the internet, does it really matter??

hi, i have been following some of the discussions about the internet and jw.

some people think that it seems to make a big difference, that it will seriously reduce wts ranks because people get access to all sorts of information and because they can get in contact with people who maybe have the same doubts and thoughts as themselves.. but how big a difference do you think that the net is making?

how many people do you think have withdrawns from jw because of infomation or contact achieved over the net?.

the internet helped me to realize the truth about the jws. i posted this in another thread, thought it applied here as well:

i too thought right after i left that the jws might have the truth but i couldn't live up to the standards so i might as well have fun while i'm still alive and then just be dead after armageddon. then about 3 or 4 yrs ago, i discovered the truth about the "truth" and wooweee! it was great realizing i had made the right decision at the time. thank the gods for the internet and for sites like freeminds.org, observer.org and all along the watchtower. those were some of the first sites i ever visited. a big THANK YOU to everyone out there for your time and effort in exposing the wts for the cult that it is.

the jws have to be searching for some answers and hopefully because of the nature of the internet, they will feel more comfortable going to forbidden websites. but i think where the internet has a huge impact is on the door to door work/converts. anyone with a pc/internet connection and with a brain, (i would hope) after being contacted by jws in their preaching work, will run to their pcs and type in "jehovah's witnesses" and viola! instant info!

Were you afraid that the JW's were right?

many posters have said that initially they had doubts and then cane to the internet to check things out.

were any of you afraid that maybe you would find that the org was the truth ?.

i was worried about that.

when my da was announced i did not go to the meeting. i think i went out partying with my "worldly" friends, hehehe

seriously, i was 17 and although i was happy with my decision, i just could not face all those at the KH i had grown up with. i could not face the disappointed looks i knew would be on their faces. my friend was their that night, said there were some tears. i guess my brother was crying too, had to leave the main area...that broke my heart. i never wanted to hurt my family. it's too bad he hasn't realized (9 years later!!) that there is no need to shun me, that his reasons for shunning me are so absurd. that he is following the words of a bunch of dumbasses in brooklyn.

anyway, whether one attends or not has to be your decision, depends on the circumstances, i think.

well, since i'm here, i guess i'll say a bit about dubya too...

i didn't vote for him and i didn't vote for gore either. i voted nader. i hope in 2004 we can elect a better prez but i'm not holding my breath. i'm happy i was born here, and i love my home state. but i would never think of holding it over someone's head that i'm better than them because i just so happened to be born to parents who live here.

well okay, i'll shut up now don't have really anything to add to this discussion. just wanted to say my little piece...don't hate me cuz of that dumbass dubya residing at 1600 pennslyvania ave!

hawk, actually, you have to change the email response option yourself...edit one of your posts, or when you post a new one to this thread, look for the three options right above the submit or post button. the third option "Check here to be notified by email whenever anyone replies to this topic" make sure there is NOT a check mark there and the emails will stop! but you may have to edit every response you made on this thread..not sure but i'd double check..

Body Piercing

i just had my navel pierced yesterday.

can i just say ow?!!

the place i chose to have it done was a little on the scary side, clean but weird!

jan, you busted me, hehe. yes, the arm band is only half an armband, the pain was pretty intense. and even though i like a bit of pain (hehe tina, you don't sound wierd! i'm right there with ya on that whole "rush" thing), it was just too much.

same thing happened with the nipple piercing...chickened out on getting the right one done. if anything brushed against my nipple for weeks after the piercing, let me tell you.....intense, shooting pain! hey wait, maybe it wasn't soo bad hah! kidding..never again...nope.

oh and jan, as far the tongue piercing....maybe i will surprise you in the near future

i've had three piercings started with the belly button, then my tongue and ended up with a nipple ring in my left nipple belly button and tongue didn't hurt much but nipple..ooh yeah, that was a big OUCH!!! i did end up removing all of the piercings eventually. but i am thinking about re-piercing my tongue again....

as far as pain between tattoos and piercings, i only had one of my tattoos really hurt and that was my arm band.
