What's the JW reaction to new 16 page mags????
by diamondiiz inif you've been to the meeting when the letter was read, what was jw reaction????
just curious if it was just another sign that the end is nearer or did any wake up for a second to realize the corporation is downsizing due to costs..

this is a good distraction for the rank and file. now the talks will shift to proper use of the internet and not just all-out demonizing of it.
I wonder though how many of the 400,000 daily hits are actually just WBTS domains logging into the sight to perform organizational processes? we all know how manipulated statistics like these are

"Look if you can't read this measly little portion of 'spiritual food' then you really are a pathetic little slacker!" = MORE GUILT!
AND if you can't go to 2 measley meetings a week instead of 3 AND if you can't aux pioneer at 50 hours per month instead of 60 AND you can't read 16 pages of Awake per month instead of the old-old 64 pages per month AND you can't read 16 pages per month of Watchtower instead of the old-old 64 per month AND you can't get to all 3 days of the District Convention instead of the old 8 days... well! You MUST be a horrible person! after all, you have it so easy!!!!

Later someone may notice the mags are thinner
the brother giving our talk kept saying how this is not the Org shrinking back, that this is them being progressive and moving ahead. He even repeated that twice in the prayer and stumbled over his words. It was quite amusing.
Those Ive talked to were initially confused but when you tell them its a cost saving measure they usually say "oh, that makes sense". Funny how the letter never directly stated that as an issue, it was more about the positives of the website, blah blah blah.
Why can't the WTS just say "in an effort to save money, we are reducing the size of the magazines which just end up in the bin without being read anyway. Also, of the 400,000 hits on our website everyday, 357,000 is from our own worldwide bethel staff and the rest are from apostates pasting our bullshit on anti-cult forums."
This would have been much less confusing.

So what do your Jehovah's Witness friends and loved ones think of the generation teaching?
by garyneal inafter the little skit at the last assembly where one brother was asking another for understanding about the generation teaching i thought, "wow, these people will believe anything the watchtower tells them.
" the 'more mature brother' practically said verbatim everything the watchtower said as his explanation.
evidently, this is one of the sources of the increased 'murmuring' that the talked warned against.. so, has anyone brought this up to their witness friends and/or family?

So what the CO coulda/shoulda/woulda said is probably something more like,
"Brothers and sisters, let me be perfectly clear on this vitally important point: We are now living in the time of the second group of anointed Christians--the ones who will see the start of the great tribulation, and--whose lives overlapped with the first group of anointed ones that were alive when the sign of Jesus' invisible presence became evident in 1914."
exactly.
even my friend (who totally worships the GB eventhough 2 years ago he literally asked me "what generation? what are you talking about?") said that his CO's statement could mean the new system TM could be yet 50 years away.
The irony of this is that the CO was trying to minimize thinking that the end could now be stretched far into the future, yet even the blindest dubbie I know saw through it. Yet he still said "the new system is probably only 50 years away at most"
:P
Coincidentally yesterdays watchtower stressed the "danger" of thinking too much. I don't think they need to worry about that too much is this guy's case

"if you just look at it, all you've done is stretch the generation of 1914 from 80 years to 160 years."
It can be stretched even longer than that if they want!
I heard recently from a friend that a CO was assuring congregations that WE are in the second of 2 overlapping generations. My friend was so pumped up about it, as if he had the "scoop" on it and we could be so happy to know it... :P

1-Won't discuss it, example: My mom simply won't discuss things she doesn't "get". If you bring it up, you can actually see her get physically uncomfortable and nervously change the subject; she doesn't like being shown she, or they, are wrong. My mom is an intelligent person, so how she can still hold onto their beliefs is baffling.
2-Too mentally lazy/Ignorant, example: My sister, whom I love dearly, and her husband will discuss this but they can only talk about what the borg has defined for them, if you try to get “deep” you can see the bulb dim and the spacey glaze start in their eyes. To them digging deeper and getting educated is too hard, so they are perfectly happy lazily living in ignorant bliss
this could be my life.
my mother is exact same way. My sister too.
To them, intelligence is parroting what the CO said in his talk to explain away the generation, not to actually understand it. Most JW's are like this. Blissfully ignorant. It's the only way for them to actually think they beleive what the WTS teaches. The fact of the matter is JW's don't have beliefs, they just have rules and routines. That's why they have no depth when you grill them, they have no interest in understanding anything, just how to dismiss it so they can file it away with all the other dissonance in their brains.
your grandmother may be a sweetheart but to her the WTS isn't about understading the bible, it's her fuzzy warm blanket. If she asks real questions it just takes some of the fuzz away. at 81 it may be all she has left.

Believe it or not, I got this response from an experienced elder: "What change? There was no change. Just an explanation on what is meant by the word generation. The doctrine is still the same as it's always been."
well of course, the generation is still the same - the generation will not pass away till all these things occur. Just now its overlapping generations with their start in 1914 instead of the generation of 1914 that witnessed 1914. what are you.. stupid?
(I hope you sense my sarcasm in the above)the really stupid part is that to a JW the above seems so simple and to the point. It actually makes the whole pile of generation shit look credible. Yet, if you just look at it, all you've done is stretch the generation of 1914 from 80 years to 160 years.
If any other dooms day religion did that the JW's would be all over them.... but they do it and the R&F praise Jah for new light.
A question I recently pondered is: "why did the WTS make the generation = the 144,000 for 18 months to only then change it to overalapping generations of 1914? Well, one explanation could be that it disconnected the obvious intent from focus.
That is, if the WTS had just said: "uhm.... so the generatin of 1914 is all dead so Jehovah must have meant 2 generations so now you must believe that Jesus meant "this generation, and it's subsequent, contemporary generation, will not pass away..."
it would have been pretty obvious that the oracle Freddy Franz had fucked up and now the WTS was band-aiding a failed prophecy.
By changing it to the 144k, and THEN back to the generation of 1914 plus the overlapping generation it seems to have softened the blow a bit. I would say escept for some murmuring, it worked perfectly.
I would love to meet the psychologists they consult on how to anticipate the response of the indoctrinated to change. They must have some great stories to tell -

"Because I do not like the idea of dying, being buried under rocks, being drowned, or being killed by lava."
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"
(Matthew 5.43-45 ESV)why should we love our enemies is god is going to kill us with rocks, lava, flood waters (and birds) for missing some JW meetings that repeat the same unscriptural fear mongering week after week? God is a dick.

Blonde moment
in that video he said that Rutherford told German JW's to march with placards against socialism. Is this accurate? Does anyone have a reference for that?
No matter how one would spin a protest like that, it is pure politics. Not only would this be leading JW's to the slaughter, it would also be breaking neutrality which is ironic since JW's were persected BECAUSE they were neutral
