I'm sorry to say i didn't read the book (but may yet!). I loved the movie Charly with Cliff Robertson though. A real tear jerker when I first saw it.

i remember this from school............it was one of those short stories that were required reading.........i remember being totally swept away by it and deeply saddened by the ending.. .
daniel keyes wrote little sf but is highly regarded for one classic, flowers for algernon.
as a 1959 novella it won a hugo award; the 1966 novel-length expansion won a nebula.

I'm so glad you posted these, Thunder! It really shows this board's toleration of all political views.

in the aug. 1 wt, in a secondary article on numbers, the following paragraph appears:.
"what were "the signs" around which the three-tribe divisions were to encamp in the wilderness?.
the bible does not give a description of what these signs were.
Excellent Metatron! I remember some disputing about this in the past--use of flags. This would greatly undermine their position towards modern-day flags wouldn't it?
Thanks!

so, even after we agree there is too much politics, some here have decided to keep going over the same bullshit time after time.
stuff they have no control over.
stuff that pisses people off at one another.
Wellll, since I'm the only one, I believe, on this thread that suggested don't read what you don't want or at least the most recent, I must object, your honor, to the phrases "with an agenda" and calling any person a "radical."
But maybe these posters are referring to a "composite person" lol! (That's WT speak and please don't infer that I'm comparing anyone to the, cringe, WT, just that I borrowed a phrase from their buzzwords.)
Anyway, dear audience (anyone who reads my post), it's the last thing I want is to hurt anyone and I refrained from all political posts for quite a while because of learning a private situation with a poster, and I still refrain from saying things outright that I really believe about this aggression in Iraq.
But it really seems to me, quite honestly, with no agenda behind it, that to be told not to speak about subjects we may be quite passionate about and very interested in, because some people will go on those threads any way even if they know they're upset by them, seems to be a bit unfair.
And to feel that the entire board should comply with their wishes of silence because they're aware of them and even that's upsetting seems to me to be beyond reasonable.
Should politics be called the same as the other guidelines prohibit? What about other hot topics: abortion, drugs, evolution? What if other posters become "offended" by the existence of these threads? I mean, really.
But it's not my board. What I like about the board is the wide variety of subjects discussed. To say political subjects are verboten, to me, seems like saying newspapers cannot discuss politics, what people are most interested in, especially this year.
And please, be fair, and don't say all political discussions and posters resort to name-calling. It seems to me that the majority of posters are reasonable and well-informed. Is it wrong to discuss things because we don't agree or feel very passionate? Are we supposed to only discuss subjects that don't mean as much?
I've tried to go to political boards, but have not felt inclined to discuss it with people that I don't know as I know people here.
Again, I say if you don't like the subject (whatever it is) just don't open those threads. Is that so hard or impossible to do? I do it about drugs and even abortion.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Pat
okay, it seems it's high time we had another thread like this!.
for serious reading, i have exceptions to the rulers by amy goodman (goes great with fahrenheit 911!
)the curse of adam by bryan skyles (i think) (it predicts the extinction of males.
I love these threads to get good ideas for reading! Thanks to all.

Dear Valis,
I respectfully disagree. I mean, the usual reply to this kind of complaint is simply don't read the threads you aren't interested in. I don't read a lot of subjects, such as "oral sex," all the marijuana ones, etc.
It's as E-man said a long time ago, it's like a cineplex: don't go to the movies you don't want to see.
Cheers,
Pat

my favorite coffee is starbucks house blend decaf and starbucks columbian.
i mix those two together equally, and make it really strong, like expresso.
i boil one large cup of water, dump in 4 heaping teaspoons of expresso grind, then pour it through a strainer.
Thanks SS, but I forgot to add I put cocoa powder in it sometimes to make it mocha. And I brew the coffee in the pot 1st before putting it in the blender, lol. Four scoops for 2 cups, because the ice dilutes it.

Hi SS,
I have to drink decaf coffee and prefer Starbuck's, but my latest in the last few months is as follows:
Iced Latte Mocha
1 1/2 cups of very strong brewed coffee in blender
1/3 cup dry milk
Some sweetener and sometimes flavoring
Blend a couple of minutes till foamy
Pour over a very tall ice-tea glass full of ice.
Yuuuuummmmmmmyy!
