I heard this around 1979 in Brooklyn from a sister my husband and I were in service with one Sunday after the meeting. She told us it was really true and happened near there... go figure... I believed her at the time.

i received this at work the other day.
it was sent to myself and quite a few others who work in my department via email.. i have to say, it sounded an awful lot like a story i heard from some dubs.. i just thought it was interesting.................dubs always take everything as their own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
cheers, bliss.

dr. lawrence britt has examined the fascist regimes of hitler (germany), mussolini (italy), franco (spain), suharto (indonesia) and several latin american regimes.
britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:
1. powerful and continuing nationalism - fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia.
Yep, Sounds like Suharta et all to me.
i guess because there are so few brothers in the congregations, sisters start writing to brothers that are in prison.
in prison, these ne'er do wells have no bills, no job to commute to, 3 meals, a bed, free medical insurance and loads of time to read the bible and the wts publications.
oh my, kinda like bethel.
Before his execution, Ted Bundy got marrried and fathered at least one child while in prison in Florida.
.
i just thought about it.. bradley
Bradley of the I just thought about it kind.... that has a ring to it.
Yeah all dubs need a time out to become a human individual again. Get some reading and thinking done to get those little grey cells hummin'.
For me it was similar. I started college, found new interesting people to talk to and learn from, got into therapy and ***BAM ***I discovered a road "and only stopped to rest myself when the silver moon shined over me." James Taylor
i have not posted in several months..........way too much emotionally for me to deal with everything, since my family is all "in the truth" and i am the black sheep
well here is my dilemma.........we are going to celebrate halloween with the kids on friday
there are several in the congregation who still call me to do their hair.........i don't want to do it anymore, but don't know how to tell them as many of them are elderly and i love them dearly.......i don't want to hurt them, ya know?
Since your Dad is an elder he will be saying stuff like "I'll take care of talking to her etc". That'll last until the next CO visit when some disgruntled brother says "elder so and so's daughter is apostate." Then if they call or come to the door just remember there is no reason to let them into the house. That you will speak to them only with your lawyer present, and a taping of the interview. Any committee meeting will likewise be conducted.
What year were you baptised? Your youth may preclude any vow as legal. Also if you pledged allegiance to god and not the borg you can use that as a legal out and they can't disfellowship you. Don't talk to them w/o a lawyer. Just do what you're doing, enjoy your life.
I da'd and my husband faded, each worked best for us individually.
BTW --- Hi from Kenedy Texas
i know this subject has been done before, but.... some words we used as jws have a different meaning to us, even now.
encourage, truth, witness, apostate, worldly... .
so how did those words get so loaded?
misplaced expectations!!!!!! The expectations have always been placed on the WTS literature. But they never admit to misplaced odd ball theories to destroy people. Formerly cherished views --- don't you want to puke on this stuff. Yeah they are saying that the R/F got it all wrong ... too bad, now listen to our latest crank idea.
I still get the skipped beat from certain towerisms. But the I realised that the jw writers have actually plagerized "worldly" sources. Peace and Security, New World Order and probably others were grabbed from early 20th century speeches and headlines. The were statements by statesmen and judges, not the annointed GB. So now I'm thinking that is we were better educated to our history then these statements would not conjure WTS thoughts.
This is a great thread, thanks from Panda
most of you will remember the story that came out at the beginning of august (this year) dealing with anthony burton, who barged into a jw service, and robbed the congregation at samurai sword point.
well, he received 5 years, a fitting halloween sentence.
see "5 years for church heist.
Will he be given psychiatric attention? his meds? He may come out of this a happier person. He'll have a good book done by the time he's out.

here's an extract from an october 15, 2003 watchtower article on self-control:.
can anyone say: "same ol', same ol'"?
I agree with the idea that temptation lies in the taboo. Basically even private pleasures are taboo for JW's, so seeing those freely engaged in would make this guy's temp rise. But we don't need to feel sorry for him because I'm sure he doesn't exist. The WTS makes this stuff up. And how's he gonna pay for that credit card bill from assembly attendance is he's not makin' the dough?
Lies.

OWH and Bradley --- what a pair.
Yes I agree that understanding is worth the pain of "complexity." But then we're at another simplicity before another complexity... IMO that makes life worth living. Never stop questioning and learning and experiencing and experimenting.
Otherwise: Nothing doesn't exist, that's why it's nothing. The hypothetical construct of zero is not measurable, therefore zero. That's why we often must use an absolute value to measure less than zero. Heck, the square root of -1 is called "i" an imaginary number . But we've got loads of space btwn zero and one to express <1. Physicists tell us that magnetism and gravity are the energy responsible for black holes, stars, planets, big bangs, electron orbits, polarity , ion drive (you get the picture). So again there is no real silence. And a tabula rasa is still a tabula.
If I may quote Occam, "What is, is possible."
