I grew up not fearing old age

as a teenage jw, i grew up believing that i was not going to finish high school nor would i get old and have to die like my grandparents did.

well, i did finish high school, as did my children and my grandchildren and old age has not been kind to me.

i don't like to look at pictures from 40 years ago, from a time when i was healthy and i had the goal of "stay alive till 75.

I wish the newer generations would like at the old timers and learn from them. Most of the Spanish congregations I have been to are relative young but their perceptions is that the end is almost here. Why save? I saw some even getting into debt assuming that the end is so close they'll probably won't have to deal with the debt.

I think of what the future hold for this individuals and you don't have to look very far. You can look at the English congregations to see what the future holds for them. However their standard of living will probably be worse.

The cycle keeps repeating.

besty I am sorry I miss the humorous part.

Since the Olympics where Tim was honoured as the "Inventor of the World Wide Web" some people assume he invented the Internet. What Tim did is just a small piece of the puzzle. But you are right the www as we know it was and is an international effort.

besty Billy said 'Internet'. Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web not the Internet. Huge difference. HTTP and HTML are extremly simple compared to the physical layer and TCP/IP that they go through. The Internet was created in the US. Also Tim developed the world wide web while at CERN in Switzerland.

mP If you think that the 9/11 reporting was bias and exaggeration or Sandy let me ask you the following: Where you in ground 0 or the surrounding areas for 9/11 or where you in the eas coast(NY, NJ) for Sandy could you tell us how is an exaggeration? I'll agree with you that is bias I don't see the problem if they media is from the US like I said before if is international media then you are right they shouldn't only mention the US.

You think mid autumn in NY means warm weather? Today NY city 33F feels like 28F. Last time I check 32F is freezing. Can you find any caribbean city that is dropping below 50F? I search but the lowest I found from the major cities was 61F.

My point about the deaths in 3rd world countries and Africa was when you compared them to 9/11 when they are self induce. So was Sandy something self-induce? I don't think we could blame any people from the Caribbean. So how can you compare what happen to 9/11 to sel-induce deaths?

I was not trying to say that this forum is Americans only. But, if I am wrong someone please correct me, the majority in the forum are from the US. Or lets narrow the questions how many here from the Caribbean or with family members there? So if none are from there isn't reasonable that it might be the reason you hear little about it here? I would find no fault if any of the countries in the Caribbean failed to talk about how Sandy afected the US and just focus on their own.

If you where trying to get some perspective why not just ask the question directly and leave out the "think they are the center of the world" or "pathetic" out of the question? I am pretty sure that if you had done that more people would have giving you their perspective.

Maybe even a simple 'lets not forget the people affected in the Caribbean' would have gotten more sympathy. I might be wrong but like others have mention you sound anti-american and used this to vent out.

How did you fare in High School as a JW?

for me it was rather painful.

it was like pressing your nose against the candy store window, knowing that you can look, but you cannot partake.

Paul I feel your pain. It bother me so much I couldn't play any sports at school. I had coaches come to be and ask me why I wasn't playing for the school. The other students I play basketball couldn't understand why I couldn't play I pioneer during those years to keep my mind off it but everytime I went to see the school played I felt very nostalgic because I wish and knew I could be playing with them(I haded to go only time I went was when they play the division championship in Sacramentos's Arco Arena). And then I would remember 1 John 2:17 and feel guilty for wishing I could play.

What really pissed me off is that even though I wasn't no allow to play later in life I moved to other halls where some of the young people would play for the school even some daughters from elders. I would feel cheated.

So many things I regret not doing. Perhaps I could be better of, maybe not. But at least I wouldn't have to wonder what if what if. To stay out of trouble I had to be a loner or play basketball during lunch.

I think is human nature to try to simplify things and generalized. There are very few absolutes and we tend to forget or ignore that fact. Besides who likes to be wrong.

Looking back at my personal experience while I was a JW I contemplated the possibility of being wrong. What if the Bible is not the word of God or there is no God? At times I told myself I should investigate the claims that the Bible was inspired by God starting with when it was written and if the so called prophecis where accurate. Even as a JW you are aware the people claim the Bible was written after the fact and it made me wonder what if they are right.

When I was in the Univertisy I met some people that expose me to the multitude of gospels and the Bible contradictions. Some of the reasonings from the WT ease my cognitive dissonance but some didn't. The only thing I had to couple was to tell my self the Bible doesn't give all the answers so if I want to know them I need to stay faithful and in the new order I can as Jesus this questions. Besides the faithful slave knows better I should trusth them.

Why didn't I research on my on to see if the claims about the Bible where correct or not? First I was afraid for 3 reasons. One what if Satan mislead me he is smarter than me. Two what if I find out that what I believe is wrong. I was not ready to give that up. Three just lazy takes a lot of time to reasearch these things.

Once I found out that the slave is not inspired by God I beging looking at the things I though I should have looked but didn't. Try to proove the prophecies in the Bible. I could not. I was vry sad when even the 70 weeks of Daniel cannot be verified, you'll find tons of different interpretations but none can be pin point with accuracy they are based on assumptions not facts.

I wanted to believe I prayed and still hope there is a created that gives a damn about his creation. However being honest so far I have found 0 proof of something supernatural. I know that I could be wrong and there might be a God but I cannot claim either way and the more I learn that more I check the more I am convience that my stand will not change.

Now let me ask if the WT fool people and many other organizations do the same. Mind control is all over the place since the moment we are born we are expose to mind control. There is a great probability that religion and god where created to control the masses and to enslave them.

So if I am an agnostic is not because of hate or disillusioned just simple don't see the evidence of God.

mP you didn't answer the question about how the temperature up north is a pretty big issue that the Caribbean doesn't have to worry about. The fact that you mention africans dieing everyday vs 9/11 is pretty simplistic and the comparison is uncalled for.

First when you have an event happening all the time it looses its impact is no longer newsworthy. Good or bad thats a fact. So if people die in a place that doesn't happen is newsworthy.

Second did you stop and think that most of the deaths in africa or third world countries are self induce? From corrupt goverments to irresponsible human beings having a lot of kids without the means to support them etc. etc.

Pathetic how people from other contries cry when the US gets involved but then cry when the US doesn't get involved.

And is normal that the media and the people here talk mainly about the US. I been to NY I can relate and talk about it, however I never been to the Caribbean and can't really related so should I talk about something I don't know about. Go complain to international media if they are only talking about the US. Complaining to this forum or about the US media at this time for being bias is pathetic.

Now here is another perspective. People in large cities like NYC are dependent on what the cities provide. They are not self sufficient. So who is in better shape someone that has never seen harship or someone that sees it constantly. Who is the better survivor.

Please put things in perspective is like me going into Marca board(spanish forum) and start complaining that they only talk about Spain and how great their sports are. I only see argentinians going into that board to complain which is pretty stupid is a Spanish forum the main focus is Spain.

Tammy learning nothing you say? I would argue that religion caused and extended the dark ages. Believing in Christ and the bible has no more merits than believing in ancient aliens. Some of those ancient alien theories could hold more truth.
