it has just been added the netflix catalogue here in australia and i am looking forward to finally watching it.. please, if you've seen it, no spoilers!.

I have read the book, not seen the Movie. I have also read the comments of the book's Author, he was not setting out to expose the JW belief system as the rubbish that it is, that is our job, he wrote a Novel. But, a Novel based upon a real Case, and he sticks much to the facts of the Case, but of course dramatises the lives of the protagonists.
The sad truth about the real boy in the story/case, is that eventually he went back to the JW's, and died for lack of a Blood Transfusion.

.What do you think the JDubs will be told to say ? To the Public ? A Public that will have seen the T.V progs. on this issue, and so will actually have much more factual information than the JDub !
Here in the U.K we had recently an excellent expose on the national T.V on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire prog. it contained NOT ONE factual error, and I am sure Trey Bundy's Doc on Oxygen will be equally accurate.
How will JW's try to counter this ?

Here in the U.K the Priest Penitent relationship is not protected by Law. So here the JW's have NO excuse for not reporting even a hint of Abuse of a vulnerable person, STRAIGHT AWAY to the Authorities, those trained to deal with it.
How often have they ever done that here in the U.K ? Rarely I would guess. One Elder that I always respected, went to an Elders meeting where they divulged that they knew for sure of a case of abuse by a JW against his daughter and another child, that Elder stood up and said " I don't know about your brothers, but I am going straight to the Police ". Good for him.
A few years later we had a case of a lad around 16 abusing at least one young girl of around 4 years old (sick). One Elder told me that they were not going to involve the Authorities, and mentioned they "had to keep confidentiality", I said " No you DO NOT", pompous prat The Elder had to go and check, presumably with Bethel, he then later told me I was right, and the Authorities were involved, I think though I am right in saying the Parents did this first, because of the dithering of the Elders.
The whole JW situation is a mess of huge proportions, and all because they will not put a proper Programme of Safeguarding in place, and do not instruct their Elders, and parents, to contact the Authorities forthwith. Which is the Moral duty of these people.. Disgusting.

funny, when the news exposed the catholic church she turned the volume up.. at least 20 former jehovah's witnesses are suing the group over historical sexual abuse they say they suffered.the group has a policy of not punishing alleged child sex abuse unless a second person, alongside the accuser, has witnessed it - or an abuser confesses.it says its elders "comply with child-abuse reporting laws even if there is only one witness", though, and always tell police if a child is in danger.but one former elder said it had been failing to involve the authorities.john viney, who says he was abused between the ages of nine and 13, by "a distant family member who was an active jehovah's witness", added children were still being abused and the religious organisation was "inadvertently" protecting their abusers.

This is worrying, and a lie of course:
" A Jehovah's Witnesses spokesman said: "The only way that a child abuser can gain access to children in a religious organisation like ours, which does not have any programmes that separate children from their parents, is through parents themselves."
Blaming the parents ? why ? to try to minimise the Org's responsibility for what happened, and to try to reduce compensation. As usual, no thought, support or love for the poor victims.
I know how they will spin that statement if it is challenged, but they have deliberately worded it that way, for obvious reasons, as above, and lots of JW's saying to themselves " Oh yes, it must have been the parents fault". They really are Evil.

The programme was excellent, not ONE factual error ! a good job too, JW's would dismiss the whole thing if there was one.
I noticed in the statement from the Org that there latest ploy is to say " in an Organization such as ours the only way someone could access a child for abuse is through the parents" !!!!!!!
They are now trying to shift the blame for their lack of Safeguarding on to the parents ! Then they won't have to pay compensation.
The prog. is available on BBC i player now for those in the U.K, JW item starts about 5 minutes in.

I wonder how the old ones at my old hall feel about this ? we built it ourselves entirely, no RBC in those days, we financed it ourselves entirely, the land it was built on was donated by a local J.W.
Ever since the Congregation has paid for upkeep and refurbishments.
Now it is a valuable asset the org wants it, for nothing.
Scandalous.

First Proper Chat With the JWs in Almost 11 Years
by passwordprotected insince disassociating in october 2008, i've had little to no direct contact with the jws, apart from immediate family members (ie my parents).
i've lived in my rented flat since may 2014 and haven't had a knock on the door in that whole time.
until saturday morning.

Well done PWP ! that is the only way to treat JW's fairly, with respect, and gentle words that may reach their hearts. Looking back over the years it took me to wake up, and finally leave, I realise that it was people who treated me as you treated these ladies, that made me think, and gave me stuff that nagged at me.
A seed planted often takes a while to start to grow, but you never plant such a seed if you attack, or come over as feeling superior to them, the empathetic " I was once like you" is what works.
