  so two big changes in the org were announced in the most recent agm.. local needs part is replaced by "how do you know the truth" where all members will tell their experience (oh what fun).

  basic pioneer role 10 only hours a month required (see, jehovah lightens our load, therefore he loves only us)!.

  it seems like they have really turned up the heat here.

  If this is true it's gonna give the the elders a lot more leverage to pressure people, and make coming up with excuses challenging.

  What's this about 10 hours? Are you saying that pioneers only have to get 10 hours per month now???

  The announcement was a new class of pioneer called a "basic pioneer" where you commit to 10 hours a month. I think they would still have the other classic pioneer roles, and levels of piety that go hand-in-hand.

  Gog of Magog is still SATAN!!!

  during the public discourse today the brobot talked about the gog of magog, and he stated that he was satan!!!

  i had to ask my wife if i heard him correctly, and she said yes he said it is satan.... i couldnt wait to run up to the brobot after the meeting and inform him of he "new light" we just recieved yesterday!!!

  when i approached him i asked him : what is gog of magog?

  It seems like they have really turned up the heat here. Of course the flock will misunderstand its true intent and believe that it is a blessing of a lighter load. I can only imagine the pressure that the elderoids are going to exert for everyone to pioneer. Once you have that title they have you where they want you. They will then use all these new pioneers as a goldmine for testimonials on the stage, and assemblies, about the wonderfull blessings of pioneering (awkward).

  Also, they are going to "encourage" everyone to tell their faith inspiring story at the local needs part (more awkward). If you don't participate in these activities they are probably gonna mark you as a closet apostate.

  I had a hard enough time faking it before I left 3 years ago. It seems like it is going to be very difficult to hide in plain sight now.

  kaik interesting analysis, you're right there has never been another a time in history where so much abundance exists. This abundance has everything to do with industrialization. The Brits used the tech advantage they had to conquer the world, and they did commit many immoral atrocities and exploitation of technologically inferior races in the process, It seems that the countries that really wanted to stand on their own and against the west embraced and copied the industrialization that chacterized Britain, and prospered, and continue to prosper. Had they not had any exposure to this at all though where would they have been? The price of progress was high, but the price of remaining primitive, is incalculably higher in every way. Shorter lifespan, squalor etc.

  I would even go farther and say that industrialization was probably the biggest contributing factor to bringing people out of poverty, because it is industrialization that is a major driver for abundance. In comparison though, even the poorest American’s have historically been rich by world poverty standards. I just think it’s fascinating that countries like China and India are climbing up and life is gradually getting better for the society as whole. This is in large part owed again to industrialization and capitalism. So what is preventing other countries from doing the same?

  In answer to your OP, there are other factors, such as the difficulty of growing crops in Africa compared to Europe, which made advancement more difficult, however, we have far from helped the situation.

  So it sounds like you are saying that it is the fault of the west for not doing more, correct?

  Sending money hasn’t seemed to help, and according to this article Africa could feed the world.

  Over $500 billion (U.S.) has been sent to African nations in the form of direct aid. The consensus is that the money has had little long term effect. Most of Africa's poverty can be attributed to these main things.

  • Mismanagement of land
  • Misused money on boondoggle projects and weapons instead of infrastructure
  • Disease

  Lack of cooperative infrastructure (railways between countries to transport resources effeciently etc.)

  A study of South Africa gives a history repeated around the globe.

  Can you expound on that thought a bit? What specifically are you referring to in the SA past? Because as it stands right now SA is one of the 10 richest countries in Africa, and not a third world nation.

Some have even went so far as to suggest that the first world is to blame for all third world conditions.

  I see explanations such as these for why a country hasn't provided clean water, some food, and basic sanitation for its people:

  • All of the minerals were stolen by the Anglo's, and therefore the country can't do anything about it.
  • The Anglo's setup an puppet government, and that is why the people are poor in this or that third world country many decades later

  I do concede that in some instances the interventionist and imperialistic policies of the past are directly to blame for poverty now. I do not however, buy the argument that the bulk of third world poverty was caused by the first world. In fact there were third world countries that had interference, and yet have done fantastically well by emulating ideas like capitalism from the west. Countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and even India (despite the many poor that they do have in their ranks) come to mind.

  What do you think, is the west to blame for the bulk of third world poverty or not?
