NEW JW POLICY POSTED!!!

i don't know if anyone has posted on this already but there is a new press release at http://www.jw-media.org/releases/default.htm?content=bg_molestation.htm that defines the current jw policy and i believe it has taken a step in the right direction!.

although they have not literally changed it to require reporting to the authorities in all states, they have finally put into print the following: "additionally, the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so.".

i am glad to see, straight from the wt, acknowledgement that the adults involved have every right to go to the police.

You are right Sloboy. I realize that not everyone wants the same thing and I shouldn't have generalized.

So what do you want then regarding the WT? Reform? Destruction? Do you want things to remain the same? Do you just want to vent about how bad things are or how badly you've been treated?

I was offering a reason why most people posting in this thread did not share the same feelings as Amac on this matter. While many say they are interested in reform, this thread is an example of how people will respond with skepticism (again rightly so) when the Society does make changes. I highly doubt the reform crowd will ever be satisfied. I maintain reform is a half-measure that is accepted with mixed emotions solely for the sake of family that will not leave this cult.

The topic of reform vs destruction has been debated several times in the past and it generally seems to be the wish of the majority that this thing is out of business at some point, although that is unlikely in the eyes of many. It is also accepted that reform has always been part of the nature of the WT Society and such reforms haven't made us like it any more. If they drop their blood policy and disfellowshipping, we might be less angry, but is anyone around here really going to be lining up to get back in?

yup, i'm visiting naeb and going to a tragically hip concert, but i figure i'll be up there with the wifey for about five days.

who wants to party with us?.

i'm sure naeb has things planned (like getting me smashed and laughing his ass off while my wifey photographs me in compromising positions so that the imcriminating pics can be posted gleefully here).

I'll be at the Hip show in Toronto at the beginning of August... I guess Canadians think alike eh? You'll like the show and you'll get a good dose of Canadian culture.

I'm sure several wouldn't mind meeting up at the end of the month when you are in town.

SUICIDE IN KH PARKING LOT

last saturday, a former ministerial servant and pioneer committed suicide in the woodinville washington kingdom hall parking lot.

he was disfellowshipped several years ago, and according to the old sister that related the story to me today, he was depressed because no one would talk to him.

i don't know how i kept calm when she explained to me that "we couldn't talk to him...he was disfellowshipped.".

This is absolutely tragic. People who were never JWs have no idea what a blow a DFing can be to someone who never saw it coming or to those whose entire life was wrapped up in JW culture. I think what we've seen of these tragic experiences is only the tip of the iceburg unfortunately.

the majority--probably VAST majority--don't want the total destruction of the WT,

I would respectfully beg to differ. I think the majority of those who post here recognize there are benefits in the areas of reform for family who do not wish to leave. But I think the overwhelming majority POSTING HERE recognizes the WT as a corrupt institution that as long as it is in existance is causing harm to people and destroying lives. I think if you conducted a survey here, that is what the end result would be.

If reform is the true intent of most here, then why have they not really welcomed any changes that have occurred? They will always be skeptical and distrust the future changes (and rightly so) because of the past. At what stage of reform will this crowd really go away and leave the WT alone?

I guess until a survey is carried out we both can believe our own "generalizations".

I can agree Amac that there may be some benefit to some persons belonging to a religion and that many (if not most) JWs are good people. I personally feel that changes in the right direction should be applauded, while at the same time I denounce the entire entity as beyond any meaningful reform.

Why I say this is because if this organization was truly honest about it's own history and shortcomings and if they gave up everything harmful and destructive about it, then they would have no religion left. I think if people were given the chance to, let's say read Crisis of Conscience and were told by the religion's superiors that "yes it is all true", then how many would really choose to remain JWs except for reasons of being in a big social club?

The religion is founded upon building up hopes and expectations that are supposed to be realized in the "near future" and the publicizing of this through their ministry and much less on true Christian works. You can only tell people it is "just around the corner" for so long before it wears thin. And if there was no ministry publicizing this, would there really be anything left? This religion is about keeping people in an endless loop of meetings/service going sideways through life. How meaningful is this and how long can this be sustained?

I would like to know your thoughts on just what this religion can be reformed into? I also admit that my initial hopes were for reform but after much thought I realized what possibly could this thing reform into and are those expectations realistic? And how much of my life should I sacrifice gambling that this religion would reform into something truly meaningful and beneficial?

Amac, I have to applaud your sticking to your guns in this thread. Like I said before, even if the WT came out with the perfect policy on child abuse, we would simply move our focus to the blood issue and how people are dying with respect to that. If they said everyone could take a blood transfusion then we would be back to square one saying they are false prophets.

The bottom line is we are not interested in reform, we are not interested in anything but the destruction of the WT. I hope you can appreciate this amidst all of the charades we play otherwise you will find yourself frustrated to no end with this crowd.

Dung, you need to get a grip. I realize this is an emotional issue for you, but you've got to be sending your blood pressure through the roof and that can't be good. I can't for the life of me imagine how you manage to sit through the meetings these days seeing how excited you get here. I love your passion and I'm glad you're on our side, but please don't let your emotions run away on you.

i've spent a lot of time on allmusic.com and it amazes me how much nirvana is mentioned when the reviewers rate other albums.

so its a no brainer that nirvana's work should probably have a place in every rock collection, but what are some other albums every rock fan should listen to if not own.

the above analysis clearly shows that while there is a certain incidence of apostasy in new religious movements, the overwhelming majority of people who disengage themselves from these non-conforming religions harbor no lasting ill-will toward their past religious associations and activities.

I think generally this is true. It takes a conscious effort to be objective, and even then I think most of us fail. Speaking for myself, I find the more I try to distance myself from this religion, the less objective I am, the more I hate it and the less sympathy I have for anyone involved in it.

I also heard some active JWs make sad comments regarding Erica. Personally, I thought she looked great and carried herself well. But these negative comments are IMO further evidence of a mindset that allows these crimes and others to be covered over and evidence of a mindset that blames victims for what happens to them.

All I can say is let these sick people talk and ultimately they expose themselves for the insensitive pricks that they are.

JW's the best looking people ever?

a sister that studied with me once told me that if you look in the halls, you will see some of the most best looking people on earth.

she said that sisters are far prettier than worldly people because they keep themselves so 'pure' and brothers were much manlier because they knew how to 'protect women and take the lead'.

i dont know about that!

There were lots of good-looking JW people IMO where I live. I think when you are in an environment where everyone is in suits and dresses all the time and social pressures demand everyone always look their best, then you are just seeing people at their best. But to say they are better looking is just stupid.
