Free Bible Study or Indoctrination Session?
by VM44 in...and are the jws forthcoming at the start what the "study" really is?.

They're done alone as well, even spouses are split into separate studies, so you're less likely to spot problems.
To be fair this isn't really true. Studies with couples together, or even whole families are encouraged. There would have to be a special circumstance to study with spouses separately.
You are right however that they wouldn't want group discussions like Alpha. The whole format is based upon controlling the environment and the questions and answers. Sure, people are allowed to ask questions outside of the material, but it isn't encouraged.

I now read this article through 3 times and new points jump out each time. I read Franz on the subject, and Martin Shilmer has good stuff to, but I've never seen the law of Moses delt with so thoroughly:

Some of it is funny. To me some of the baby/blood transfusion article was a little OTT and postentially very offensive. Shoot me down. It's ok by me. But if parents had been misled to take a stand on this doctrine and then read the joke that they were hoping to get some fame out of it, then I think that would be very hurtful. The whole blood thing is just crazy IMO and I recently posted a link to a good articel I read about it. however I know people who are hurting over this and I don't think rubbing peoples noses in the dirt if theyve lost a child is very kind.
As I say, I honestly thought some or the site was funny, but I just think that some sensitivity is appropriate.
Just my opinion though.

Hi TD, are the inacuracies about the doctrine itself? I haven't kept up with the finer point of what is believed so I can't tell. I wanted to share the article with a relative so I would rather know if something is not acurate. FG

I can also confirm that a reliable source has confirmed 1) a new Bible release, and 2) there is likely to be some significant doctrinal change. The implication was that it will be bigger than last year's FADS=GB

The year 1914
by Kool Jo inok...so after this new light came out in the watchtower study over the weekend...a couple questions:.
1. why is the year 1914 still relevant to the doctrine?.
2. what would the effects be in they were to ever drop the 1914 teaching in the future (let's say 20 years from now)?.

If you want a good read on 1914 then take a look here:
http://meletivivlon.com/discussion/1914-2/apollos-vs-jw/
I just posted about the a new article on the same site regarding the blood policy:
http://meletivivlon.com/2013/09/10/jehovahs-witnesses-and-the-no-blood-doctrine/
They are both long reads, but well worth it.
Sorry, I don't know how to post clickable links so you'd just have to copy and paste into your browser, unless someone can do the links for me.

Yes, I noticed that too. To begin with I wondered if the person running the site was really a witness, but have read many of the articles it appears that he's the real deal - a witness who is prepared to discus things openly.

The BRAIN is awakening! Don't ignore it!
by Tech49 insomething happened recently, and i thought i would share a few comments.
first, lets set the stage..... if anyone is familiar with current events in the pacific northwest, you may have heard of the death of a beautiful young lady, whitney heichel, a short while ago.
in short, whitney was a young sister that was kidnapped and killed by a "congregation" friend.

I agree that those things take place all the time, and that we can tune into them.
However my personal stance is that I presume someone is genuine unless there is strong evidence to the contrary. In this case when I listened to the interview I found I had no personal reason to doubt that she meant everything she said.
I have close family members who believe primarily because not to believe would leave them without hope of seeing ones they have lost. I know this syndrome well. It's no logical basis for belief in anything in particular and yet it is a strong influencer, and those who have it as their foundation are not easily moved from that.
