  my wife and i have been witnesses for almost 50 years.

  we are both third generation witnesses and raised in the "lie".

  we raised our kids in it also.

  Just wanted to welcome you.. The Proclaimers book had a significant part in my leaving as well so I found it interesting you should mention that.

  I have not been able to get my family out and that has been disappointing. But with others I have found that living a good life and enjoying it outside of "the lie" and patience to be the most helpful in getting others to leave. Directly tearing down someone's beliefs and being bitter about the past will often have the opposite effect than intended.

  Thanks for the kind comments guys. Christmas was spent with one of my "adoptive" families and their relatives and it was really nice. While there is much that is dark about human nature, there is also much kindness and goodness that is easy to overlook.

  Enjoyed most convivial company!

  how was your boxing day?

  thoughts of our recent r&r came flooding back as mrs ozzie and i met up with friends from the navy whose company we'd enjoyed in exotic parts of the world.

  so we spent the day in a beachside suburb of sydney, enjoying the light rain and sea breezes....and......one bottle my friend chose was another new south wales shiraz.

  Maybe our situations are not so different. I am not DFed either but shunned just the same. But like you say, there are friends that have become like family and I am grateful for them. I just am at a loss as to how to view my real family. I don't think of them too often, but when I do it just makes me bitter and angry because it is so wrong.

  alcohol is very popular among jw heavy-weights and their wives.

  ask any bethelite.

  ... an elder once said "it is the only vice we are allowed to have".

  As long as you drank in certain circles, didn't make a scene or get a DUI it was all good. And if u were in bethel and covered your 2-4 of beer with a garbage bag when u brought it in, it was a-OK...

  You are right in that we never really did know each other. Beyond the "business" of JW life nothing else was considered to be of any real importance.

  So when we parted ways, and I made sure they understood that it was due to THEIR intollerance and not mine, I missed them very little. I just moved on like they were never really there because they never were.

  I do know that family is very important in life and I was raised with those strong ideals. I guess I just think it is a shame that those strong ideals I was raised with evaporated so quickly when they were put to the test.

  actually it was prisca who we have to thank for this month's choice , as she kindly brought a few bottles over to us as a gift.

  actually i don't know why wwe've taken so long to feature this winery.

  lol.. let me know what you think of it after you drink it and i'll try to pick one up if you can recommend it then..lol Our tastes seem similar and i'll take your word for it.. haha

  Recommend me a good one that is very oaky.. very dry.. full bodied with very deep flavours and spare me the ones with the "fruity" notes A cabernet or shiraz... not fond of many merlots.

  The cartoon is funny but I guess it hits a bit too close to home to laugh that much.

  I am finding the more time passes that I am becoming increasingly resentful of my family's shunning and less understanding and tolerant of the reasons why.

  I realize as more time passes we are becoming strangers. If ever they were to leave by some bizarre stroke of luck, I wonder if I can forgive them. I wonder if we even know each other anymore. Perhaps I deserve that award too.

  What an incredible shiraz!

  mrs ozzie and i were at a family's xmas party this evening and one of the guests brought along a special label wine.

  not only that, it was a 1.5 litre bottle.

  now that's a special bottle!!

  lol.. wine is so unpredictable and people can be so fussy that it is great when it all comes together in a perfect glass. I guess you really have to like wine to understand how some people can get so excited over finding a bottle they really like.

  It is hard to let bottles age that much when you want to drink them :) Unfortunately, I've discovered not all wines get better with so much age... sometimes they just get more expensive :)
