Are first world countries to blame for the bulk of third world squalor?

throughout several past threads various posters have emphatically made the point that countries like great britian, united states, france etc.

basically countries where white people exist, are to blame for the poverty in many other third world nations.

some have even went so far as to suggest that the first world is to blame for all third world conditions.. i often see excuses such as these for why a country refuses to provide clean water, some food and basic sanitation for its people:.

Exactly! That's the issue. Is a rich man responsible for the situation of a poor man that lives across town? I'm going to say no to that.

When I drive home everyday, i pass by several housing projects where it's clear that most that live there, spend their days sitting on the porch doing nothing, or wasting time walking around doing nothing useful. Who is at fault for their situation?

On the other hand i see entire families arriving in the country from some asian countries who within a couple of years, are fully integrated with their own business and pursuing education in America. Who is responsible for their situation?

agno who was at the agm whilst posting didn't mention this.. however on a spanish website it was stated that this was mentioned about 10 am.. could it be a translation problem?

that the spanish does not literally translate into basic pioneer?

does anybody have quotes of that portion around 10 am?.

I heard about it too. What a great job at shuffling numbers. This way on the next report they can say that the number of pioneers have increased dramatically. Isn't Jehovah blessing his organization at the right time? Applauuse!

no no no, you have it all wrong.

It's the same concept as the new Bethel construction. It will be there after the big A, so the end can come before that.

What remains to be seen is who is actually going to maintain the networks needed to broadcast via the internet after Jehoober destroys everything.

Are you saying that a JW has the right the defend his home and use deadly force?

What if there was a city made up of JWs, and there was a neighboring town who decided to attack this city so they can pillage and murder everybody. Do the JWs have the right to organize themselves and defend their city? If any JW answers yes to this, then they have just admitted that it's ok to join an army.

Somewhere in the world, there is an extremely poor Jehovah Witness family who can barely afford clothes and food for their kids, they probably walk miles and miles to attend a meeting with their empty bellies, only to hear an annoucement at the meeting that their leaders have just spent millions of dollars in a 24hour internet TV station. Now that must be truly gratifying.

So interesting to see how this is developing. The levels of narcissism of the GB have really exploded.

When I was growing up in the organization, the GB was really unknown to most. Yes we knew they existed, but we wouldn't know who they were if we cross them on the street; even their names weren't really even spoken and most didn't care to know who the individuals were. Now they want to be superstars, they want to be household names and be on TV. This will bring their superstar status to the next level, people will recognize them immediately when they go to a convention or when they are out in public. hail to the kings!!

What does the building of Warwick HQ have to do with the Society's expectation of the end?

this topic is a couple years late, but i just wanted to get this off my chest.

i don't understand why people say that the society starting a project that won't finish until 2017 means that the end can't come until then, or that they don't expect the end before then.

this isn't a very logical line of thought.

Oh wait.....i figured it out why they need to build it now.

The issue is that after the big A, the GB will look around at all the survivors and as they glaze at 7 millions window washers, truck drivers and housewives, they will ask "who here is an architect or engineer?"..... after a long silent pause, they will say " oh Crap!"

By the same logic, why don't JWs argue that the project could just as well be started after Armageddon, when the land, supplies, etc. will be "free".

Exactly. Why spend millions of dollars now building something that would be free to build after the end? Land would be free, supplies would be free just by walking to the hundreds of deserted construction supply stores - walk in, pick up materials and go build it. Manpower would be free of course.

In view of this, the money could be spent now doing other things, like setting up a relief fund for JWs in financial distress, or give the money to the poor. ( ok don't hold your breath on these)

Also why build a structure which could well be destroyed during the big A? There is no evidence that Jehoober would protect it, just like he doesn't protect JWs or Kingdumb halls now.

So instead, while in a few years it will all be free, you choose to spend millions of hard-earned window washer and truck driver saved money in a structure which could well be damaged in a few years.

Still nothing credible?

i can hardly believe that anything new is gonna be announced at the annual meeting.

i mean, there is absolutely no one i know in this organization capable of keeping a secret and we haven't heard anything but "big changes are coming" "just wait and see" "big things are in the works" and my personal favorite posted by one of our members who was told not to diassociate because "things are gonna be announced that will change your mind".. no one i know at the hall or in positions of responsibilty has ever been able to keep anything confidential.

it's always been like the character on in lving color, "i aint one to gossip...but you didn't hear that from me.".

Believe me, NOTHING exciting is in the works. If anything new comes out of it will be bland and predictable - always been like that.

I remember travelling to Canada for an international convention maybe 10 years ago, and the word was that a new important resolution was going to be passed. There was gossip and talk that perhaps preaching would be stopped because the end was so near, or perhaps something equally important.

We were all sitting in the stadium when the resolution was announced. The resolution was something like: "We Jehovah Witnesses have taken a resolution to continue to worship Jehovah faithfully forever".... or something similar. Even then I remember people looking at each other and saying "that's it?"... what a joke.

an odd letter was read at last nights' meeting.

it was in regards to a special campaign for next year arranged by the governing body to go and preach in israel.

the call is going out to anybody that speaks hebrew and english.

Why should it matter if it's safe or not? What happened to Jehoober protecting its people?

Also lodging and food need not be considered either, since surely Jehoober will make sure all of that is taken care of as well. If I go represent my company in another country, they make sure that my lodging and food is taken care of. Jehoober would have to do the same for someone who represents him.

In fact why not make a special campain in Iran and Pakistan? Isn't the need there much greater? Don't those people need to hear the troof? Certainly they do. It also doesn't matter that those countries aren't safe, Jehoober will protect you. C'mon JWs, put your money where your mouth is, just go and trust Jehoober.
