a young man had been disfellowshipped for over ten years, during which time his father, mother, and four brothers "quit mixing in company" with him.
at times, he tried to involve himself in their activities, but to their credit, each member of the family was steadfast in not having any contact with him.
my issue with gods command is that the disfellowship decision falls on the word of the elders. not the family. so the family turns their back on someone by the command of man. not through their own knowledge.
these loving christians are selfish traitors who turn their backs unscripturally. nowhere in the scripture does it say to shun by command of a spirit driven organization. yet millions do.

suppose a small group of people in the united states decide that they want to start a religion.
does united states law and the constitution give them this right?
after thinking about it, i'm not so sure.. they can certainly meet and talk about the bible or religion.
the modern world was founded by people who had their hands in the church cookie jar. all god fearing men who had a vision of the church taking precedent over government.
if the world would remove that annoying clause of seperation of church and state then i am sure the global budget could be balanced and people would be more selective about the religion they choose.
it would also force corporate religions to reform in an attempt to make a profit thereby exposing their motives. imagine how long the watchtower would last if they had to pay taxes.
the study edition of their magazines would include some misquote from jesus in an attempt to extort more money. probably when jesus said to give away all your things. seems like their m.o.
it would be hard to recruit after that since it takes brainwashing to be okay with giving men all of your hard earned money in the name of god. so eventually they would have to close membership.
at that point they would be forced to become publically radical. let the world know what us dedicated few had to hunt down. this would saddle them with 7 million recruits. but since many dont buy into the wts bs as it is...
i predict they would lose two million members before upping the anty to a traditional cult of threatening the lives of friends and family of those who leave.
another million would leave before they started doing their rendition of a waco.
was working last month with a guy of algerian dissent who had lived in london for many years, who turned out to be hard core in his islamic beliefs , needing to pray a certain amount of times a day, wanting to skive off work early each night to pray and took a 2 and a half hour lunch break one friday so he could find a mosque ffs!
anyway we got talking about our belief system's ( i knew more about islam/the prophet/quran) then he did, but it turned out that he said he had offered me the light that muslims are supposed to give non believers, and if they reject the message then they are condemned to hell!
i spoke about my agnostic/deist belief and how much his message compared similarly with that of fire and brimstone style of christianity, he claimed that the quran amalgamated many of the ancient beliefs of judaism/christianity/buddhism etc and were penned so as to give mankind the message from the final prophet mohammad who had received these revelations through an angel(all bullshit of course) i went on to speak about the many flaws found in the bible notably the impossibility of the flood , the contradictions of the creation, right down to the possible evidence that jesus christ may never have even existed!

before everyone gets the wrong idea about creating an "empowering jws" forum, this forum would be for serious campaigners to exchange ideas about helping jws by either influencing the wtbts to change or planting seeds of doubt in jws, and would not be for promoting the wtbts nor its policies.. since jwn threads have gotten so numerous and effectively using jwn's search engine is a mystery to me, i believe that creating a forum for posting ideas to awaken jws would benefit both jws and exjws, who want to do more than debate religion and relate how they were abused by the wtbts/jws, and who want to help awaken loved ones.
i feel that the forum should be named "empowering jws" to paraphrase steven hassan's book "releasing the bonds: empowering people to think for themselves" and because i do not want to alienate jws with doubts be calling it something derogatory that may raise a jw's persecution phobias.. also, jwn might appear more welcoming to jws, if there was a recommendation that posters refrain from labeling jws jdubs, borg, witlesses, etc.
i know that many members of this forum were hurt by the policies of the wtbts and that some jws were jerks to them, but that does not mean that all jws are jerks.. peace be with you and everyone, who you love,.

I am not a Witness, never have been, never will be (unless I was single and she was hot enough). I am one of the few on this site that is lucky enough to say that honestly and with pride.
But in my experience on this site, most people tend to be nice to the Witnesses that talk directly to them. There is some bitterness but it's been earned, so it's hard to pitch an idea that involves looking past the treatment the Watchtower gave them. I truly learned that the hard way, but it's okay.
I watched a video on youtube that caught my interest because it was called "kneejerk reactions and no bjs for eternity." I totally misread it, but there is a line I found truly interesting. The video can be found here:

The line is "would you really want to live an eternity with other Jehovah's Witnesses?" Witnesses are the same mix of people, good and bad. But given the proper command by the Society, they will turn their backs on you in a heartbeat. They will slander and mudsling and harass without a second breath.
As long as the Society is involved, no matter how cool an active Witness is, or how nice they are to you, they are prepared to be remorselessly degrading to you at the drop of a hat. The nicknames may be a turnoff but I feel the JWN doesn't need advertisements when all it takes is for a Witness to ask a question of the Governing Body and not like the answer they give. Then the traffic to JWN picks up.
everyone has been a big help in pointing me in the right direction on resources - i hope i can ask for another thing.. i am looking for the actual "scan" or "pdf" of the booklet "preparing for child custody cases".

all the dangers of social networking. i guess it helps to mention how awful the experience can be.
but quickly people forget that in recent years facebook alone has helped people more than its hurt people.
the tsunami in japan. earthquakes in china and south america. even haiti. social networking helped people find the missing or injured.
in egypt and libya it helped people organize a revolution to end tyranny. it helps small businesses and the self employed to get their name out there and make a brand out of themselves.
yes people use it irresponsibly but that is because those certain people are irresponsible. but instead of cutting off what could be a life line to those people by condemning it for its so called evils...educate.
the wts will educate over semantics of what words its people will use. it will educate over its interpretations of things. but not the internet. not social networking.
my sister in law is a witness with a facebook account. she doesnt add anyone she doesnt know. she doesnt add anyone who isnt a witness. and she keeps her profile private and restricted to those people she adds.
does this mean she is in danger to the perils of social networking.
no. she is smart about it. if the wts would take the time to instruct and ensure their chosen people were making the smart decisions instead of showing little faith in their followers there would be a world of difference in the positive for them.
if they have an issue with people going on the internet and seeing the scores of watchtower publications that can bite them in the butt then they need to openly approach that issue with their people.
tell them the views of others in the early years of the society can be found easily on the net and that it does not reflect the brighter light of jehovah and the knowledge of truth today.
that is the approach to take if they want to remain dishonest with people.
if they want to be honest then they can just admit they are not backed by the holy spirit and still find a way to convince people they are somehow still the most accurate form of truth and that they are working to nail the perfect understanding with bumps in the road along the way.
but then they couldnt disfellowship anyone. damn.

with some of you i must disagree. the past was much better and happier for me. i was accepted to avatar press for a job. i had a list of friends and family that could be trusted. and i was happier.
but in 2007 my older brother died. i met a girl who made me cut off all connections. i couldnt leave texas for a professional comic book penciler job because she wouldnt leave.
so now all i have to my being is my name and my word without much light left on a pleasant future. so i think i am going to view the past with a much happier outlook.
the only positive things about my life now is that my brother dying is the single event that kept me from joing the wts.
