JW's and cigars (research thread)

i feel like i have never had a satisfactory answer on this.. my experience has been that there has never been a solid stance by the wts on cigars.. i do not have the cd-rom installed right now but for a long time i could not find a definitve statement against cigar smoking.

i did find an article from a few years back that commented it gave you stained teeth and bad breath, but i can hardly see how these are df'ing offenses.

this would rule coffee for sure and a whole host of foods that do this also.. does anyone have the cd-rom installed and are able to dig up some info?

JW Standup Comedy Routine

so i have been doing stand up and i want to talk about being a jw in my act.

im trying to write a few rants to talk about.

so far i have beards, holidays, the oddities of the memorial, childhood baptism vs marriage.

- new system 24/7 fruit picking in dresses below the knee

- young people looking up the YPA chapter on masturbation, only to then masturbate to the thought of the young sisters in those pictures masturbating

- gas money in service. you give $5 one week, then they give you $2 back the next week :P

- always getting a "G" for your talk no matter how lousy you actually did

- being an openly gay JW that does not act upon his "gayness" and condemns his "imperfection" waiting for the new system for Jehovah to make him straight. But for now, he's in the change room at the hockey rink with all the other brothers!! do we let him do the microphones? should he give the #4 talk on masturbation?

they just left.

we had a nice "encouraging" chat about my inactivity.

they went through the usual guilt routine, that didnt seem to work so they turned to fear.

When he tried to say that not going in service made me blood guilty I said; "thats a bit of a stretch, dont you think?"

i expect to hear this. not a bad response I must say., I will think about this one today.

I expect my wife to cry. I hate that b/c I can dismiss away the elders but if I disregard my wifes feelings that makes me a jerk. I just don't want my wife to beg the elders for all kinds of "help" and then my job gets even harder to avoid these guys

i'm a new member & i'd like to say hi to everyone, intoducing myself.. i am a 3rd generation born-in at mid 50's & an active elder.. english is not my mother language, so pls ignore any grammatical errors.

i live in a small country in europe.. i'd like to thank you for all information posted.

some of them have rally helped me to understand and examine again my beliefs.. last new light concerning f&ds=gb has verified the idea that they are popes in the position op pope.. i still believe in god & in his son jesus christ but not in the gb..

all of this is code for: one who is not ready to really study and accept how the leadership of jehovah's witnesses use the bible to their own self serving means.

but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.

What are married women called who attend pioneer school?

many many many years ago i attended the pioneer and have just recalled that the married sisters were listed on paper as mr jane doe (mrs) or something peculiar like that.. .

is that custom still followed?.

it will be interesting in a generation or two when both a husband and wife with hyphonated names will then hyphonate their already hyphonated names for these ridiculous surnames 4+ names long.

Southpark did a great skit on this in the hygrogen car episode.

Husband = Smith, wife=Parker which becomes Smith-Parker

Husband = Jones, wife=Wilson which becomes Jones-Wilson

So then what? their kids marry and become Smith-Parker-Jones-Wilson? Its not about ownership anymore, its about having a family name. I'd rather see the husband take the wifes last name than to hyphonate.

it would be very easy for a JW to counter that the books used for judging were the former "books" (plural) highlited in yellow, and that the book (singular) is the "new" book, or a book with yet unknown contents. After all, they were judged by the "books", not by the "book" (singular).

this type of semantics is so observable in WT theology. I think of "Time, times and half a time"

They can always weasel their way in and out of anything with baseless false logic.

On another note, I am sad to see that Oompa was the last poster on this thread before me. I miss my buggy-eyed brother....

Within 24 hours of publishing, an interested party can retrieve a full commentary on the spiritual vomit that the WT posted and the commentary ends up being more exciting than the article.

I have to wonder if this was a contributing reason for the reduction in pages/larger margins/larger font/reduction in substance (meat). Their writers have to feel like they're in a corner.

I have been inactive for 4 years, no service, no comments. (one exception - conductor once asked what big change ocurred in 1995. Needless to say I was the ONLY one in the audience that knew it was the dumping of generation 1914, so of course I commented. How ironic)

Anyhow, other than one newbie elder that just moved into my KH, no one has ever asked me why I am inactive or why I don't comment and I am still included in social gatherings. Why after 4 years no one has asked? BECAUSE NO ONE CARES

Or at least it seems to be that way.
