Why aren't the JDubs receiving more bad publicity concerning the abuse cover-ups?
by Sour Grapes ini know that the jdubs think that they are the center of the universe and in actuality, no one except ex-jdubs gives a rats ass about these religious crazies.
my question is i read that as a percentage of pedophiles per members, that the percentage is larger in the watchtower company than in the catholic church.
i would think that would catch someones attention in the media and make a good story.. what really pisses me off is the watchtower cult is gloating about all of the negative press the catholics are receiving concerning pedophiles not even knowing that the jdubs have thousands of sexual abuse cases that have been covered over.

Facial Hair
by new boy insince i have been out for seventeen years what is the currant society policy concerning beards and mustaches.. in the sixties and seventies facial hair was forbidden at bethel if you white.
if you were black you could have mustache but no beards.
so obviously you could not be elder or pioneer if you had a beard.. any updates?

I know of a brother in Virginia that gave public Sunday talks with a beard this year (2018)
i have this first hand from 2 different people
His elders would call the congregation he was visiting to speak to give them a heads up in case they had an issue with it

Without god what is the basis of morality?
by OneEyedJoe ini'm sure most here who've questioned or left behind their belief in god have encountered this question - without god, what basis can there be for morality?
my exwife, when i admitted that i was an atheist, once asked me "if you don't believe in god, what's to stop you from going out and raping and murdering?
" previously, whenever i got this objection, i would tend to turn it around on the other person with a response along the lines of "if fear of god is the only thing that stops you from murdering, that makes me rather nervous to be around you.

Invited to a talk: What to do?
by Fred Franztone inmy sister texted me last night with an invitation to watch our dad give his first ever public talk.
i don't live particularly near to my family, but i'm not too far from them to make the journey, and i am on good terms with them, having never been baptised and so not disfellowshipped; they don't shun me and likely wouldn't even if i were disfellowshipped, it's not in their character.. i haven't been inside a kingdom hall since 2006, and i would like to keep it that way; i only intend to step inside one again in the event of a family wedding or funeral service.
i don't want to be rude to my sister, ignoring the text isn't an option, so i need a diplomatic way of declining her invitation.. i've considered saying that i'm busy, but this leaves things open for her to ask again in the future, and i'd rather she got the message that i'm not interested, without me having to say so in an explicit way.. any suggestions from those who have been in a similar situation?.

it's been about 10 years since i was df'd.. just recently i started to see a therapist and i am trying to get across the depth of the effects of growing up a witness.

I’ve really been around the block with this religion and am very self aware in my midlife
JW or not, it’s usually the parents that screw up the kids. Yes the religion plays a part obviously, but non-JW parents screw kids up too
no doubt the isolation experienced as a jw kid in school can have a lasting affect on ones self esteem.
but as an adult I see so many non-jw adults with all kinds of similar problems and life struggles.
No matter how we were raised, we have to find our own purpose in life whether or not it aligns with that of our family jw or not. Hopefully your therapist helps you start a new journey instead of rehashing a previous one

Elders aren’t police. They deal with the congregation. The PARENTS should go to the police.
Why is this so difficult to understand?
If a normal person (non-jw) has an abuse allegation do they expect their minister to tell the police for them? NO, the minister/priest deals with the congregation and the parents call the cops.
The problem was never the two witness rule, it’s that parents were advised not to go to the police (Parents are no longer told this, at least that’s the letter I heard read in my cong a few years ago) and subsequent shunning if they do
Even if a pedo was DFd w/o two witnesses they’re still walking free if the parents don’t tell the police.
Why would a parent take the advice of some random elder in a criminal matter? Elders had no business telling parents not to tell police and parents had no business asking the elders in the first place.

Historically the US is due for an economic contraction 2018-2020
i am not an economist but when watching economists debate the current US condition everything happening with the dollar, interest rates, taxes, spending, trade, etc. this is all old hat pre-contraction stuff
the biggest companies in the market are all tech companies, HUGE worth BILLIONS, but the manufacturing sectirs are starting to show weakening, these huge growth tech companies are propping up the market to appear stronger than it really is at its core

we used to hate the internet now we LOVE the internet
We used to read BOOKS and get new books at assemblies and have book studies at peoples houses and have 3 meetings a week!
How can you explain what’s changed when nothing is left of what hasn’t?
