  Will the Borg ever do what the WCG did?

  whilst not endorsing any of the beliefs or doctrines of this group i found it really interesting that once herbert armstrong died it had a major overhaul of it's beliefs and practices (very similar in a cultish way to jws).

  apologising for it's errors and putting things right.

  it became less judgemental, more encompassing of other christian faiths.

Apologising for it's errors and putting things right. It became less judgemental, more encompassing of other christian faiths. Putting more emphasis on love and forgiveness than obeying rules. Dumping all the millenialist stuff and in the process losing thousands of members. Now it's more mainstream christianity. It just got me to wondering, what if this happened to the WT? Only trouble is, the WT seems to be getting more hardline and delusional every year.

  what a list of new friends we have on this forum, i don't know if i'll ever be able to keep up, but that's ok.. i wanted to dive in to the post to talk about the memorial.

  i do not have any intentions of going, even if i was invited.

  With family still in, I feel I have to attend but watching the bread and wine being passed round feels to me like a rejection. 'Thanks Jesus, but not for me!' My thoughts are that all christians should partake. There is nowhere in the scriptures that say there are two types of christian and one type partakes and the other doesn't. So I partake privately on my own. It feels the right thing to do.

  Is this a site controlled by atheists?

  under the exterior of being an ex- witness site, is this site simply converting atheism?.

  i pose the question, because many come here in distress and insecurity with the realization that the w.t is wrong but still retain a belief in god.

  my personal opinion is the threads on god are not challenged by an atheists personal animosity to believers, they are challenged and become confrontational because the atheist wants an elaboration and factual proof to a believers faith.. is this unreasonable?

  I've been a member of this site for 4 years now and whilst I've noticed there are a lot of atheists there are also many theists too. I would take a guess though that the vast majority are now agnostic and just want to get on and have a happy enjoyable life without being bothered by anything to do with religion.

  I do think it's a shame though when someone new comes here still expressing a faith in God and being lambasted for it (unless of course they are trolling). I don't see it happen often but occasionally it does. As my username denotes, that is how I felt when I discovered TTATT. Having my faith in God challenged at the outset would have been something I couldn't have handled at the time. It's a long slow process for many to challenge dearly held beliefs for so long. It's important to be as welcoming as possible to newcomers and not bombard them with atheism at the outset.

  - this guy used to be madly in love with me but i didn't see him as anything more than a friend.

  You could tell him that after 3 years you weren't expecting to hear from him. You hope he is well and you remember him with fondness (as a friend). Say that you know Jehovah has forgiven you (if indeed you did anything that needed forgiveness) and you are very happy in the place you now find yourself. You appreciate his concern but you won't be coming back, you have made a new life for yourself and being a Jehovah's Witness is no longer a part of it. Wish him well in his life and say goodbye.

  i thought this would be a good time to pose some questions based on the series so far.. if creationism is true these should be easy.

  answers that don't involve copy-paste would be really interesting to read.. ... .

  1. since some proteins can be assembled in more ways than there are atoms in the universe why do the sequences of amino acids and bases vary between species in exactly the way evolution predicts?

  Ok Cofty, I'm going to bite the bullet. LOL

  I'm not going to answer your questions one by one because I'm not clever enough but the evidence is clearly there for evolution. I still believe though in an ultimate creator at the start of it all. Basically I believe he set the ball rolling and then let nature take its course. I'm not expecting anyone else to concur, that's just my own personal take on it.

  i read alot of mythologies and enjoy it.

  As a JW child I always loved to read mythologies, especially the Roman and Greek. I also used to love fairy stories. (My mum never knew, I just picked them up from the library). Guess I used to read the bible the same way. To me the stories in the bible seemed the same. Yet I used to believe they were all true, that the mythological stories were something to do with pre-flood times. I think maybe some stories were based on real events but exaggerated until they became unreal and more to do with someone's imagination like a sci-fi story. Whatever they are, they're fun to read.

  this is a small part of the southern side of an 18th century garden wall.

  my house is just outside the north-east corner.. it is impossible to look at this picture and not notice that this section didn't start life as a garden wall.

  we can clearly see the remains of a derelict house that has been incorporated into the garden.

  It's an incredibly fascinating subject and Cofty I think you've done an amazing job putting it all together in bite size pieces to help ones like me understand what it's all about!

  I've always enjoyed nature programmes on TV, of all kinds, from David Attenborough's numerous series to Springwatch etc. Life and nature is simply incredible and I think creationists and evolutionists can all agree on that one! :)

  I don't usually post on these type of threads for fear of being vilified. even though I find them very interesting and well worth reading and appreciate very much the effort gone into writing them.

  However I have to say this, when I see a 6 on a brick i know that some time in the past someone with intelligence has put it there. I see the same thing with DNA. To me it is like a computer software programme. Instead of 0s and 1s, it's ACGT. Simplistic I know but also complex when it's all put together. I'm not refuting evolution, I can see the arguements for it but I can also see intelligence behind it as I can in the number 6 on the brick and the binary code in computer software.

  That's just my own personal take on it.

  ok so a car pulls up to the house and 3 eldurrs from my dads congo come up.

  they come in and have thee nerve to ask me to step out so they can speak to pops!!!!

  this is the good part.....pops says...and i quote " whatever needs to be said..can be said in front of my son".
