Band On the Run.. you say that the 'British' were boring.. well, I have to say it's only us English that have no national costume as such (unless you count Morris dancers and Pearly Kings and Queens!) and yes.. we are totally boring... the Welsh, Irish and Scottish all have great ones.. :/

That's a really interesting piece cantleave.. thanks for sharing. :) I found the bit about human morality particulary intriguing. I think the worst thing about religion is that it's adherents in their belief of a God feel they are superior to others and impose their own morality on to them. This creates that suffocating feeling of being chained and imprisoned. (Although I still believe in God I think religion is very damaging). For an atheist I would imagine there is a feeling of freedom from this bondage.

My really long introduction...
by Madge inokay, so i am new to the site, but i have been following ur threads for awhile now, and i am finding great comfort in them!
no, i am not a witness and i have never been, and never will be!
i did however, date a witness for about three years.. it was our typical 357th biweekly 'man hating' girls night out, and meeting mr. right was the last thing on my mind!

Madge, you sound like a wonderful, caring young woman and he would be a fool to choose his religion over you. I would definitely get him to read Crises of Conscience by Ray Franz. If you can buy it for him and ask him to read it. Believe me for any JW who has a few doubts this is like opening Pandora's Box.. or like Dorothy discovering the Wizard of Oz is just a little old man. I had a few doubts but never believed this book would make much difference.. oh boy! Was I wrong! If he doesn't have a major mind overhaul after reading this then he is too stuck fast and irremovable. If he says he doesn't want to read it say that the brother in the book used to be a member of the Governing Body for 10 years and tells you everything that goes on behind closed doors. It will peak his curiosity. Then tell him the brother although he was disfellowshipped that it wasn't for anything wrong (including 'apostasy'). He was disfellowshipped on a technicality (eating a meal with someone who had disasocciated himself from the religion). This might make him more comfortable about reading it. Once he has you can guage the effect it has had on him, most JWs who read this book are seriously affected by it. Hope it works!!

I still feel the same, now with uncertainty
by I Want to Believe inso i bought a "first bible" for my 2 year old.
it has about a dozen hard pages so they can't be torn, has colorful illustrations and touches on the basic stories of noah, david, jesus, etc.
but without the wtb&ts spin (or graphic depictions of the wicked drowning, etc.).

I understand completely how you feel... I'm a born-in but a generation on from you. It is quite unsettling to say the least! It's hard to adjust and yes.. if you don't want to cause trouble for yourself you have to keep biting your tongue!
I've found the website jwstruggle.com to be a huge help too for active JWs who are just waking up to the realities and who don't know what to do next.

I can remember an international convention in 1969 when I was a child and was enthralled at all the national costumes.. from all over Europe, India, Africa, Japan.. and yes even Wales!! ;)

Comments from a real JW about the killing of apostates watchtower. You will be shocked..
by Hairyhegoat inthis is a very good find from another jw only web site i have access to... hey i just found this on a link of my mom's that she is "friends" with, yes, still a jw...anyway, i had to copy/paste it so you could all see, thought it was a bit hilarious to see how they blatantly speak of keeping info from "outsiders.
" i did not copy the name of the person since that is not my point and i am not that disrespectful, but i did copy their comment...they were discussing the wt about killing all apostates and someone that was studying asked a question as to whether they all thought that was right or not, so here it is..............."james... although its a great article and very encouraging, as apostates do deserve to be murdered, it may not be such a good idea to reveal it our friend zeek at this moment.
he may find it a tad over the top.

Sounds to me like it's someone in 'stealth' mode... his language is so loaded it might actually make some JWs come to their senses.

Sloppy Scholarship and 3rd Rate Love (3/1 WT)
by metatron inthis watchtower is supposed to help people identify true christianity, relative to their cult standards (march 1, 2012).
of course, they use the name 'jehovah' as a club to fend off other claimants - why does it not surprize me that they self reference this silliness by quoting the new world translation and its wrongful insertion of 'jehovah' in romans 10: 13?
no logic here..... and for proof that christians used the name, they offer an unreferenced quote from jewish sources in regard to burning christian books.

Where I think everything goes wrong is where they teach that the organisation as a whole shows more love than any other religious organisation as a whole. But when Jesus was on earth he condemned religious organisation. he showed that true christianity is and individual thing. Each person shows whether he is a true Christian. Organisation as a whole cannot be 'true' because it is also full of hypocrites amongst genuine followers. hence all his parables of 'wheat and weeds' 'sheep and goats'. They just cannot see there are just as many hypocrites amogst the WT organisation as any other organisation.
As for Romans 10:23, it is a classic for trinitarians to use to show that Jesus is God and that's why in the NWT they have changes LORD for Jehovah. It seems to me that Paul was definitley applying this scripture to Jesus even though he was quoting OT verses. It doesn't really matter whose name we actually call on because doesn't Jesus name mean 'Jehovah is salvation' anyway?

How many people on here have low self-esteem?
by Chemical Emotions ini do, so i was just curious.. i know the org tends to attract/cause/contribute to people having low self-esteem, so i figure a lot of people must have it as bad or worse than me..

I don't have low self esteem but my daughter-in-law does terribly. She's always putting herself down and no amount of telling her how lovely she is, what a good mum she is, how clever she is etc has any effect on it. It's such a shame because I know she'd blossom if she accepted herself for what she really is, a lovely, intelligent, caring young woman.
