I can accept the idea of no survival of the soul or spirit after physical death based on Ecc. 9:5. That's the only one that comes to mind right off.

JW doctrine..
by Brummie ini cant think of any of their doctrines that could be supported if they didnt deliberately alter the scriptures.
even their teaching of god creating the earth is flawed when one considers what they believe about god.. of the top of my head i cant think of anything that i still believe that was taught me by the watchtower...can you?.

Does it surprise anyone that France, Jordan, Indonesia, Russia, among others, have majorities disapproving of us?
Yet many of these same countries freely take our money, our technical expertise, our physical, medical, and other types of assistance when the need arises.
If we're so bad and backward, why do other countries spy on us? Why'd China hang on to our spy plane if we're so behind? Who wants "inferior" technology?
Why is illegal immigration such a big problem if we're so baaaaad?
Why do so many other nations send their citizens here to study? A list of the doctors at the medical facility my cardiologist (who's Asian, btw) is connected with shows all but maybe three out of 13 are from India.
Those hating us are hypocrites. Keep your people at home, don't ask us for help, and get copulated.

Always happens when I go in the hospital and I hate it!
by Kingpawn ini got home from the dayton hospital after a heart cathertization/angioplasty, and while there the semigood control i had over my blood sugar went through the roof.. .
hospitals use what they call a "sliding scale" as far as how much insulin they'll give.
that's bad enough, but add to it the fact that they test you after you've eaten (i'm used to testing/dosing myself up to a half-hour before a meal when i can).

SB,
Thanks and point taken.
Not being a nurse I don't know the time demands on them and so you may well be right. Unless I speak up it'll get brushed off. My wife was there but maybe we both assumed mentioning it once was enough. I'm sure I'll be in for another "visit" someday so I'll be better prepared next time.

As a loyal JW, what made you to start doubting the Watchtower ???
by run dont walk ini'm sure all of us were loyal at one time to the watchtower, believing in all of it.
(some of us probaly hated it from day one as well but, ).
what were some of the first things that happened or were said, that made you to start doubting it and beginning the loss of your loyalty to the organization ??????.

Unlike many who were "stumbled" as the JW's would say by doctrinal issues, the thing that first gave me a galling shock was hearing a racial slur from one of the elders.
Then, expressing private misgivings about how another elder's daughter dressed, hearing a story about her that wasn't exactly flattering, AND being told others had mentioned the same concern I had, with no changes in her dress.
The gradual change in the blood issue set off warning bells--the "there's something about this that bothers me but I just can't put my finger on what it is" type of discomfort.
Even after all that I still (as did others) thought that they had it mostly right. Then I came here, having been told about Freeminds in chat, and my faith was like a crippled ship taking repeated torpedo hits.

((((Vivamus))))
Thanks. Hey, I saw those pics posted about the Apostofest and finally got to hear some voices to go with the faces--yours too. Lisavegas420 was asking me if I was going to make it to the one in Green Bay Wisconsin here in the States. I'm a little leery about airplanes right now so....
How are these things handled in The Netherlands(sp?)? Medical care like mine, I mean?
Unrelated, but I hear that while there is an "assisted-suicide" law where you live, there have been allegations it's being abused and misused. What's up?
Have a nice day!

What really gets me is: if my hometown docs have prescribed certain meds---why the $%^& can't the hospital give me the same pills?!? They know I take them regularly (unless they didn't read the charts!) Hardly ever got them. They say I'm allowed to take them the day of the procedure so they can't be contraindicated, can they? OK, the one that reduces my heart rate would, I'd think, be perfect for a time like this. No nitrate, beta blocker, etc either. They sometimes gave me doses of the quick-acting insulin; as far as the 24 hour kind, I'm not sure I ever got it. Laying in a hospital bed after a cath/AP/stent placement isn't going to burn up a lot of calories obviously. So I can't buy the idea I might have a hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) reaction.
The procedure was needed considering what they found in the angioplasty, but any food/meds/sleep/activity regimen I had going in is always shot by the time I get out.

A Common Mistake
by DJ inas a jw, i was taught the wrong idea of what the trinity is.
the concept of the trinity does not teach that the father is the son.

DJ,
He emptied himself and took the form of a servant.....but He was also in the form of God and He also did not expect us to grasp or seize that concept. See Philiipians 2:5-8.
Physically He had the form of a man, inside He was the power, mindset, goals, etc., of the Divine? Or is it as you say, a concept humans can't conceive of?

Ravyn,
Thanks for your post concerning my question. Does make it a bit clearer.
You had wondered where people got the idea that "equal" meant "same." I guess it was one of those things I always assumed without thinking it over critically.
DJ,
So when Christ went from Divine to human, He voluntarily became a lesser being while He was on Earth? And after His resurrection regained His Divine nature?

getting along or avoidance.....you decide
by SpiceItUp inin the spirit of minimus, as i just caught his thread about getting along with others here, and it posed a seperate question for me that actually came into play for me yesterday.
i'm not going to go into detail on that but the question remains nonetheless.. where do you draw the line at getting along with someone or merely just avoiding confrontation?
this comes into play in everyones life.

Spice,
when does keeping the peace turn into a cowards way out of not trying to make anyone mad and lead to getting walked on and end up with never taking a stand?
One example would be the case cited earlier of a child locked in a hot car with the windows up. I'd be surprised at (and full of contempt for) anyone who wouldn't do what was needed--try and locate the parent, call the police, even smash the car window--depending on how much obvious distress the child was in.
Years ago I saw a parent beating a child repeatedly for what I considered no good reason. I called Children's Services. Apparently my name was given to the parents because the father (who wasn't there) later let it be known "some people should keep their mouth shut."
Everyone has things that are definite "I'm going to say something" issues, I'm sure. As TJ said, people, the issue, their culture, are going to be some factors that make them choose how to respond. Maybe giving someone a bit of a "pass" now might open up a chance for dialogue and change later?
Speaking up infringing on other's rights...well, if a person criticizes affirmative action in a recently riot-torn city and by doing that increases the chances of mob action against particular minority groups, that's a case for toning it down. Same with using hate speech to work for the defeat of some legislation that "benefits" some group you have a moral issue with--"hate speech" meaning slurs, appeals to stereotypes, etc.
The question of speech infringing like that...a problem here and elsewhere is that ideas are supposed to be what's being batted around, but soon it's people instead. If A says "Here's what I think about ______," and B asks questions with a desire to know more, great. But when B responds with flames, A gets defensive and the mortar rounds fall. Are flame wars inevitable? My guess: no, but sometimes very difficult to avoid.
I'd say that if by one person speaking, that doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights, cool. If the speaker has the power to enforce their view, and does so, that's wrong. For example, a police officer who allows (or let's say doesn't work hard to prevent) vandalism of patron's cars at a strip club, but tickets and harasses the customers for any minor infraction possible. The message sent is obvious, and rights aren't being equally enforced.
To label someone's actions when faced with a series of choices like this as either avoidance or getting alone--how would you score it? What's right for me may be seen as cowardice by someone else.
