Human Insanity

is it sane to spend two trillion dollars or possibly four trillion dollars, and finish up in a worse situation, than when you started.. who could possibly be so stupid that they would do this?.

I think humans in many ways are stupid. They care more about politics and image, than doing what is the right thing to do. In this case though it was difficult to know what is the right thing to do, especially when you have more than half the country, demanding a pullout. Obama was largly elected on the mandate to pull out of Iraq, and so that is the result of a premature exit. That war should have never been started in first place, I completely agree with you that religion is very much a big part of that stupid and wasteful war. Still, pulling out pre-maturely though was stupid too. I believe they should have used oil from Iraq to continue funding the efforts of stabilization and westernization. Having a force of good in the Middle east, to spread new ideas is never a bad thing.

Here is a video that shows Tony Blair defending his religious beliefs in a debate with Christoher Hitchens, it's interesting to watch Blair's mental gymnastics as he defends his religion. Unfortunately religion still very much influences politics and poisons everything. This is a great example of why the debate on religion matters.

ok guys i need help.

for all those atheists or agnostics or maybe christian science people--what are some great sites to explore our existence, the universe, bible history and archaeology, pretty much all one needs to make a decision on their beliefs.

lets show the lurking jws that we can collaborate on something, and help a confused fading jw (me) explor his options and actually research.

In my time of confusion just after leaving one of the first things I did is watch a number of debate videos on religion. I found the Hitchens videos most compelling, the logic and points he made clarified things for me a great deal. They are also very entertaining to watch too. Here is a few (they are long, skip boring introductions...), and there are many more like it on youtube. I'd also recommend reading the book by Carl Sagan "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark", everything by Hitchins, and Dawkins such as "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything", and the "The God Delusion".

i suppose part of the fascination i have with this board is, the exotic nature of those making up the member population.

i say exotic because, as you yourselves will agree with, folks such as yourselves don't hang around the christian congregation for long upon making the decision that truth is not for you.

(rom 1:25) this "fading" thing spoken of here likely plays a role into why christians such as me find the average ex-jw to be a bit fascinating.

Ask yourself this, if Russel & Rutherford were ressurected today, and they spiritually did exactly as they did when they were 'gods mouthpiece' in their own time, would they still be in good standing, or would their 'spirit directed' way of doing things, be viewed as apostate by today's WT given how much its changed over the years?

How many times can you change your interpretation, of the truth and still refer to it as 'the truth'? It took them 100+ years to even identify who the faithful slave is? It's amazing that anyone still believes these clowns.
