Forgive my facination with this topic. It would seem to be a major change, and as such does offer a glimmer of hope that perhaps family members who have shunned those who have taken a step back from all of this on grounds of conscience, can reach some sort of compromise.

Further interesting comments at h20 of someone's annual meeting notes.

Talk by Jack Barr: Members of the Governing Body resigned from the WTBTS
and members of the other sheep were nominated and elected to fill their
slots. Thirty or more names were read quickly for various corporations.
Don Adams is now president of the WTBTS of Pennsylvania.

It is interesting that if Don Adams is of the "other sheep" (lol) the WTS now is headed by a non-annointed member.

Essentially, it boils down to the fact that this allows the Governing Body to step back and deal primarily with spiritual matters, while these brothers of the other sheep handle day-to-day business operations of the legal corporations.

In other words, it looks like the GB are just too old to keep up the pace, and basically they just can meet and make doctrinal changes.

1) Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, which will supervise
matters of a religious and educational nature. This includes organizing
the preaching work, holding conventions, etc. The directors and officers
of this corporation are primarily brothers who work closely with the
Service department in Patterson. Brother William Van de Wall is the
president of this corporation.
2) Religious Order of Jehovah's Witnesses, which cares for matters
pertaining to those in Special Full-Time service, including Bethelites,
Special Pioneers, Traveling Overseers, etc. Brother Patrick LaFranca is
the president of this corporation.
3) Kingdom Support Services, Inc., which handles design & engineering of
buildings and holds titles to vehicles used by the Society.

Judging by next years yeartext, alot of people have lost their "firm conviction" in the arrangement.

Additionally, the yeartext for 2001 will be: "Stand complete and with

The world headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses today announced some revisions to their legal organizational structure that will allow them to keep pace with their growth. The Christian group currently numbers six million active members worldwide.
The revisions, which were announced at the annual meeting of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania held today in Jersey City, New Jersey, include the appointment of new directors to the Watch Tower Society and the setting up of three new nonprofit corporations in the United States. The seven new directors are experienced ministers who have already been serving in various administrative functions at the world headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The Governing Body, which currently numbers 13 members, will continue to focus on Bible doctrine, evangelizing, and pastoral care. In 1999 more than 14 million attended the services of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Your summary is interesting MDS. It will be interesting to see if what you say ultimately works out to be correct.

I find it funny that they say these changes are so they can "keep pace with their growth" which in an increasing part of the world is stagnant and negative.

I find it also interesting that these 7 seem likely to be non-annointed. One more evidence that the old men of the GB are not able to do what they used to and one more step to abandonning the increasingly rediculous notion that the annointed calling stopped in 1935.

Further this appears to put more authority in the hands of "the given ones" (lol) If this is the case, will it allow a take-over of the Society, or is this some plan to have some sort of stucture set up when these GB finally knock off?

Also would not any common annointed member not have authority over any of these non-annointed 7 directors? How does this play out when the "foreigners" are exercising authority over "spiritual isreal"?

As usual the explaination for these major changes is minimal and leaves many unanswered questions. It will be interesting to see how the press responds to this.

As well, i wonder at what point will people start asking questions and scratching their heads at all this change. Funny how we're not supposed to be on the net, yet those who are seem to be the first to know everything, or seem to be the ones who actually know anything at all.

Gotta love the politics of human nature and technology eh?

I find all of these arguments interesting. And depending on what beliefs you hold and what you hold to be the foundation of those beliefs, each one seem to have some merit.

I find pupplylove's explaination interesting in that it is probably the simplest, most logical, and requires the least amount of semantics.

I don't think there is a "god" overlooking the earth. If there was a creator who put us here, he/she/it has long since left.

Unfortunately, its also the explaination that offers the least hope, is the most uncomfortable and the most disturbing.

GB, Education, Jack-ass, Witnet?

the original poster suggests how it was perceived by some to be shocking that dan sydlik (gb member) used the word "jack-ass" in a talk.. but as pointed out by bodhissatva in the following post, that it was who dan sydlik referred to as "jack-asses" that was the sad thing.. brother sydlik was saying that bethel especially needs people with skills, certifications, and qualifications.

But as pointed out by Bodhissatva in the following post, that it was who Dan Sydlik referred to as "jack-asses" that was the sad thing.

Brother Sydlik was saying that Bethel especially needs people with skills, certifications, and qualifications. To make this point, he said (in his characteristic booming voice), "Of course, any jackass can swing a hammer."

To call those who rejected higher learning and took up a trade as they were instructed, and then refer to them as "jack-asses" is highly insulting. Then to take people who have "skills, certifications, and qualifications" who basically were shunned as weak ones is absolutely mind boggling.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot (and everyone else who listened to you.) And they wonder why people are so upset?

Public "Affairs"

i really tire of the word games these days.

how wt public affairs representatives present things to the media so as to give an impression that is not quite accurate.. not that they lie mind you, but if someone is led to the same false conclusion, what's the difference, really?.

Frenchy, I think this "double talk" must get really confusing for the old "old school" elders who were so used to telling it like it is, and telling everyone where to stick it.

The revelation book said toward the end, we'd be delivering all these hard-hitting messages and denunciations. All I see is a watering down of everything witnesses died for and believed in.

All of this selling out is evidence of an increasingly money oriented organization on the run, and desperate attempts of people to cling to authority that doesn't belong to them. Saddest of all is every watered-down comment in the press or our publications tramples on the graves of everyone who died for what they believed came from God.

I admire these people. Everyone that said no to a blood transfusion because they thought God said no. Every person that was raped or killed in Malawi or Nazi Germany because they remained nuetral, every child that endures mockings for being a Witness.

I have no problem dying for what i believe in, my ideals, and the simplicity of the message of Christ that we'd die for someone else's life. I'd consider that the hightest honor to die for someone or something you believe in. Its just these days, I'm making sure what I'm living and dying for is solidly grounded.

Good point frenchy.

That Christ willingly offered himself up is something that strangely is missing from the illustration, and i thank you for pointing that out. I find it strange that we do acknowledge Christ's central role in Jehovah's purpose but tend to minimize it at the same time, because too much emphasis would take away from Jehovah.

Our emphasis on Jehovah seems rather unique, and even seems rather out of place in the "greek" scriptures considering the emphasis they put on Christ instead of Jehovah.

Seven, you make good points. Points that if i think too hard about, it leaves me with even bigger questions. Maybe one day i can face reality, but how much good will it do?

As far as your faith in God, that you keep holding on, i find that strangely remarkable. Good for you.

ps again. sorry frenchy. I'd be interested in anything you have put on paper if you'd like to share. You have a reasonable way of looking at things. While it appears you, like most of us have tried to re-evaluate everything from scratch, you haven't tossed away the principles and ideals that caused many of us to be drawn to become "Witnesses" in the first place. Always enjoy your comments. Thanks
