As a law enforcement veteran of over 20 years my short answer is - yes. Here is my long answer -
So, by all means, cut police department budgets, but do so to fund other services. I

Ok but the sequence of events is not really by starting to defund police. If you want to say we should invest in other services that are best suited to handle social problems, then great. There is enough money to do that if we stop misusing it.

However, even if at some point some calls for service are answered by other responders, it doesn't mean that the police now have nothing to do. In many depts the volume of calls is so great that low priority calls can take hours to get a response, and the same goes for trying to get the police to investigate anything that is not a serious crime.

IMO, invest in other services first and re-evaluate after some time, how resources match demand.

White privilege has to do with implicit bias and how you are perceived by others. IN GENERAL (because of course there are always outlying examples) a white person can walk down the street without someone assuming they are a thug, or a criminal, or uneducated, or a danger or a threat.

I've said this before I'll say it again. People profile others based on observation. Young black males account for about 50% of violent crime in America despite being a small percentage of the nation. Does that mean all black males are criminals? Of course not, but when people see the same type of folks in the news and media as responsible for large amount of crimes, this has an effect.

And this is not really about race. A 70 year old black man does not invoke that fear, neither does a middle age black woman, nor a teenager black girl.

This is not just the responsibility of the larger population to force their minds not to have this fear, though I would argue everyone needs to be given a chance to show what their worth. But the people being profiled also have some responsibility to help change stereotypes.

When italians came to this country they were victims of persecution and stereotyping.They had a really tough time being accepted and being integrated. What happened? Did they protest and demand that society change their mind? Well, no. They simply began gaining the trust and admiration from others to the point where over the years they were fully accepted.

Anywhere you see black students, you get a few that claim that it is "acting too white" if anyone actually takes their education seriously

Yup and that goes for speaking with proper grammar as well, or being clean cut in appearance. Been to prison? Well that give you "street cred". The values and expectations within the community are backwards in many ways.

Course nobody should want that. That is just part of the mob hysteria created from this incident. It's sad to see the weak leaders of several cities bend over to the mob and actual plan to partially defund the police dept.

If anything, there should more investment, and that should be channeled to better training and increase salaries to start attracting better talent.

Defunding the police will not only result in more crime, but will result in being a less attractive job for the brightest and smart people in the country.

No, but equally preposterous is the idea that Castile politely informed Yanez that he was in possession of a firearm before attempting to pull it out and shoot armed police officers.

I dont disagree. I think Castile probably was forthcoming in telling the officer he had a gun and then likely made a movement that led the officer to think he was touching/reaching for it. The officer likely overreacted.

But that's the thing, nobody is defending the police here. It certainly isn't an example of good police work but it's not of racism either.

Human chaos exists in all walks of life. There is no need to take advantage of human chaos to pursue an anti-establishment agenda. Bad cops kills people. Bad doctors kill people. Bad soldiers kill people. And bad people kill people. We just need to keep correcting for these things.

There is a way to solve it. Eliminate or drastically reduce your encounters with the police. How? Don’t break the law, don’t walk around in a hoodie looking suspicious in 80 degree weather is a start. This is not about race like the dumb fucking media is selling.

Finally, the truth. Perhaps to just add something...don't resist arrest. Why is it that every single one of these videos starts with someone who believes they get to decide if they go to jail or no. Stop being stupid. Be courteous, be respectful and 99.99 percent you get that back. If you get a cop that hates the world and is an asshole, just go along with it and use the legal system.

Do you really think that a cop would shoot a white man after being informed by that same white man that he is a licensed gun owner?

Did you see what happened inside that car? You actually think that he simply said he was a gun owner and the cop pulled out a gun and shoot him....smh.

No that's not as serious as being killed by police, but I guarantee you that if he had been a white female, or even a white male, he would have had no problems with communicating with that judge

What a ridiculous example of racism. Let's see... a pretty young girl getting preferential treatment. Gees what a shocker. I've been home and wondering what is crossing people's minds to feel that they to join this race bait protest. I understand now who is protesting.

Here is the problem with the above statement. You need to look at the situation from their point of view and not just about "unsupported by evidence" Here is a quote from Wikipedia
If your wife tells you that she is afraid to go out alone and gives you the talk about women being attacked and victimized. I hope you will not throw stats back at her by saying

Wrong. if my wife says that she is afraid to go out alone and the stats show that this has not happened, then I will sit her down and explain that despite what she thinks, the evidence shows that this is a safe area.

I will almost certainly not encourage her to go outside and protest for something that is likely in her head.

I'm sure the police have their cruiser and body cam footage which for obvious reasons hasn't been released (doesn't fit the narrative the mayor of Minneapolis and their Antifa-supporter AG wants to create)

It really is baffling how the body cam footage has not been released. There is no downside to releasing it if the goal is to show what really happened. If the body cam footage showed that the cops threw him down for no reason, then not much changes since the protesters already assume that.
If it shows he resisted then at least it gives a bit of credibility as to the reason why he was on the ground.

she lost me when she started to throw around statistics comparing Black/White deaths..If your child was shot by someone, the last thing you want to hear is, "Madam, do you know that what happened to your child has 1 in a million chance of happening in your street". In the eyes of a grieving mother, the stats are irrelevant.

Sure, but this comparison is essential to understand if the narrative is valid. If the narrative is that the police is actively only targeting blacks, then how would you validate that if not by numbers? Numbers don't lie even if each personal loss is a tragedy.
