Why doesn't god do anything tangible now?

i was always told that god did loads of stuff that was evidence of his existance.

ususally very brutal things too (b#st@rd).. jesus walked on water and raised the dead we are told.. it seems to me also that the older the story, the more exaggerated it is...y'know...talking snake......global flood.. there are those that claim god speaks to them now and they alone 'know' it.

Heck, if I saw even a SHRED of compelling evidence, I'd be FORCED to believe in God, due to my commitment to rationalism.

This summarizes it well. I simply cannot rationalize the idea that god, having the ability to make us believe in him so easily, refuses to do so.

JW.org to be banned in Russia

my facebook was "lit up" today with all the out cries about the possibility of the organization's website being banned in russia.. as many of you recall this past august a court in russia banned the website and sought to make accessing the website in russia illegal.

well tomorrow the appeal by the org will be heard in court.

if the appeal is denied, jw.org will no longer be available in that part of the world, causing endless lamentations and cries of "persecution", only to bolster the idea that they are truly hated by the world because they are true christians.

How do Jehovah's Witnesses get from 1914 to 1919?

hi guys and gals,.

i have written an article that explains how the watchtower society gets from 607 bce to 1914 (http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/faqs/why-is-1914-important/) but i need some input so that i can write an article on how they get from 1914 to (via 1918) 1919.. are we talking about ezra, 1:2-4 when the persian king cyrus allows the israelites to go and rebuild the temple 3 and a half years after exiling them?

if so, how has the watchtower used this passage to get to 1919??.

From i recall it has to do with Nebuchadneezar and the time he spent as a wild beast and insane, although that was seven years.

How ridiculous. Variation is something that happens within a specie for example like humans. There are variations in humans.

Now does variation cause all the species we see today? Well...yes. But those same genetic changes over a long period of time which cause a new specie are no longer called variation. It's evolution.

Wow. Yes those genetic adaptations when observed in a small time frame are less significant. We could qualify them as microevolution. But when you observe them in a large time frame are more significant so they are called macro evolution. It's the same stuff. The only difference is the time frame used to observe the changes.

i was already on my way to my second fade when i went to the wildlife photographer of the year 2012 exhibition, but this photo made me lose faith in the idea of a loving creator......(the gazelle has been injured by the mother cheetah so she can use it to train her cubs to hunt).

I'm sure some uber-dub will say Satan caused it without considering that such a statement would put Satan equal to God with creative powers.

At least Satan had a better concept it seems. He setup a food chain structure to maintain a balance in the eco system. It seems Jehoober just decided to drop a bunch of animals on the planet without any organization.

The water would have mixed destroying the suitable habitat for countless number of species.

I actually never thought of this. Very true. There would no longer be separation between salt and fresh water.

If God's purpose is for everybody to believe in him, what possible reason is there for him not making us believe in him?

For example, if god was to cure all cancer tomorrow. Would you believe he exists? I would, and possibly millions of others. What possible reason is there for God not moving his pinky finger and curing all cancer?

How about if God made food grow all over the ground in all of the desolate countries in Africa where people are starving? Would that make you believer? I know i would jump on board. So why doesn't god do it?

What if God had an organization which was 100 percent accurate and consistent all the time? Would you believe that organization? Yes i would. So what possible reason is there for God not making sure of that, but instead exposing "his organization" to repeated failure?

See the point?

If you believe in the flood, you have to believe god is a workaholic. In order for his cockamamie plan to work, he has to perform billions of miracles large and small.

Exactly! I honestly get depressed to think i was dumb enough to believe this.

Even if god wanted to take this idiotic approach at saving two animals of each specie, why would he try to stuff them in an ark? How did the animals get there? God made all animals fly over the oceans to get there? Who collected all the food for all the animals for all those days? How did all these unique foods which they eat get to the middle east? Did God make the food fly as well?

There are around 25 - 50 millions species of animals. There is a million species of birds alone. No, birds can't fly for 40 days. Double that you have 50 - 100 million animals. They fit in a box 450 ft long? Who cleaned all that $hit everyday? 8 people did it?

Where did all that water go?

If i was jehoober, i would gather a few brain cells and decide to send a few angels to earth and kill all the people and animals and save myself from a logistical nightmare.

Lol...who cares about archeology anyway. I guess these must be those dinosaurs that live 5000 years ago... You can't make this stuff up.

It makes as much sense as the idea that God created predators with bodies perfectly adapted to hunting and eating meat, but the plan is actually to make them eat grass and straw in paradise.
