  A question for active or recent Elders about apostate judicial meetings...

  in the shepherd the flock book, i did not really notice a protocol for how they judge and go about w/ apostates or those suspected.

  i was wondering if there was a seperate letter or word of mouth instruction on that.

  mainly.......are they told to not let the accused talk about their reasons and get into much detail, or at some point to not talk or listen to them at all, etc.

  The path of a JC committee for apostasy is predictable actually. It always inevitably reaches a fork on the road within minutes of starting, where it can go in two directions.

  The first path is if you play the humble sheep, and say that you " had temporary questions because you read some apostate literature, but have prayed and now realize again that the Watchtower is God's organization". They will then "slap" you around a bit and warn you to keep away from the "devils table". In this situation, the JC will be short and you will get a small slap on the wrist and be on your way.

  Second path is when you start asking hard questions and you bring materials exposing the WT as a scam. Once they realize that you are there in "confrontational mode", the entire focus of the panel is simply to gather enough evidence to support disfellowshipping. So a barrage of questions will come your way always around the subject of the legitimacy of the faithfull and discreet slave. They will not stop questioning you on it, untill they are satisfied that you have admitted that you don't believe the GB is the FDS at which point they will dismiss you.

  Nebuchadnezzar's accession year in 625 B.C.E

  does anyone have info on why the watchtower's view that nebuchadnezzar's accession year was in 625 b.c.e is incorrect.. from the cd rom:.

  jerusalem came under final siege in zedekiahs 9th year (609 b.c.e.

  ), and the city fell in his 11th year (607 b.c.e.

  The Watchtower needs to add 20 years to the beginning of his reign, or else all of the other dates in the babylonian lineage don't match. They do this arbitrarily and without any support.

  WHen it comes to this 607 bc issue, the Watchtower's entire support revolves around fixating on the 70 years of servitude mentioned in the bible, and then counting that back from 539 BC when Babylon was "destroyed". Meanwhile they ignore scores of evidence from multiple sources which corroborate each other, confirming that the destruction of Jerusalem could never have happen in 607BC. It's really physically impossible.

  That specifically was the straw that finally made me shut the door on this cult, because it's evident to me that the leadership clearly knows that they are wrong on this, but are too embarassed or too afraid to let the fallacy crumble for the sake of truth and clarity. Instead they perpetuate this lie to save face and in the process mislead millions.

  maybe these occupations are quoted to make a point, but it loses meaning when maybe 1% of brothers i know actually has these as jobs..

  The intention is logically to make a point that most have labor-based jobs. This is not always a reality especially with the new generation of Jdubs, but as you go back in history it was mostly like that. I know plenty of Jdubs that have cleaning jobs, even in my family.

  our special assembly day is tomorrow, although, i dont live in the states though but still, i wont put the theme of my talk up here; you never can tell, but, i will be mentioning some of the main points i will be highlighting.

  1) how jehovah views secular education.

  2) what should we be doing now with our precious time, considering that we are living at the finishing line of our relay race.. 3) are we heeding to the instructions given by jehovah's bride?'.

  @ Christ Alone - thanks for posting that. That elder is obviously a man of great integrity. I had never heard of someone having the balls to say that from the podium, but i would have to loved to have been there and see the faces of the people in the audience.

  Yeah i don't get the whole Jehovah's bride either. Never heard of that concept.

  In any case, just wanted to say that if i was on the way out, and i had a chance to have a part in a convention, i would go out in a blaze of glory.

  I would stick to the general outline, but i would completely give my version of each point. I'm actually wondering if at some point, someone would come and take me off the stage, but i'm guessing they would probably not interrupt. Then after the part, i would quetly walk off stage and head to my car and never come back.

  What a story i would have to tell my grand kids. Also that would bring instant fame in the JW world. "The brother who had the balls to say it like it is at the podium"..yes yes..

  How many non-believers on the inside

  it's taken me about 7 years after leaving the watchtower, to become actively involved within the exjw communities.

  as part of this i created a couple of videos to, hopefully, help some others.

  but what amazed me was the number of people who have pm'd me via youtube who are still active members of the watchtower - who know it's not the truth - but haven't left.

  I agree that there is a large percentage of Dubs have issues with some of the Watchtower beliefs.

  From personal experience i can tell you that most of these, once reaching this stage of dissonance, look around at other religious groups and see no real alternative, so they figure this is probably still the truth.

  I went through this period as well. I could see the issues, but i kept asking myself " which other religion is better?", and i simply coudn't see anything better, so i stayed. It is only when you realize that no organized religion is the truth, that you take the next step.

  Even when debating with current JWs about issues, the usually reply starts with "Yeah, but..." . This "Yeah, but..." is very significant, as it implies that there is agreement in identifying there are issues, while noticing lack of alternatives. Things like:

  "Yeah, but don't you think Jehovah has to have an organized group on earth?", or " Yeah, but if Jehovah can deal with those issues, why can't you?", or "Yeah, but we are sure Jehovah will resolve that in due time" are typical when a Jehovah Witness has no choice but to admit the glaring error in Watchtower beliefs.

  Folks we are giving way too much credit to the current rank and file members of the brotherhood

  Perhaps a few that actually pay attention to what is said in the meeting will take a step back and think of what this means, but from what i have seen, most of the "brothers" ( and especially the younger strata of the organization) couldnt' care less about trying to understand what anything means. They simply just sit in the meetings like drones counting the minutes to the end, so they can go back to watching TV or go out to dinner.

  I had a chance to speak to my nephew (born in) a few weeks ago, and he had absolutely no idea what anything means ( no idea how you arrive to 1914, no idea that Jesus is the mediator for FDS, no idea what the current generation understanding is, no idea that you can take blood fraction, etc etc etc).

  Yet, he goes out preaching.... The issue is that preaching these days amounts to something like " Hi, isn't the world bad? Please take this magazine and if it's ok i can come back next week to give you another one" .

  It's quite evident that the bright JWs are slowly leaving the Org while behind, slowly remain the too old and too humble to question, too uneducated to reason or too young to care, and to be honest our society has plenty of these types, so the Watchtower should be ok for years to come.

  PLEAAASE modify the captcha logic on this website

  i'm desperately begging to the administrators of this website, to please modify the logic of the captchas used to validate the logins.. they were perfectly acceptable up to sometime in the last few days when they seem to have been modified.

  the level of deciphering needed to read the captchas has gone up tremendously.

  it took me about 30 attempts for this last login.. please revert the logic as it was before, where you had 2 words, one easy to read and another moderately hard to decipher..

  I understand i can, but in reality clicking the refresh button, or clicking the login button takes the same amount of time, and they both bring up a different captcha, except one actually attempts a login

  snake on bedroom floor when I got up this am!

  i woke up and nearly put my foot on a 2ft long snake that somehow got up to the 2nd floor.

  i screamed and ran out of the room and started crying.

  i hate snakes and am terrified of them.

  Did you call the name Jehovah out loud 10 times and rolled up a watchtower to hit the snake on the head? ;)
