The Watchtower is trying bring back Ancient Israel
by sabastious inthink about the conventions of old.
they were long, brutal and completely dominated by men who considered themselves good speakers.
why did they feel they had a right to command everyone to gather to these conventions?

Trust WT to suck all the fun out of something. Though I suppose they get round the feasting thing with the 'fine spiritual banquet that Jehoopla has provided'. I always hated that saying. It got me thinking about food, and so waiting another 4 hours till lunch time became even more agonizing.

The annointed remnant figure rising - a question
by jambon1 inhaving been out of the loop for a while on here, it dawned on me that the figure of memorial partakers has risen substantially from when i was a jw.. i think i bowed out at around 8500 in 2006.. can anyone briefly explain what the main reasons for this increase are and if it is ever discussed among jw's because if i remember correctly, the figure should be going down, not up.. thanks.. j.

End of the Preaching Work?
by Slidin Fast inthere is a rumour (from someone who should know better) that members of the gb are going round saying that the preaching work is accomplished.
this comes from a seniour elder and i therefore take it a bit more seriously than some sources.. if this is true then it kinda links in with the reduction of the half awake and the watch slightly-higher-mound-look-out magazines.. has any one else heard anything?.

Sounds interesting, but I wouldn't buy into it until i've seen a letter from HQ.
Did the elder tell you directly, or have you got this info from hearsay?
Either way it's quite possible that the Elders, who already know about the Awake reduction/Internet push have jumped to the conclusion that this is a sign of the preaching being accomplished. Any kind of change, in the minds of the witnesses, will always be taken as getting closer to the end.

Let's get this memorial party started!
by Megachusen ini'm being forced to go to this one by my family members so i thought i'd write this out in disgust: http://apostarad.blogspot.com/2012/04/memorial-time-again.html.
i'm serious about getting wasted before i go, by the way.
this will be a night to be remembered..

Doesn't seem like it. I thought i'd get more pressure from my parents but they haven't said a thing.
I recieved an invitation with a written letter from an Elder I know. But really to go is pointless, it's of no benefit to me, and it gives everyone there false hope.
Good luck to those of you going tonight. Hope it's not too stressful/boring.

Animal sin?
by jambon1 inthe doctrine of sin = death.. .
if it is the case that the reason people die is due to the original sin of the man adam (romans 5:12) then why do animals also get sick and die of the same illnesses as humans?
did an animal transgress in a similar manner?.

There is that scripture in Genesis about the snake being cursed. Maybe the other animals in Eden were accessories to the crime :P
The other point I make with arguments like this is - if only humans are sinful then why do at least 1,500 species display homosexual activity (a supposedly unnatural, sinful trait)

Are you an athiest and why?
by LouBelle ini'm interested in finding out people's reasons as to why they are athiest.. i have simply through life experience, my research into religions over the years come to that conclusion.
never thought i would come to a day that i did not believe in a god.
believing in a god is like believing in super man, it would be great if he existed but well it's just a fairy tale.

I studied the WT's biblical literalist views and realised they were dead wrong. But for everything the WT has said about other religions, on some things they were right, I feel. So I thought that true christianity was not being practiced in our time.
Later I discovered the all too human origins of these holy books, and there ya go.

New Rumor: Downsizing Circuits/Assemblies
by metatron inheard a new rumor that:.
the borg is going to phase out big district assemblies - so they can fit 'em in assembly halls.. they will reduce the size of circuits.
they will synchronize c.o.

There is some truth in this rumour.
I know that in this district (North-West England) it was announced there will be 2 venues for the DC this year; MEN Arena (as has been for the last 15 or so years) and Liverpool Echo. I don't really see this as a cost-cutting measure though. . . Both arenas are used year-round for Gigs/Sports events. They managed to fit everyone in the MEN arena just fine last year. Why waste money on booking another place for the same 3 days?
They must be expecting a boost in numbers, is all I can think.
