if you liked the above movie you'll enjoy this book, city of eros, newyork city, prostitution, and the commercialization of sex, 1790-1920, by tj gilfoyle.. this work discusses the stages of prostitution and who made the money?

the landlords took the biggest pieces of the pie and often preferred the protitutes who could pay their rent as opposed to poor working men who couldn't.

gilfoyle describes the impact of prostitution on police, politicians, moralists, and the middle class.prostitution functioned at the nexus of social relations in the nineteenth century city.

Jessica Lynch Book Trouble

has anyone seen the news about jessica lynch's book (which isn't even written yet).

on the news last night the father of one of lynch's company of soldiers was on tv stating that since his son was part of her experience that she should share the profits from her book.

his son was killed in that battle in iraq.

many christians today use the fish symbol on their vehicles etc to show that they are christian .

(despite the actual pagan origination of said fish)?

well then came along the fish w/ "darwin" written in the center and the fish had legs.

he (obl henchman) says, "crusader america will pay dearly for any harm done to any muslim prisoners it is holding.

i've had this since feb 1999. i've been to doctors and clinics in 2 states and 2 countries.

i've had biopsies, allergy tests, blood tests (until even a vampire would pass me up for lack of blood.

Pagel's latest "Beyond Belief"

elaine pagel's recent work beyond belief, the secret gospel of thomas gives some excellent examples of questioning what we have been taught and looking into all of the interesting historically "hidden" books of christianity.

i especially appreciated her explanations of why so many interesting writings never made it into the sanctioned bible.. what i got from this book was that power is/was the road to acceptance.

the leaders of the church who were accepted by the emperor (read that as constantine) got to manipulate the holy writings into their own form.
