My Weekend
by Yerusalyim ini spent the weekend with my formerly jw neice (from the wife's side of the family) my wife's brother, who lives in central florida, was the whole reason the family became jw's...before that they were happily cultural catholics...anyhow...this is the guy who berated my wife when she left her ex husband because he hit her...and who had the nerve to call germany and "forgive" my wife for marrying me...freakin a$$hole...he's the one who spent my other neices inheritance (he was the trustee).
well, mr jw himself ran off last weekend with another woman...left his wife and home for some (apparently) quite ugly gal...what a jerk off pretentious a--hole.
he's also a child molestor.. .

Hi Yeru,
That reminds me of Irma Bombeck's book title Family Ties that Bind and Gag, lol.
It does seem to me that memorial services in lieu of funerals are commonplace with the dubs. I've heard of quite a few. It doesn't seem to be recommended by the WTS, per se, but rather a tradition that's developed.

Was there really a global flood? (new publication reasoning)
by Simon inthe latest "keep on the watch" publication released at the district assembly really looks like a rehash of old material (and even old pictures ... they must be running out of paint or something!)..
one 'gem' caught my eye flicking through it.
how do you reason with people to convince them that the bible account of a global flood is real?.
-

Linking the life-span to the flood with out any proof other than the Bible stating it is no scientific proof, it is circular reasoning. Because the Bible, Moses, Jesus, etc.said it,is supposed to make it true, of course it's true because the wtbts says so. --------Blueblades
This is also called a "useless tautology," I believe. It's repetition of an assertion to "prove" that it's true. Parents do this by saying "because I said so!"
President Bush did it recently by saying "Why do we say there was a relationship between Hussein and Al Queda? Because there was a relationship between Hussein and Al Queda."

Mmmm, yummy, E-man. We had
a few times in London.
Once, we ate outside (because the pub was full for a soccer game!) in the under an eave---but the chicken pot pie we ate was scrumptious and tasted all the better because of being in the rain!

Well, on my visit to London, there was two very real times that I was almost hit by a car or a huge double-decker bus! The traffic doesn't even slow down for you, lol. In California, it's the law that the pedestrians have the right-of-way.
Plus, you have Tony Blair for PM (ducking for cover!).
I love the BBC comedies that I watched when sick in my hotel room! A lot different than the vapid sit-coms in the US. I like that political jabs are common-place in the entertainment (or seemed to be) without being considered unpatriotic as in the US.
I got a kick out of, but learned to pay sharp attention to, the painted directions on the streets:
look right, or look left.
What I didn't like was getting LOST so easily! The streets in London are a maze and once I went out for 1/2 hour jog and didn't return for 1 and 1/2 hours! Scary!
But everything else was delightful and I love being called "lovey" and thought there were so many really attractive and well-dressed people! Not to mention the spectacular buildings!
Oh! And the PUBS! They were really, really great! The atmosphere was good and so was the Guinness, etc.
Thanks for asking, E-man!

The Publications Look Like Crap
by Nosferatu innot sure when they switched from hard cover books to cheap cardboard cover.
the publications don't have the same, fancy, expensive look that the previous hard cover ones did.
i used to marvel over the nice hard cover books, and the colors of them.

Good point Nos---and I can't wait to see the wedding photos!
But I didn't like the hard covers and thought the new soft-backs looked more modern, similar to paper-back books. Because modern hard-covered books have book jackets on them.
But, now that I've "escaped," it was the content that was the problem, lol!

587 BC for Total Dunderheads
by Farkel inif you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.

Thanks Farkel for that simplified version of chronology. I particularly enjoyed this analysis:
It turns out this stuff is a piece of cake! The tricky part was filtering through the obfuscating WTS comments on the matter, and I won't bother you with that. However, using ONLY comments by the faithful and discrete slavers we can rather easily see that their chronology regarding 607 B.C. is wrong.
There is really not much to learn here, either: No astronomy, no neo-Babylonian tablets, and no confusing Bible versus will be presented. Just the names of five people with really funny names, and only several quotes from WTS publications will be used. Also, there is no need to quibble over things like regnal years, assession years, cardinal and ordinal numbers
Dubs think the WT is exceptionally scholarly because of the confusion they insert by such things as regnal years, cardinal and ordinal numbers, etc., etc., etc., etc. ad nauseaum. What it does is deliberately bog down the reader with double talk, which, of course, considering the reputed number of lawyers there, makes sense.
Your post made sense to me and I'll be sure to remember it, should I ever be inclined to discuss it (not likely).
