirituality (I also began school at this time). My husband offered to step down. Eventually one brother elder brought up that maybe Nick needed to be removed. Thankfully he was there to hear this, and reminded them that he had offered to step down. Without the support of my husband and psychiatrist I would have eventually completed the deed. I saw many women borg who were committing passive suicide... WTS is no way to live.

please remove me from this site, i am tired of the sarcasm and the insults simply because i choose to believe in god after leaving the borg.

i am beginning to believe that the borg was a better place than this site because i never once endured what i have had to endure here with certain individuals.

it seems that it is ok for some to criticize others here but when you stand up for what you believe in the shit just gets deeper.

KGB, If you've decided to leave then I wish you the best. I hope making the break from here will give you what you need. If you don't get to read all of the posts sent to you, then that's your choice (which is a good thing).

We are all here to support one another for having left the WTS. Many here have lost friends and relatives to the cult of a publishing company. Finding our ways out have taken strength and courage. The fact that we have different religious views and express them is a big part of our new religious freedom. Or maybe you really don't feel this way. The nice thing is you don't have to agree. It doesn't matter. and as far as debate, I see that as a real treasure trove of information.

I know that sometimes it is easier for the ladies here to say "I'm sad", "I had a bad day", "I hate not having money"... you know stuff guys don't usually start talking about. So maybe answer some of those threads. Or stick to those you agree with. Maybe this isn't a good time for you to deal with debate. One thing for sure, the WTS R&F don't get to debate doctrine, or the Bible. Their lives are pretty much under control (if you follow the rules).

Wasasister, I just read this post and I amso very very sorry you have to deal with the feelings of loss. Theives, assholes what is wrong with these young guys? They can pick their way through the electronics and disconect and they can't look in a jewlry box and think "I'll only get $2.00 for this" and leave it? And do these guys ever get caught? Not that you'll ever know or ever get your stuff back.

Again I'm sorry this happened to you and your family.

i went to the 3rd church that i've ever stepped foot into after leaving the borg 3 years ago.

so, as i'm standing there (in the front row, i might add) for the musical worship portion of the service.. i felt like a big idiot.

Keeping Up With The FACADE,How Long?

how many of you have had to keep up the facade on the outside,while on the inside you were dying?.

the facade being putting on a happy face in front of the elders and others while knowing what you know about the society and all the harm it has done.. how long did you keep up this facade before it began to affect your well-being?.

for me it lasted about a couple of years before i started to do the fade and have started to feel better.. blueblades

I'm not sure how long it was, but I remember I had a hard time staying awake for meetings. I started to miss bookstudy because that was on Sat morning and then we'd go out in service. Next Thursdays missing because of school. Most of the time I really tried to avoid the R&F because they just wondered what was wrong, why did I miss meetings. OH and how about all of those invitations to field service. I recall a really nice sister asking me to come and explain the "dates" to a bible study. Well, I thought I'd just bust at the seams over that. Hey Yeah I'll explain it! I'd have to say it took from 1992 until 1997. I just couldn't even fake affection when I knew how badly I wanted to tell my friends about "the False." So yeah it's hard. I don't know how still ...elder does it, I'd have a tough time .

LOL I thought the exact same thing!!! I sure would rather live NOW. just the smell must've been awful. Yuck.

I think Little Italy is named for it's large number of Italian immigrants. Every year Little Italy (which you could see in Godfather II) has the SanGenero festival. Now it's a tourist thing. But While I was growing up it was a full blown Italian Catholic jamboree --- food statues money gifts wine food wine food..The Bowery was full of the poor, but maybe more Jewish there after the pogroms in Russia (before the USSR). And Brooklyn was full of immigrants. Before the Brooklyn bridge the only way to get there was by boat. So most cemetaries were located there.

Say do you remember that cemetary at the end of Gangs of NewYork? I've been wondering about that this week. When I get to the library I'll see what I can find. Makes me feel like the Alienist detectives. Even my husband (Nick) who does not LOVE history really thought Gangs was a great film. He also especially appreciated the Daniel Day Lewis character.

Athiests use the Bible to discredit the supposed author of said tome, God. Just as we all use WTS publications to discredit their deceptions and crimes.

However, you may be interested in reading Thomas Paine's Age of Reason. In this work he claims that the Bible does NOT properly represent God. That men wrote the Bible first to give themselves a national history and later as promoters of a new religion. When you consider Paine's era (late 18th and early 19th centuries) his enlightened Bible knowledge will astound you. This was an era inwhich educated men read Greek and Latin, spoke French and English and Italian, Anyway, you may find yourself in agreement with him. And remember Paine was a believer.

Another good book if you want to just talk about God or god is the Pulitzer prize winner God a Biography. Published I think around 1997 or 98.

Believe me there is nothing convenient or easy about atheism. Everyone wants to "aid" the atheist to a relationship with God. I've never run into an atheist who was hell bent on convincing me to forget my beliefs. Atheism , is a deep and heart felt acceptance of the facts. As you know facts are not easily accepted when they brush our deep seated beliefs aside. I remember when I had to admit to myself that tree or stake it didn't matter. Or the dietary issue of blood had nothing to do with modern medicine. Those were deep beliefs. (well maybe not the blood so much). Or what about people who believe that any medicine is against faith in god and prayer? I mean if you believe in prayer then don't you enable those folks to reject medicine for their children?
