The Sanitizing of David
by Doug Mason inthe bible depicts king david as a deeply flawed, unsavory character, the perpetrator of evil acts including: murder, insurrection, adultery, banditry, and extortion.
the sanitizing of david’s character during the following centuries and millennia created an image that idolizes him as the paragon of virtue, closely associated with the promised messiah.
my study identifies the davidic sanitizing process.. https://www.academia.edu/s/390a7ba170?source=link .

When did JWs stop reciting the Lord’s Prayer together?
by slimboyfat indoes anyone know what year?
.
-
Phizzy
J.W's never did that in my time, I was born in to the "religion" in 1950, and always the reciting of prayers by rote was condemned as wrong based upon Jesus' words.
Was your experience different in the J.W's ? I find that strange if so. Rogue Congregation ?

by LoveUniHateExams inso, i was wondering what are the funniest insults i've heard/been called.. the woman who taught me the arabic alphabet did a lesson about insults in colloquial palestinian arabic.. the one that stuck out to me was iniqbir or ini'bir.

Hi folks, just to let you know that this Old Fart is still alive, but that I too have decided my time here is over as to commenting, I will pop in and read from time to time, just to keep an eye on the old place, but I shall not be commenting, as I have spent far too much time on here over the years.
I will be eternally grateful to this site, and to Simon for starting it, and continuing to keep it going, as I have written before, this place, well the wonderful Posters on here, literally saved my life. But now I have a lot of other things that I battle for, and I feel all you lot are capable of looking after any JW Newbies that may show up.
But be aware that I will be reading on here, so don't be too silly ! but continue to be as naughty as you like !
All the best to all of you in the future !

your last big assembly
by stan livedeath incan you remember the last big assembly you went to ?
by big--i mean bigger than a circuit job--so--district ?
whole country at a stadium thing.. my last one was old wembley stadium uk..about 1969 ?
-
Phizzy
Mine was the District Assembly of 2006, I was just beginning to wake up fully. I remember being miserable there. I think I attended one small Circuit Assy. after that but can't be sure. I certainly never did another biggie, I just did not go to the 2007 District Assy, nobody, not even my J.W family, noticed, and by 2008, March, I was gone for good.
I just wish I had been like Stan, and woken up far earlier, but Hey Ho, no Internet, and being a bit Thick, it took me a lot longer.

''Deliverance at Hand''. Now 15 years on &....
by Beth Sarim in....and still no big 'a'.
armageddon.. it was 15 years ago dubland was in lala dream-like almost trance-like state hanging on the notion the big 'a' was imminent.. it was ironic.
ironic at that time was when.... i was starting my long waking-up process.
-
Phizzy
Was the Theme of the District Conventions in 2006 " Deliverance at Hand " ? or was it a book or something ?
I do know that the 2006 one was the last District Convention I ever attended, but of course cannot remember the Theme or any of the Talks ha ha, J.W's can't remember the contents of the Talks two weeks after !
The one thing I can be sure of is that I had by then got no belief in the imminence of Armageddon or anything, and was starting the process of fully waking up.
So, 15 years ago, I had really taken my first tentative steps on the Road to Freedom !

Lloyd Evans keeps doing parts on how the JWs are guilty of follwing the bible.
by mickbobcat ini have been watching evans videos for a while.
he keeps attacking the cult for following the bible.
women are to be subservient to men.

steve 2, I suppose if I can find time I ought to watch one or two of L.E's vids where he criticises the Bible itself. But just to clarify what I mean by "what the bible actually says" , I do not mean the mere words, but what the Writer was trying to convey, not what some people say the writer says.
Just as an example, it would be easy to say the Bible story of Sodom and Gomorrah shows the Bible is against gay people, is that what the Writer was on about ?
As I say, I need to watch the vids, to see how deep Evan's understanding is, and if he is justified or not. Certainly any criticism of the Bible as being the Word of God etc IS justified.

The King of the North and the South, who are they now?
by Anony Mous ini know several wit-lesses that to date are researching these topics.. however i haven't heard much from any publications recently about it, i think the latest refresh was ~10 years ago.
since then the power of the us has severely diminished (or at least the rhetorics about it has), russia is a small potato in modern era, the eu is a cowardly dog in the eyes of everyone and we have the rise of china which is as far as military might is concerned, a paper tiger.. we also have the rise of islam, especially since the end of the nato nation-building effort in afghanistan which is now in power in most of the middle east and africa, as well as regions of asia and growing strong in europe.. does anyone have noooo light about these developments.
is islam the king of the south?

The writer of Daniel made little attempt at prophecy, when he did, he failed, as when predicting the death of Antiochus 1V, .... he got it wrong, and did not realise it had actually happened as he wrote.
It is a Politco/Religious Tract for its day, which was at the very end of Antiochus' reign, circa 164 C.E., it was never intended to "point forward" to our, or any future time.
The Apocalyptic style predictions were typical of the genre, but in this case may well have been included more to mask its real intention, that of castigating the rulers of the day.
