  Dawkins Ch 3 - The Primrose path to Macro-Evolution

  i am 4 pages into a 20 page chapter.

  i keep getting distracted.

  i have probably read more than 20 pages of lots of things this morning, so having a busy week is no excuse.

  I think I remember reading this chapter a long time ago. Around the time I stopped being a dub. Somtimes I feel Dawkins doesn't keep your interest when writing. Nevertheless, there's some good examples of Macro-evolution in there. It just puts into perspective that if small changes happen over a 'small' time scale then there is nothing to stop big changes from happening over a larger time scale.

  You mentioned a confirmation bias towards a Creator when reading this book, Kate. Which parts have stuck out to you?

  Personally I had made my mind up before I read Dawkins'. I had already read through Coyne's 'Why Evolution is True' (also an interesting read).

  This is great stuff, jwfacts. Really enjoyable read. It would have been nice to have had this article when I was researching the flood!

  One thing I must mention though, is that some witnesses could leave this article with the impression some kind of global flood actually happened. For example, my dad will always tell me that 'seashell fossils being found on mountain tops' is ample evidence for a flood. With such reasoning and a witness mindset, it's quite easy to assume everything else was accomplished through miracles. Could you perhaps add a section on what the geological record shows, maybe examples of great floods and what we expect to see in sediment? I know there is some evidence of flooding in the Americas after the last ice age. How do we know that area was flooded? Does this evidence exist on a global scale at the same point? What about the mammoths that were frozen on the spot, and sea fossils on the tops of mountains? You mentioned a couple of these things in passing, but if you could extrapolate on them it would really round off the article.

  i've got a min servant and his wife coming over this sunday.

  the brother has already called me up and invited me to his first public talk that day, which i respectfully declined.

  What difference would that make? They are out in the daytime, when you've clearly said that bad things only come out at night time. Tell your God to check his sources, and to ALWAYS READ THE LABEL.

  And I'm still trying to find a reason why the word 'beast' would only ever mean a hunter? You show a double standard by using the English translation for an old Hebrew/Greek word in the Bible, but critisize us when we talk about things that are - in our modern tongue - considered 'beats'.

  Or are you using the word and making your own defenition, set to include only animals that hunt in the night time?

  The Bible also claims Bats are a type of bird, when in actuality they are mammals. Tell me why anyone would get scientific advice from the Bible.

  There was an appropriate time to reveal to makind that some things have opposites? Could you not have figured this out on your own, you really needed the Bible to discern the subtle differences between light and dark?

  In all honestly, I'd be more inclined to say that dark was the 'absence of light', not it's opposite. How do we create darkness? By removing light. Come on, half this stuff wouldn't even make it to a primary school science book. Quit pulling my leg.

  I wouldn't say this was scientific.

  Don't you think animals hunt in the day time? I can travel about 3 miles down the road and watch the sparrow hawks hovering over the fields to catch mice. And I don't need night vision goggles to do so.

  Not everything on this planet has an opposite either. I know its fun to make a list of things that contrast, but that's not really proving your point.

  To say God revealed this to you is to belittle your own intelligence, not to mention your God's.
