NSA spying on Vatican! My JW parents are SOO EXCITED!

it just came out yesterday that the nsa has spied on the vatican and pope francis.

when i went over my parents house yesterday, you could see the excitement, the energy in their eyes when they talked about it.

my dad even pumped his fist like he won something when he was talking about it.

I almost can't believe that at one point, i actually believed that world governments would destroy organized religion. It truly is a pathetic idea. Organized religion is imploding on it's own, no help will be needed, believe me.

Besides why would governments do this? What a tremendously unpopular idea that would be... political suicide.

In the United States for example, there would need to be a switch to a dictatorship, abolishment or suspension of the constitution. This move would inevitably lead to a civil war, and nationwide rioting and unrest, in a nation which is the most relgious of all developed nations.

No government would fight this war, in order to get rid of something which is not a threat in any way, but instead actually helps keep people in line.

i was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.

i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.

more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

Group number 2 are the ones that frustate me the most.

They will generally defend the Watchtower organization while on the other hand live with a completely different set of standards ( or none) , and do nothing to obey the organization.

This usually brings a sense of guilt that permates their lives since they feel they are never good enough and that God will surely kill them because of the way they live. Sad...

Conspiracy theories.

i'd just like the opions of some of the more clear thinking member on this please:.

let me just start this by saying i don't really buy into conspiracy theories, but sometimes they seem to make sense, i suppose that's the point of them.

all this business with edward snowden seems to add a little more weight to certain conspiracy theories.

We need to realize that 200 - 300 years ago, being a freemason was "the thing". It meant you were evolved, that you were with the thinking people, that you were enlightened. Everybody wanted to be a part of it especially in the higher strata of society.

Because of this, many of the people associated with the foundation of the US were freemasons and this is why there are so many symbols associated with freemasonry in government legacy items. At that time, they were truly powerful.

Today there are large groups of people who have hidden agendas - sure. They still make the world turn in many ways. They are not driven by ideals as the freemasons were. Today is about money and power.

Just look at the Eye on the dollar bill, that was pointed out as being a symbol of Freemasonry, many years ago. All sorts of theories abounded because of it.Yes, the Freemasons use it, but they did not use it before it was on the dollar bill. (So now we are told it is an Illuminati sign,..... yea right).

Not really.... It was added to the dollar bill under the new design by president Roosevelt in 1935. The freemasons have been using it since 1797. The US Govnmt did use it prior to that as part of the great seal though.

Ran into a witnessing table at the park today

i just got in from my daughters homecoming(she is a cheerleader and these guys make a huge deal out of this stuff).

they play 3 football games of various age groups.

it starts at 8 in the morning and just ended at 1:30. i just got in the house literally 5 minutes ago and i had to share.

Wow...that is simply amazing!!. And that is supposed to be urgent life-saving work? Someone goes up to them and says hi and they simply ignore them and don't use the opening to preach something?

@confusedandalone - you are way too nice i think. Maybe i'm an a$$hole, but i'm pretty sure i would embarass them on the spot with a few comments.

Preaching is truly evolving into something that requires absolutely no effort. These younger publishers are much more aware of their conforts, than the older crowd.

I recall before i left, i would see some JWs standing outside the train station holding a magazine hoping that someone would stop and pick one up, and i remember thinking how lazy they were. But now this type of approach is becoming more popular, whether it's using literature carts or street stands.

It's all about coming up with the hours somehow.

Yes, but isn't there a book that says God exists, and that lions and bulls will eat straw together in the future? Certainly, if there is a book that says it, it must be true. ;)

JW Unofficial App

so i'm sure everyone here knows about the new jw library app.

i was looking around in google play at some different apps pertaining to the jws.

i found something a little different.

For example, if JW Facts had an app, what would it offer that isn't possible by just opening a browser to their website?

I have been working on an app for TTATT. I actually have about 80% of it done. The idea came, not because of the fact that thousands/millions of JWs will be searching for the new JW Library app on the apple app store.

I decided to make one because i wanted JWs to see the app on their results as they search for JW library in the apple app store. Perhaps a percentage will decide to install it.

The issue i have is that obviously, i don't have the time to compile research like some of the TTATT websites have done, so i contacted Paul at JWFacts and asked if he would be ok with having his website provide content for my app. I even offered to have my App be called JWfacts and be an extension of the website.

He has not responded yet - i'm even wondering if he is seeing my emails. If he never responds or declines sharing his content, i will still finish the app and load it on my Ipad only, because it's easier to navigate on a mobile device and you can be offline to access content.

How I recently handled JWs at my door

the jws stopped by my house a couple weeks ago on a saturday morning.

i knew that with others most likely waiting for them out in the car they probably did not then have much time to engage in any serious conversation.

so i let them talk while i feigned interest in what they had to say.

I am an Atheist I think all religion is BS, but when dealing with JW's you need to show that their cult doesn't follow the bible as they claim, which is why I like this approach.

This is the key!! If the idea is to make JWs think, then you must avoid expressing atheist views at all costs. If your argument is that Jehovah is an imaginary man in the sky and the bible is a book of fairy tales, the door of "reasoning" will be immediately shut on you.

The approach must be that the Watchtower society is not doing what Jehovah wants, become "doing what Jehovah wants" is a friendly thought. Many JWs will become atheist with time, after leaving the organization, but this will rarely be a starting point.

My decision to openly greet df persons in the hall

at the moment i am still going to all the meetings (for family reasons).. we have at the moment 1 df person who regularly comes (already df for 1.5 years).. when i opened him the door i always greeted him but in the hall i didn't as others could see it.. now i decided that my conscience can not bear this any longer.

i will greet him also in the hall or when others are around.. if any elders notice it and talk to me, i tell them my conscience does not allow to not greet that person.. did any of you do that too and have some experiences?.

I remember one time, a young sister was DFed and she was really loved by everybody. In the months that followed dozens of JWs were seen associating with her. It got so bad that the PO had to give a "special needs" talk about it, and he warned that anybody that continued to do it would be DFed too.

Another angle on this issue is when you see someone who you know is DFed but you haven't seen him for years so they don't know you are "out". Happened to me the other day when i saw one at a bowling alley.

I go up to him and say :

" Hey xxxx, how's it going?"

Him: " Hi C, i'm good, but not sure if you know... i'm DFed".

Me: " Oh i know, but i don't give a $hit about what those fuck3rs say..

No further explanations were needed!!
