I believed that with special knowledge from the WTS I could save other people through Bible study. If they failed to get the message, no matter how much I liked them I believed I would stand by and watch their destruction w/o feelings.

by TheCoolerKing inwhat was the biggest "secret" that you kept from everyone when you were a witness?.

Maybe it's just me but, have you ever thought that the WTS reads stuff like this thread and then say 'Well of course they were never really in the truth, those sinners and apostates never belonged in J's organisation...blah blah blah.' Or maybe this is where they get material for CO's talks on "local problems", which are of course adapted to mean everywhere.
When Mr.Panda was alive we did whatever it took to "keep our love alive". God I miss that man.

objectivism (i.e. viewing selfishness as a virtue), or believing that just because the world is a naturally cruel place, it must always remain that way.
In Dawkins book The Selfish Gene, "selfish" is the way of evolution (punctuated equilibrium), selfishness is why we are driven to reproduce so that our DNA can continue. While there aren't any genes specifically for things like selfishness, avarice, greed etc., we are driven (physically)to continue existence. For humans, selfish replication involves hormones (estrogen and testosterone) we are driven to copulate and continue our line of modern humans. But what are we except big bags of water to carry DNA into the necessary chemical reactions for life?
I don't see Dawkins saying anything positive about religious morality. Morality is anathema to religious doctrine. It's all about control and forcing people to view superstition as the reason to do good. Humans had been cooperating for tens of thousands of years before the idea of commandments from the ether claimed THOU SHALT do this and such. Modern humans wouldn't exist without that early human cooperation and community. I believe this is the selfish virtue Dawkins talks about. Putting yourself in harms way is actually justification for the selfish virtue. We will continue to live because of anothers sacrifice. But, a sacrifice to wash away some man made god's fantasy of evil would not help any society to continue or thrive.
Recently Stanley Fish wrote" [that] The truth claims of a religion are not incidental to its identity, they are it's identity."

The biggest villain isn't even on the list. Jehovah is the controlling freak dreamed up by a bunch of desert nomads. Heck place the blame where it belongs.

Do you think Hillary Clinton is going to be the next President of the USA?
by free2beme ini have a mix of friends from democrat to republican.
i am a registered independent myself.
i have heard it said, and watched in the news the obvious moves by the democrats, to put this woman in place to run for the office of president.

Bill Clinton had a very successful Presidency. If he campaigns hard enough for Hillary she might win. It would be great to have a well educated woman President.
Dr.Rice is much much too smart to run for President. She has seen the job and probably wouldn't like the headaches and the popularity contests on a daily basis. If she ran I'd vote for her. If Hillary runs I'll vote for her.
Why is it that the nation of Chile (supposedly behind us) has elected a woman president. She speaks 6 languages; is well educated and travelled AND hold your breath she's a single Mom! What is wrong with the American mindset that half the population is ignored for the most important office on the planet? Shouldn't we want the best?

Muslims demonstrate that they are not violent by firebombing churches
by Elsewhere inas i said in another post: actions speak louder than words.
muslims were angered by the pope's quoting a 14th century writer who said that muslims are violent in nature.. in order to disprove this statement many muslims took too the streets shouting violent slogans and burned an effigy of the pope.
still more muslims demonstrated that they are not violent by firebombing random churches.. yup... actions speak louder than words.

Mohammedanism is yet an extension of earlier patriarchal religions. They like fundy christians hate women and treat women as non-humans, very ignorant. They haven't had their reformation or renaissance. Maybe they will and everything will calm down. But I say that the religious leaders should be held responsible for inciting this jihad in the first place. Afterall, should the Mohammedan population become educated and lose their superstitions those guys would be out of a job! I'll have to say that ignorance leads to all the other roots of evil.

Ya' know someone mentioned that our pets are like family, that was true for Nick and I , our critters were our family. I'm not sure if I want to stay out here anymore. I used to revel in the wild animals, but now thay just seem like a hinderance to peace. When we had 2 or 3 dogs the coyotes would stay away and we had the best population of barn cats around. Now that my remaining dog sticks with me like glue he isn't out often enough to scare coyotes away. He wakes me up at night just to check on me. Shoot I used to do that to Nick sometimes! Did her learn it from me. Love is a great and a horrible thing.

Changes at NY Bethel
by architect inlast dec 2005, the ny bethel gave talks indicating that they had to downsize (word is mine) due to "improved technology" and that as a result of this simplification some bethel family members would be invited to serve in the united states field in various assignments at various congregations where the excellent training they have recieved at bethel could be put to use and contribute much to the preaching and disciple making work.. what do you make of this?.
i wonder how they would determine who stays or goes?.
are there any former bethel members out there who can comment on rather this would be an easy transistion for those who have to leave?.

Czar, This is why I love you . MArriage and fatherhood have given you a real sense of humor. Thank the Princess and Czarina for their influence.
I do feel for these expendables from Bethel. They certainly expected to be there for life. Now I wonder if they'll really get more involved in FS OR if they'll fade? Maybe (and this would be great) they'll take a step back and view the borg from the outside. Wait a minute (they'll say) this doesn't quite look right anymore, hmmm. No one is going to invite them to live in their homes... sheesh an extra mouth to feed and clean up after!!! How about transportation? A job? They have been told that their decision to serve at Bethel was the correct way to think, the world is ugly and selfish. Can you imagine believing that you are expected to live in Satan's world now. Bad dreams are a'comin'

I used to think I knew what BOTTOM was; now I really think I know what bottom is like. We're all sort've mourning for what's lost and may be forever lost. Your trauma is personal and no one else has experienced what you have done. But we know loss and everything that you encounter calls for your response to your loss (loss of quality of life is a real loss too).
Plato said "Courage is knowing what to fear." Don't fear the aloneness and the bill collectors. Tell them your sorrows and troubles (well to an extent) They don't enjoy their job any more than you enjoy their phone calls. Give them a chance to respond to you as human beings. Don't fear life or death. Take that next step out the door. Believe me, I do know devastation.
