  there is a new approach to ministry where the direction is to just talk to people and listen to what they want to talk about.

  the new school for the midweek meeting is completely different and is all about the new approach .

  even before the no reporting changes field service dropped right off.

  I am sure you are right Mike, "soft shunning" is no more. In another Thread I say how I have received three visits in three weeks or so from J.W's who, now thinking about it, "soft Shunned" me for decades.

  We chatted on each visit in a normal non-JW way, no religion at all, but I guess all these people can still count their time now ?

  Back in my day, if you did not mention religious ideas at all you could not count the time !

  There is both a new approach to the ministry, and a new approach to those who have been out of the Org. for years, do they think they may sucker some back in ?

  Again, More confusion about the direction of the Watchtower Society

  hi friends, i have not been on this board in awhile, and i would like to get some thoughts from some of you.

  i have noticed a change within my 4 siblings in approximately the last year and a half to 2 years regarding their communication with my mother and i. they have either phoned us, texted, emailed, or written a letter or card to us.

  the conversation has been good, and on any topic that comes to mind.

  We have recently had three visits that were unexpected, a sibling I had not seen for several years, who specifically came from abroad for a short holiday just to see us, another close relative, an Elder, and then another Elder, and his wife, not relatives, but I knew them from when they were babies.

  Something must have changed ! after all these years, three in a row ? I am in the U.K, so this must be an Org. wide thing ??

  All were careful not to talk "religion", or even stray close to it, but all were very pleasant, and as normal as a JW can be !

  The last guy, the non-relative Elder, I know is somewhat awake, I am hoping he may visit me without his wife, so we can talk openly. He seemed to be very conscious that she was there, and she is still thoroughly indoctrinated, but she is a lovely person.

  " It’s very clever and I have to admit it’s working." True, and therefore it MUST have come from outside advisors they have Hired. The Holy Spirit was obviously too busy to guide them on this.

  I say it must have come from a "Worldly" Company, because the G.B. and all at the top just do not have the gumption or intelligence to come up with this on their own.

  It will help with Retention to a degree, but it will make being a J.W ONLY in name so very easy, and even those people eventually will say "sod it, why bother at all ?"

  The Org. is in a downward spiral, thankfully.

  What has not been mentioned in this Thread is that Paul taught, clearly in Chapter 4, that the "End" was imminent , and he believed both him ans his friends he was writing to would be "Raptured" if you like LOL, very soon, and that he and they would not die before this event, though when that would be could not be calculated.

  The phrase "We who are alive" , emeis pou imaste zontanoi , in vs 17 has been twisted by later Christians, and J.W's, right down until this day, it unequivocally shows what I said above about Paul's expectation of when the "End" would be.

  This is why a "Later Hand" wrote 2nd Thessalonians, because by that time, some 50 years almost after 1 Thess, Paul's prediction had clearly failed.

  Old Greek Daniel's Son of Man

  again this is large topic, some of which has been discussed elsewhere on this site.

  the basic question i want to discuss is the identification of the 'someone like a son of man" in daniel 7. as we all know christians understood the figure to be the messiah (christ), so the question posed is did the author intend it to be a singular personage or a collective symbol of the holy of israel as jews typically read it?

  or how about the unexpected idea that the "someone like a son of man" was the very same character as the "ancient of days" in another role?.

  Thanks for the Link PP, to the paper by Dr. Trevore, I have not seen this claim by anyone else, but may have missed it, how did other Scholars receive his hypothesis about the T of R ?

  I always suspected in my latter years of being in, that even the D to D work as it was then was mainly just to keep J.W's busy, and feeling they actually were preaching, and maybe teaching.

  Now that is ALL it is, something to keep J.W's a bit busy, to feel they are "doing their bit", in a way that is simply not at all onerous for them, most hated D to D, they can get away with doing none now.

  Converts from the public are now totally a thing of the past, unless a J.W comes across the rare Gullible Fool !

  Marvellous ! The Org. is determined to make it as easy as possible for J.W's to stay in the Org. This means that the ones leaving or becoming inactive, has them really worried. Now there is more incentive to stay, and do Fake Ministry, Report this Sham Time spent, and be counted as active.

  Many, even though being aware it is all Bullshite will be happy to stay, as it is their Social Club, and they don't want a rift with family.

  The funny thing is that in the latter years of being in and slowly waking up, this is EXACTLY the kind of "Ministry" I used to do ! I worked it that I rarely went D to D with another JW, saying I felt I had more conversations when I was alone at the door.

  Admittedly I was more conscientious than today's JW's will be in the main, and turned the conversation toward what I was supposed to be there for on a lot of occasions, and placed loads of magazines. My Report was honest as to actual time spent, but my "ministry" would have been frowned upon by other J.W's had they known what I was up to. Now it is Officially sanctioned !

  The Org. is struggling with retention, and losing, will this + beards help put a finger in the Dyke ? ( No, that is a metaphor, not a Euphemism !) LOL.

  If this makes little difference to Retention, what will they ease up on next I wonder ? Their options must be small !
