Pathetic.
There has been a lot of comment in the media in the UK about the apparent lack of concern for non-American victims of the storm in the US media.
I think there was 60 deaths in the Caribbean before it got to New Jersey.
I have seen the Caribbean destruction commented on quite a bit. I suppose we are so very wrong to be concerned for the people we are responsible for taking care of?
Americans are such assholes.
Cofty:
THe people in the caribbean have a lot less. Given the storm was much stronger when it passed there, along with their less solid structures they would have lost a lot more. Im think its pathetic that Americans whinge about lost power , food when communities further south have nothing. Lets not forget that its not over for those island countries, more will die simply because of lack of clean water and so on.
NC, I know. I can't believe all of the American bashing, especially since Sandy hit.
FYI to the America bashers, we are already giving to victims of Sandy in Non USA Areas.
and another...
"Operation USA is working to provide access to safe water and support to hospitals and clinics in Cuba. The organization is also providing emergency assistance in Jacmel, Haiti."

Add that to the money donated by American citizens to the Red Cross and other organizations, and you will see that we are also trying to help others. What have YOU done???
I'm simply reporting a theme in the UK media recently. I am interested in American views on whether it is justified. Don't shoot the messenger.
My deepest sympathy to the Americans and the other countries that lost homes and loved-ones to Sandy.
I am sure Japan was all-consumed with recovery efforts for a while. This can be forgiven them.
@Ohio
But you had to look, i dont see any mentioning of the carib on nytimes, nbc etc, front page is NYC NYC.
Hurricane Sandy has cut off whole towns from basic information, supplies and electricity, leaving individuals who have lost everything increasingly desperate for help.
The difficulty of finding gasoline persisted in New York and in New Jersey, where fuel rations started Saturday.
Thousands who had descended on New York for the marathon were left brokenhearted, with a free Sunday.
Well, if you read the Globe and Mail you'd be forgiven if you thought Toronto was the center of the universe....

6 days of sorrow: A look back at Sandy
