I have always loved heavy metal music (thrash metal to be more specific). Since heavy metal is usually associated with satan and occult themes many Christians and JWs in particular stray away from it. In my teenagehood I was listened to it obsessively until I started studying and got baptized at age 18 and I started listening to other genres. But I recently started coming back to this type of music and I've forgotten how much I loved it and how happy it makes me feel.
I wanna see I have any other heavy metal fans or people's opinion of it. I've got Pantera playing right now :)

Have you had a crisis of concience?
by new hope and happiness inmy little boy has decided he wants to be a vegetarian and has been for over a year now.
i fully accepted and supported this.. my view however is no matter what you eat or how you eat it ....beings will die for you to eat.. i have noticed where we live we have the terms " free range" and " ecological".
if affordable i am sure most peoples preferrd option for their own health and the conditions of the animals.. i would say everyone has the right to eat what they want within reason.

McDonalds gave me food poisoning once and I never went back. I guess that counts.

I remember when I first started studying I had to force myself to read those 5 chapters a day. It was easier when I had a new album that I wanted to listen to. I'd put it on and read. But the old testament pissed me off the most. I remember thinking about how every single chapter is the Isaelites being stupid or measurements. Information that was practically useless.

Would you go to church?
by Coded Logic ini have an unspoken rule that if someone ever invites me to a church - that i haven't been to before - i will go.
even though i'm an atheist i'm still interested in the experiance.
just like i'm not into basketball but i would like to go to a game sometime to feel the energy of the crowd.. growing up as a jw i've never set foot in another church.

I grew up Catholic so I've been there. The atmosphere is much more relaxed in the church unlike the Kingdom Hall. I liked going to church as a child. And as a teenager it was a nice place to just go when you had things on your mind and wanted to pray but you didn't want to be alone. I started studying at age 16 when I was craving more information. After I left, I went to a church my friend invited me to. Lots of singing and music, much different from the previous two.

What is the best advise you have ever been given?
by new hope and happiness inawhile a go i was uptight about a matter i can't remember now and my friend said to me " give the other side the victory".
a while ago my little boy was getting uptight and argumentative with his mum i asked him " to let it go" in effect i suppose " giving the other side the victory".
anyway i am sure our life exsperiences have allowed us both receive and give good advice.

An important message from a PRACTICING Jehovah's witness
by Sparks inhi, i am also a practicing jehovah's witness and very proud of it,to say the very-very least..!
i am a middle-aged man with many decades of being a witness of jehovah god in england.. this important letter is personally to you, just as many of the bible's 88 letters are to be taken personal by you the reader.
i am writing to you to urge you to take stock of your life, think what your future holds for you.

Even if the organization is correct, I'd rather spend my time being non-existent. The same way most of you JW's say you would follow the organization even if there was no Jehovah.

A brother in my congregation actually brought that up. He thinks the governing body are afraid of the backlash.

How many did you, personally, entrap in the Borg ?
by Phizzy inin my nearly 60 years in the religion, although i "studied" with a good number, i cannot think of any who could lay the blame at my door for being in the religion today.. one lad possibly might, i studied with him briefly as he was trying to get off drugs, he then moved away, and then married a "sister" a few years later, and is still in, but i doubt he would blame me, i hope not.. of the others i studied with none are still in, the last i heard of one of them, a weirdo kid, now weirdo man, was when he was arrested for "flashing" in a local spot frquented by doggers etc.
i guess i was a useless "tutor".
as it happens, that is one of the things i am proud to be a failure at, getting people to join a cult.. i always tried to not do proper r.v's, and never suggested a "study" to anyone, but some, like weirdo, were shoved my way by elders who didn't want the work themselves.. how many are you guilty of getting in to the cult ?.

Thankfully none. I didn't have much luck in the ministry. I placed magazines and such but no bible studies. I remember when I started finding out the TTATT, I got a bible study ironically. I couldn't tell if it was a sign from Jehovah or a coincidence. But I only studied with him once before feeling guilty over trying to recruit someone while I was doubting. He moved somewhere else soon after. I don't regret it at all.

You handled it well especially with the mention of the pagan origins of the days of the week and month. But I think if he wants to tie the noose and kick the chair, let him. When the time comes when he doubts the organization, he'll think back to the time it made him lose his job and it'll further his resolve to leave.

Will the WT get a twitter account?
by bohm inwith the recent success of the website which really seem to be working beyond at least my expectations, will the wt get a twitter account in the near(ish) future?.
those who guess right win the bragging rights.
my guess is no since twitter invite to much discussion, however they will eventually jump on a popular twitter-like social media service when one arise that is more easily controlled..
