Court Reporter & Dumb Lawyers
by Angharad innot sure if this has been posted before, but it made me laugh .
these are from a book called disorder in the american courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.. .
q: what is your date of birth?.

Next WT Study....... Alcohol!!!
by Doubtfully Yours init should be most interesting.
1 out of 3 in my actual congregation has a heavy drinking problem.
i'd say that's the 'sin' that is way, way overlooked by the wtbts.

How I remember!!! The last congregation I was in (Bulverde Tx) had a mean alcoholic problem. One of my best friends there died from complications which her family insisted were not alcohol related. It was so sad. Her elder husband used to say "well I mark her bottles to see how much she drinks" I just about spit tacks over that one. And the DO had to get involved with getting this other elder from having drunken orgies. Yet, another elders wife got drunk and a young brother drove her home and ... well, you guessed it. But she wasn't df'd just a "I'm so sorry and mortified". Notice I'm talking about all elders and their families... so holy yet with a hollow leg.

I took the "1914 Generation" prophecy seriously. Did you?
by nicolaou ini was born in 1964, a convenient 50 years after 1914. even in my early teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured that i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

I was baptised in 1978 and wholly believed in the 1914 date. But didn't find it hard to give that up. (along with everything else)

The statement that killing is wrong, because killing is wrong is some kind of red herring of philosophy. Basically it's just a simpley put non-answer. No substance whatsoever. Why? because killing is not wrong. We kill to eat, we kill everytime we flush a toilet, and we kill for oil to run our vehicles. The killing which is punishable by death is usually a premeditated and selfish act.
Why keep mentioning China along with Iran and Saudi Arabia? We are talking about extremely different justice systems. The Muslim countries will cut off the hand of a thief. Not the hand which he stole with but the hand which he eats with. As a muslim he now is unable to eat bwcause he only has an unclean hand. Sounds cruel and unusual to me. The reason AI is involved is because of the treatment of the women who are murdered for dating or some other crock of crap from the Quran. An example, if you are a Chinese citizen and you rape or molest someone, you get the death penalty. It is enacted quickly (so no cruelly long prison life) and then everyone gets on with their life. In China everyone gets to know how quickly justice is meted out, and so there the death penalty does curb crimes. In the US the amount of time and $$$ spent on appeals (and meals) is cruel to victims families.
In the US every prisoner is allowed to get an education... even those on death row. From personal experience with ex-prisoners I can tell you that once they get out many often do not continue their studies. But maybe death row inmates are different? I don't know.
I live near 3 prisons. Recently, the warden from one prison called me to translate for a prisoner. I was not allowed anywhere near this guy. I had to translate over the phone. But just by the way he acted and tried to manipulate me and the authorities (and some other things he said) I could see why it was safer for me to be unseen. If you haven't been around prisons and the criminals inside I guess you'll never see what we are locking up. Although I hear that women's prisons are a lot better.

Texas Drawl ...
by Panda inok i read about a study involving but not all encompassing the texas drawl.
so what do you think --- is the texas drawl a good way to hide an intellect?
-
Panda
Under74, If you are from Eastern Washington you have a midwest drawl which most northerners can't tell from a Texas drawl. People in the north think southerners are stupid. They call southerners by durogatory names (red neck, toothless hick, racist, bible thumper) you've heard it all. I think that it may be political jealousy (most US Presidents have been southern boys) Just remember all of those early Virginians!
So I think that folks expect less from Texans in the way of "brains" but if that's all it takes to fool a Yankee why haven't we invaded the north again just to see how it'd go? I believe most generals and admirals are still southern ... I guess that the Texas drawl also hides heroism.

Yep JimTex
It's gotta be one or the other.
My niece at the age of about 3 began to have imaginary friends named BillyJo, Bobby Jo, and Betty Jo (yes her parents did watch Petticote Junction) Well Eileen began to realise that she could blame her mistakes and accidents on her "friends" because she was cute and smart enough to do it she got away with kid stuff. So sometimes we don't need great granpaw to tell us to blame him, and then again sometimes we do need him.

Of course... I only type with an accent
. Hey, Jim-Tex how do you type with an accent?
CG --- c'omon you have afew other dipthongs thrown in with your drawl!
And YES our Brit bros. we do speak with an accent. Many linguists believe that the accent spoken in the southern states is very close to the spoken 17th century English in YESSSSS England!

No more meetings for me!
by cyberguy inwell, after being out-of-town for nearly 2 months, i?ve decided i can no longer go to any meetings after returning home (not that i was going to that many beforehand).
i?m not sure what is happening to me, but i?ve actually developed an aversion to anything "watchtower!
" i cannot even read the literature, including current awake and watchtower magazines, without getting extremely nauseous!

Cyberguy, Well I don't remember my last meeting. Maybe because I wasn't around much anyway. I stuck to it mainly because my husband was an elder. But even that wasn't enough after awhile. But then my husband "stepped down" and I was so fed up I joyfully wrote my DA letter and was not sick at all.
